Hello There, great interview and it was great to hear his thoughts on Train Travel etc. Cheers Peter :) p.s. It would be nice to see the Copenhagen Sleeper Service, back up and running.
Your Seat 61 web page has helped me with some train journeys, thank you. My partner and I are trying to train more for carbon footprint reduction. However, the last two holidays we had, one to France and one to Denmark had late train connections on our return and stranded us at one point, until I became persistent (but very polite) to get new connections. The Denmark (yep, no overnight anymore) journey home via London, was an expensive way to travel. We spent nights in Germany and Netherlands on the way, which was nice but not usually possible due to finances and time constraints for work. We would definitely like to have sleep trains and more first class, the latter when financially possible.
Great interview, thanks. I enjoy The Man in Seat 61s videos, but I have always wondered why he seems to think high-speed rail is the same as non-high speed rail. High speed rail, the attempt to turn trains into a type of ground-based airplane, is not all that sustainable, unless you only consider carbon emissions. High speed lines use up vast tracts of farmland and green space. They also kill lots of wildlife, especially birds. Train food, even coffee, uses disposable plastic packaging. High speed train travel is also a lot less enjoyable than non-high speed travel. It is getting more and more like plane travel.
@@JanSanono Wow are you ever ignorant. Educate yourself a little bit, then comment again maybe. We have enough “conventional” railways presently, plus highspeed probably consumes more than double the amount of land and supporting infrastructure.
