Susan Hayward is one of my favorite 1950s stars, but I’ve never been able to sit through this one. On the other hand, I love I’ll Cry Tomorrow and will watch it every so often.

Susan Hayward. Fabulous. She made the best of everything she did. Strong willed lady.

As much as I admired Susan Hayward, the line, “The Susan Hayward of it all,” occurred to me today.

You were not alone. I don't think I ever heard the name Jane Froman. What a story. You can bet if if done now, the addiction to pain killers would not be shelved. What really struck me in this one is the swapping of seats on the plane---a fateful, chilling shift.

I am a fan of the great talented Susan Hayward till today 2023. Never understad why the Academy skipped Susan the Oscar for her wonderful performance in With A Song In My Heart. She actually deserved three Oscars at least for her roles in many films.

Thank you for the viedo, Fritz. Such an enjoyable feature for this Friday afternoon. I find there's a stylistic connection between Barbara Stanwyck and Susan Hayward. So glad she is one actress that persevered until she got her reward. She won it for Barbara as well.

Susan Hayward should be remembered als one of the greatest hollywood stars ever. She was incredibly beautiful and an incredible actress...A unique feat in Hollywood's gloden age. She was also a major box office star from the late 1940's to the late 1960's....I disagree with you here...I find Hayward's performance in "With a song in my heart" moving and quite spectacular...Her energy...smiles...despairs touched me deeply during the movie.She was a unique star actress....and that face and superb natural red hair...!

As far as the non-singing parts of With A Song In My Heart were concerned, Susan Hayward did an excellent job with the script. Actually the lip-syncing of the songs was not a special feat. Hayward was probably wise to emulate the real Jane Froman singing as much as possible so that gestures and movement were more authentic. Most audiences attended the film to hear Jane Froman 's voice. Watch Susan Hayward in I'll Cry Tomorrow to hear what Susan Hayward's real singing voice was like. Her voice was not bad but definitely not a Jane Froman voice.

Your words on Jane's singing - a bit like dissing a Model T for not keeping up on Interstates. To judge by a norm unimagined at production time!? We must hear Jane with 'historic ears'.
@FritzandtheOscars
@FritzandtheOscars Год назад
I totally agree with that and I think I made it clear that this is only my personal opinion here; I see that she is obviously a great singer but just not for my personal taste :)
@larkpraise

I respectfully disagree with your analysis. Hayward was magnificent in this movie and made the movie superb! I found the movie inspiring and edifying in every way but mostly because of Hayward’s outstanding performance. While no one could beat Shirley Booth in 1952 Hayward earned and deserved her Oscar Nomination and I would give 2nd place to her.
@FritzandtheOscars

Acting is totally subjective and of course everyone has different opinions on it. I'm happy that you reacted so positively to her work. It would be very boring if we all had the same opinion! :)

I thought she made a fine effort with the musical numbers, though the singing voice was obviously not hers. I was surprised many years later, however, at how clunky she was "singing" in Valley of the Dolls.
