Amazing, more comparisions like this are needed, in another reply you already recommended the Ferrum stack so I'll save for it despite not having the Susvara's... and probably will never have at that price. Next video a DAC's comparision one please! :)

DACs are tricky as they are very complicated to swap around with 2 cables while in such a test for amps, I usually use a xlr to stereo and level their volume with quick swaps into my DAPs. Also I don't have as many DACs, mainly DAPs.

Great video and amazing new content frequency! I can barely keep up :) I mostly agree with your assessment of MHA200 vs Ferrum Oor. I also find that the MHA200 does depth quite poorly. Music seems to come from a wall of sound, which is a shame considering the layering abilities of the Sus. Details are just average, but yeah it's quite fun to listen to, sounds big and is a beautiful object. My dealer recommends it with for the Sus, with TT2 as a preamp. With regards to the Ferrum stack (Oor + Hypsos), I was VERY impressed with its technical abilities, especially in terms of micro-detail retrieval, but ultimately passed on it as soundstage felt too claustrophic, in particular height, which gave me the feeling of listening to music in a low-ceiling room. I also found the tonality too mellow with the already polite Susvara, and was not a fan of the build quality/feel. Would love to hear your impressions on the Chord TT2 (ideally straight from the rear balanced ouput) and of course from the AMP-23R if you managed to get your hands on one. Keep up the amazing work!
@ZPProductions

Chord tt2 maybe a small chance haha. I have the original TT which I feel can drive most headphones rather competently. The Enleum 23r in the other hand is going to be hard due to the price and that I have no good connection with the distro. But I’ll try haha.

did you ever had the change to test the susvara with the Hifiman serenade or EF600? Do you think they will be driven good with it?

Hmm I didn’t use the susvara on either before. But I compared the serenade using the stealth with amps like burson before. At that point, I think burson was better

I thought about Hugo tt at the start which I have at hand but it was troublesome to change the xlr cable connection behind all the amps

@@ZPProductions how did the enleum compare to the holo bliss?
@ZPProductions
@ZPProductions 9 месяцев назад
@@TheColorization I tried Holo bliss sometime back. I will say the Enleum definitely in-line in terms of my comparison with like ferrum in that the Enleum has better power/control and bass. Only thing I can’t remember is the soundstage. So if you look at the scoring, I think Holo bliss is likely similar or 1 point higher then ferrum due to sound stage but may not beat Enleum overall. That said this is based on memory unlike ferrum which is direct back to back comparison here .

I thought about it. The thing is I’m not sure it’s worth that 15k. I think mass kobo at least even with 475 have a noticable sound difference. But compared to other high end amps, I think it’s a gain some lose some still.

Actually not correct. Most ratings should be done at 110db. Because music is dynamic and also to have great driver control. Also headphones are not all exactly the same impedence loads across all frequency curves. If you use 110 to 120db. Which is ideal. You are using anywhere from 4 watts to 8.5 watts. Half a watt is not realistic and not accurate for real world and accurate driver control. Besides that, the susvara really needs much more overhead. Even if you listen at lower levels and need only 4 watts. You put an amp thay makes only 4 watts you will find it struggles and will distort. Amps making 25 amps and more have been used and do even better when you have an amp with a LOT more headroom and drive the Susvara to it's full potential.
@ZPProductions
@ZPProductions 6 месяцев назад
First, most planars are usually flat impedance across frequencies. Since this video is about Susvara, reference is taken from that. This can be seen in many measurement or tested with current drive amps like Enleum. Dynamics like focal have those wild swings but they usually don’t consume that much power. For 110db, that’s realistic if you are a loud listener where your average volume is 85db. It’s possible for the bass and sub bass region to need that much headroom due to our hearing sensitivity. However I do still standby 105 and half watt being enough for a few reason. Modern songs are highly compressed, most songs don’t deviate 10db from their average volume. They are compressed so even the peak isn’t that far off from the average. However if soundtracks, live recording and orchestra tracks are your reference, they try to do minimal mastering to keep the real dynamic nature. Even then, when we jack up the volume, we don’t jack the quietest part to 85db, but more like the main body of the track. So even though it’s possible to have 40db from softest to loudest, from average to loudest is more of 20db. Secondly, 85db is really quite loud, I know some do listen at that volume but many don’t. 70-80db range is more normal especially in a quiet environment which is where we use such amps normally. So given a 25db headroom from average is actually really huge. The issue is not about headroom in an amp, but as some reviewers pointed out before, it’s the quality of the headroom. Some amps don’t have good performance pass a certain power rating. All you need is half or 1 good watt of power. There’s also a concept of peak power but not many manufacturer release that spec. That said, it all boils down to how loud you listen and what you listen. A well mastered orchestra or sound track will need those massive headroom. So it’s possible you need 4watts if you are a loud listener hearing a really dynamic track. Or maybe like a test environment in CanJam since to overcome the crowd noise, you will need to jack up the volume and maybe reach a average volume of even 90db

@@ZPProductions You don't understand what I said. You do not listen to 110 DB or 120DB. That is for driver control, for dynamics and some head room. If you listened for that loud for long periods of time, you'd loose your hearing. Also, even a very small impendence change affects power draw way more than you think and the impedance. That's why ANY power measurements are always done at 110 DB minimum. Not 75 or 85 which is unrealistically low and that is why you can power them with weak sources but that is exactly why they will sound flat and lifeless with weak sources even though they technically provide half a watt of power. And why the bass will gain tremendous bass extension, slam, impact, tight and well controlled. Amps, like it or not. Will NEVER output clean at their maximum power output, or even at half their output on a highly resolving headphone like the Susvara. If you got a 8 watt amp, likely only 1 or 2 amps is really clean. More on some trully high quality amps, but never at maximum. After that distortion creeps in the form of loss of detail and eventually clearly audible noise or even clipping. You cannot make a recommendations based on only very compressed music, even modern music is not nearly as compressed as you say and swings from a whisper to booming loud. And people listen to a variety. Not just the styles of pop you like. All this and more is what makes your half a watt minimum sooooo wrong on every level. Even in your exceedingly specific circumstances. That is why when Hifiman made their own amp for the Susvara, it was speaker amp power at 25 watts of power and sounds amazing with lots of slam and impact. So when you hit those momentary draws of 8.5 watts or more. It can handle it with easy and no significant distortion. This is not even every aspect of power, sensitivity and impedance. Here is a video explaining it in even greater detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PqlcJnoIcGo.htmlsi=At3Z7s3rcAohze8G

@@johnrus7661 my measurement is based on 110w. Use a headphone calculator, it’s 0.5w for 110db for Susvara at 83db/mw
@johnrus7661
@johnrus7661 6 месяцев назад
@ZPProductions And if you put 120db 5 watts. Which is where you want to be. Every dB increases DRAMATICALLY, and you need multiple clean watts to get the most out of the Susvara. That's just numbers and science. That's why amps like the Hifiman amp, Bakoon, Enleum R23, Benchmark AHB2 (Speaker amp) was litteraly something Hifiman used to demo the Susvara at Capital Audiofest and Can Jam. It's not that it will not run it, but you leave a lot of room on the table for performance.
