NEVER thought I'd have to say someone put more heart, soul and earth into this gem than my ღ blues girl Bonnie. First time I heard this, I'd bought "just won't burn' at a thrift store, stuck it in the cd player on drive home. listening to this cut, I had to drive twice more (around) the long way home! just to hear it two times more. which is baaaad - coz then she's in your head. all night. IF there's a "heaven", I'm hoping Jacksonville, in Susan and Derek's back yard ...
beautiful version of my favorite Maywood songwriter's best song. That playful stuff she does at the ends of her lines just takes it further on. Such an amazing singer
ღ'd Bonnie (thru good and not) since I heard "Sweet Forgiveness" come thru my FM radio, very late at night, as a teenager. Those 3 minutes transported me. I sought out everything she did before-and after. that said: FIND this on ST's "Just Won't Burn" cd - put it on LOUD. ALONE. her voice seems to turn this song inside out, then back again--leaving you wonderin' - how does she DO that? As often as I will try before I die, I know I won't ever 'figure it out' ~ that's the magic. ヅ Good hunting!
Great rendition of one of Prine's best, love the Hammond...but Bonnie's version is still the best. Bonnie's version makes this 33 year old man feel like I'm a 60 year old house wife trapped in a one room farm cottage somewhere in rural America in 1932 living a life filled with regret and reflecting on how my life has somehow passed me by and wishing I was anywhere but there. That is the magic of Prine I guess. He just touches your god damn soul like few musicians ever could.
Of the 130,127 views since posted, I must account for a few thousand of them. Many days I crank it up first thing in the morning to get the day going. Perfect mix of vocal, Hammond, WICKED fiddle, drums and of course Susan - all amazing. Thanks for posting!
Love the song to begin with, and the touch of Sugaree makes it just a little more awesome. She also does this with Derek Trucks Band backing her and it is BLISTERING.
Wow! Susan Tedeschi takes two classics, one by John Prine and one by Robert Hunter, and melds them into one terrific song, sang as always by an amazing vocalist, another graduate of the renowned Berklee College of Music..
I got the great privelege to watch Susan Tedeschi play with Derek Trucks at the Mile High Music Festival this summer; I'd never seen her before and was just blown away by her voice, and her stage presence.
I heard this song (Performed by Susan) for the first time when I was 9 years old at Sunbanks Blues Festival before she was famous. I've loved it ever since. I met her then and my mom talked to ehr too. That was 10 years ago now haha.
Just discovered ST this week how could I have missed her all this time. Went right out and bought a greatest hits CD cause Just Won't Burn is on LP. I am in love!!! This is the real deal not like what I had with those ex-wives!!!
Derek Trucks is one lucky dude!!!! they make a great couple and stir up some amazing emotion when they play. Susan & Derek's son and daughter will likely be incredbily talented musicians.....amazing gene pool.
amazing .....no other word to describe her this song has so much soul and heart in it and she does such a wonderful job with it ....all i can say is thank you
Oh, ya. I totally love them both. I stood about 3 feet in front of Derek when he played The Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole, WY. It was great. I'd love to see them together at some point.
@im4out Good point, exactly what I'm thinking everytime I come across a video that has been removed. I've discovered and rediscovered a lot of good music on RU-vid. A good example is Susan Tedeshi! I'm Dutch and had never heard of her before. Thanks for sharing!
Very hard to argue that. She had allergies last Fri nite at Neighborhood--coughing and apologizing early--conserved slightly and blew away the field coming down the stretch--(to borrow a phrase)--in a sublime performance.
@myhattrick ST is awesome. I first heard Rock me right on the radio about 10 years ago and I feel in love with her too. She is incredibly talented. Did you know that she's married to Derek Trucks...saw them both in concert together and they were amazing. So glad you appreciate this awesomely talented women....
@im4out Just keep putting them up. The money hungries might eventually get the idea! Love Susan saw her in concert At Bele Chere in Asheville NC one year. Can't get enough!
@im4out I'm another who just "discovered" this gem. I was checking in on music from "the kid," Derek Trucks, and stumbled on Susan. I don't have any way to discover artists except through this medium. I'm a gtr. player and have been a fan of the Allman Brothers Band since about 1969-1970 and have read her name in some trade mags but have somehow missed hearing her. Oh, what a wonderful talent. I'm buying 2 of the most recent CDs ASAP. I'm also spreading the word. A new fan, Leo Bacarella
Derek, I hate you dude! Susan is the abolute BOMB! What a voice! I though Raitt could sing Angel from Montgomery, Susan blows her away!! John Prine would be proud! John Prine, simply the best poet of my generation (56 yrs old)!
I used to think music was dying. thats because I was trying to get it off of the radio. All of the REAL talent is on you tube. Main stream media is dead. we dont need them any way. now, if all these good people can just make some money so they can continue writing and performing, every body wins. BUY THEIR ALBUMS GO TO THEIR SHOWS ! radio and tv are the past, this is the future. Susan and Derek are the future, I for one, am THRILLED!
