Such beautiful and humble people. Their character still shines through in their music after all these years. If you haven't seen Tedeschi-Trucks live, you need to do what it takes!
I'd say more subdued.. Played bass for her back in the "just won't burn" days and she was belting it out every night like her hair was on fire! Technique, power and lotsa soul... good times
Kofi looks so young, even younger than Derek. Rest in piece, you’re missed and I think you always will be as musicians of your quality are far too rare. A bit of a sad video now.
The start of what has become one of the best bands in the world ! Saw them twice in Brussels where I live and really looking forward to all the next concerts they will play around here. And they serve the music....they don't take the music to serve their ego : they have soul !!!!!!!!!!!
Your opening statement is TRUTH. I've seen hundreds of bands over the last 50 years; they are fantastic. The beauty is, they serve the greater good: MUSIC.
Wow this is fun to see. This was like the pot stirring the ingredients that would slowly cook and eventually form The Tedeschi Trucks Band into the 12 piece juggernaut they are now. Really wonderful
From day one these two found their Voices started their family between themselves and Music peer family. Still today some of the Best sounds this World has to offer..
This first song puts my soul in a magic place. I feel happy. Just to be able to witness and experience this moment .. I love you Sue T. You're killing it Norwell. Love you forever. My dad says hi 😍
The bare bones of the Tedeschi Trucks Band here a good ten years before they went full time with it.I saw the at a small music festival the first year it happen they had there own bands.she played Saturday night he played Sunday Kofi came out on her set to fix a problem with a keyboard i think it was the Hammond B3 organ and played the rest of the song with the other keyboard player.she said you should just stay it sound better with both of you anyway, and he did.at the end of Derek's set they had her come out and sing the last few songs.that was the best part of the show the small crowd went nuts over it.the next time i saw them It was the Tedeschi Trucks band at Redrocks.
I've yet to see Derek live but I saw Susan live at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 2009. She was awesome. She later signed my CD, gave me a little kiss and posed for photographs. Classy lady!
I can't believe I've never seen this. I love the Tedeschi Trucks band, but I miss DTB it was so pure, and I really miss listening to Kofi, he was an amazing musician.
Amazed and a huge fan forever. When DT growls down that low E string my goosebumps get goosebumps. And what to say about Susan? Wow, just wow.. Thank you! TTB
Thanks for posting this early video. I have been a fan of Susan since her solo career when I went to a live performance. Love how the TTB has evolved. Derek is outstanding. She is a powerhouse vocalist. The band is one of the best.
I have got the impression that they have gained more recognition as a band and musicians the last 3 -4 years than before, and it started among music lovers earlier than among people with less interest in music. Today they have a lot of followers that sets them high the band as a band - Derek as a Guitarist, especially as a slide guitarist, and Susan as the guitar-playing woman with a great voice. Anyhow, we can say that they get a better and better reputation and recognition - and they deserve it.
Caught them on Wednesday in the Bowery. 2001 is the first time I caught him live; figured I'd go back and witness the continuing splendor. Sail on, Kofi. Thanks for posting!
God I love her voice, and the way she uses it. I love Derek's guitar, and his whole manner while playing. These two are so incredibly talented and dedicated. Thanks for posting this footage that I would never have seen -- saw them live in Missoula this summer for the first time..fabulous..
Great to see this early recording and this was also my 23 birthday! This band has gracefully matured over the years to be one of the biggest powerhouses in the industry. Cheers!
Yonrico?? He's alive and well. I saw him with Roosevelt Collier, Corey Glover, and a bunch of other incredible musicians at a Bill Withers tribute Roosevelt put together about 6 months ago or thereabouts at Brooklyn bowl.
I saw this couple back when they were still solo. Derek’s amazing grace makes me cry and smile. It was my grandma’s favorite and final song. Long story.
SO excited to see this pop up on RU-vid. Didn't discover Derek until 2005 and Susan for some years thereafter. GREAT to see this early rendition. They are SO good. Have seen them more than a dozen times and Derek with others, too. I have Derek on my list of 7 greatest LIVING guitarists along with John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Robert Fripp, Glenn Kaiser, Dave Bainbridge and Phil Keaggy. Tedeschi-Trucks band and King Crimson are the best bands touring the world today and for the last few years! :)
Lots of the same band members. And lots of Gospel and jazz. Susan said in an interview that if she could only sing one genre it would be Gospel. She got her start touring with a Gospel Group.
