I went by my local Moto Repair Shop to make a offer on one of their used trade-ins, a Big Brawny Bandit 1200S , but it got sold so I reluctantly considered from two remaining ADV 1000's , a Ducati Multistrada & a Vstrom. While the Duc was tempting I decided to test ride Suzuki's ADV UNDERDOG & fell in Serious Like! It already had a older Slip Streamer Touring Windscreen with laminar lip , a comfortable Sargent Seat & rear-set Bar Risers. The upright riding position practically begs for more miles. The real revelation though, was in the Canyons where the extra broad torque curve makes Mountain passes quickly flow past & the ample suspension provides capable handling allowing me to keep pace with sport bikes in the Twisties. I couldn't resist such a "well rounded package" for such a "steal of a deal" so I gladly added it to my garage. It's probably the best all-around street bike deal on the planet! I've added "peg droppers" & Delkevic S.S. Oval Mufflers to it.

You've pretty much covered how I feel about the bike, glad you're pleased with yours. Just in the process of fitting a new chain, sprockets and a pair of Pirelli Angel GT's. Stay safe!

There was an article about a 1st gen DL 1000 that had 400,000 plus miles on it. Original engine. Supposedly the odometer stops at 200K miles, so he replaced it and went thru another one. This guy rode the hell out of it. 100 miles commute each day for years plus long trips.. I've personally seen a DL650 that had 300 k miles on it. Original engine. The new Pstrom might be better off road, but it's engine will never last 1/2 as long.

That's reassuring and not altogether unsurprising. Proven Japanese tech, proper servicing and regular use are a recipe for success.

I'm with you my friend, I will be looking for an older Strom myself soon, I'm in the Philippines at The moment and coming back in few weeks, in the past I have owned 3 of these bikes , 2 of the 650 and one of the 1000, it's been a few years since I rode one but I have never forgotten the really good rides I had aboard them, for sure I think the most comfortable bikes in this segment and even other more touring segments, in the end you just can't go wrong with the Strom,👍😎👍😎👍😎

Great video. Funny my last bike was a Triumph 955 Sprint and while i loved it, i am looking now for a more upright relaxed riding position to do long distance touring. The choice is either Vstrom or Vstrom😊 because im looking for dependability and comfort. Im still conflicted on the 650 or 1000. The wife is on the heavy side. She wont read this 😊. Im researching fuel consumption at the moment. Id love to know the 1000 Dl is like. I subscribed!

😂 You live life on the edge, wives have eyes everywhere 🤣. The 1000 is great. Couldn't be happier. It ticks my boxes of not being too expensive and all the parts being "tried and true" along with plenty of spares. As long as you have a decent inside leg and you're reasonably strong for low speed work you should be fine. I dropped mine recently due to loosing balance. Luckily the crash bars saved it from damage. If all I did was narrow twisty roads and I was a smaller person I might look to the 650.

I got a 2002 vstrom and i also cant praise it enough for how good it this, but suspension is a bit on a soft side when youre 240 punds.

Watching this one with interest. I'm considering the same model myself....... Do you mind me asking how much you paid and how many miles on the clock.

I picked up my 2007 about two months ago (May 2023). I'm in Alberta, Canada. When I got the bike, it had 34,000 KM (just over 20,000 miles) and came with Givi adjustable windscreen, Givi panniers, crash bars , the rear passenger rest/storage compartment, 12 volt accessory with additonal plug for heated suit, new tires and the original windscreen. I paid $4,200 Canadian, or about $3100 U.S.

I paid £2850 with 36000 miles and no history. Also not that clean and in need of some tyres. But it's solid! Keyboard warriors seem to think you can get them cheaper but here in a remote part of the UK there's not much to look at.
