As a 16 year old who worked in a hotel in 1967.Leeds u/k . Pageboy had to go to her room to collect a letter for posting . Wow, a very attractive woman fell in love . Still think about her to this day . 🎉
Susan's cover of this one is beautiful!!!! This is how a REAL singer does Pop!!! Marcie Blane's original pales in comparison to this. Marcie's rendition charted to #3 here in 1962. Ironically, Susan's cover went to #3 in the UK. Both versions were released in 1962, months apart. Marcie did it first.
Marci Blane made this a hit in the USA. This is the first time I’ve heard this version. She seems a bit old to be singing a teenage bopper song. BTW it always bothered me that tge grammar is wrong. It should be "if I were Bobby's girl."
When people ask of me What would you like to be Now that you're not a kid any more? (You're not a kid anymore) I know just what to say I answer right away There's just one thing I've been wishing for I wanna be Bobby's girl I wanna be Bobby's girl That's the most important thing to me And if I was Bobby's girl If I was Bobby's girl What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be Each night I sit at home Hoping that he will phone But I know Bobby has someone else (You're not a kid anymore) Still in my heart I pray There soon will come a day When I will have him all to myself I wanna be Bobby's girl I wanna be Bobby's girl That's the most important thing to me And if I was Bobby's girl If I was Bobby's girl What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be I wanna be Bobby's girl I wanna be Bobby's girl I wanna be Bobby's girl Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Gary Klein / Henry Hoffman
The audio is the original recording but it does not go with the video which featured an orchestra and Susan singing live, I think in London. The video, while cleaned up nice, is spliced since Susan ad-libbed some extra words in this great performance. Here's the real audio. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-84D9jD1_qq0.html
I'm so used to the other version that this seems very forced where as the other one is song by a teenage girl and you hear it in her voice . That childish teenage innocence of the time...i s
