My brand new DF4A (20 hours on it now) doesn't have any better water flow than yours did before the impeller change. Probably was fine there... but thanks for the video. When mine needs replacing, I'll watch this again.
I have the 5hp engine 2013 model and what i found out is that the water flow is stopped or bothered in the engine itself ! most of the time you just need to take a pice of metal wire and put it in the output hole of the water just a inch in there and it will be fixed most of the time. Either way good video
That is my experience too. It doesn't take much dirt in the water for the tell-tale nozzle to be clogged up. I usually clean it like you described after just a few running hours. You can remove the tell-tale nozzle to flush out any dirt left inside the engine, but be aware that the crappy brittle plastic nozzle usually gets stuck and is very likely to break when you remove it. So I don't do that without having a spare nozzle and some kind of extraction tools at hand. I apply grease at the nozzle's threads when remounting it. Anyways, I replace the impeller every other year or so regardless of the tell-tale, just to be on the safe side. I have noticed that when don't use the engine for 6 months or so the impeller blades might get stiff and permanently bent.
shame you skipped some parts. l was wondering about how to get off that black rubber thing on the gear rod,to be able to put the new gaskets on ? Mine is similar but 2 stroke.
Thanks for this. I was having cooling water flow issues on my 2016 Suzuki 6hp o/b, just changed the impeller with no noticeable improvement. I feel steady pulse of air at the outflow hole, but that's it. No obstruction at the intake grate or the pipe from the water pump up to the head, so I suppose that means I have to crack the head (& cylinder?) and look for and clear obstruction somewhere in the casting? Any tips?
Great video, thank you for sharing. I would like to know if I you recommend me to change my impeller, I have a 2018 DF6A with 200 hours of use. It is working flawless and every year I do an oil change with filter. Also I would like to know if a pump diaphragm might be a good decition. I will appreciate any other maintenance information to increase reliability as sometimes I sail in remote lakes with limited communication. Thank you!
What about the other hole which has also something with water.. the one closer to propeler (one with bolt..)... What is the function of that pipe..?? Pls help... mine is seemed to be closed...
Good evening, congratulations on the video. I have the same engine as the one in the video, Suzuki df 6cv 4t from 2004. I would like to know if possible, what is the load torque for closing the cylinder head bolts, that I have to change the cylinder head gasket. Thanks bye.
