If this is a front wheel drive car, it can run for a very long time with a disabled rear wheel. The stop would happen if it overheats enough for the car to catch fire or runs out of gas. I still think more direct actions could be used. The Arkansas State Police do it all the time; they are very aggressive in their pursuits, they dont care about the 'under 40' speed, they will setup blocks or partly block intersections, etc. One absolute certainty, I've never seen chases that are hours long. The longer the chase the larger the threat to the public.

17:20 - I was on I-95 between Fort Lauderdale and Miami and this car blew past me "like a bat back into Hell" with a rooster-tail of sparks behind it. This is reminiscent of that event...

49 minutes? and a civilian have to do there jobs? dang embarrassing a professional cops would end the chase less then 10 minutes without any civilian having to help
