Oļegs. Thanks for watching! One interesting thing about the Jimny is that there is something basic and retro about it that makes you want to do things to it. What other new car has only 2 small speakers in the front as standard? That makes it affordable to buy and fun to play with. Even with all the extras I have fitted, the car is still less than 1/2 the price of my last Defender...
Thanks Neil - glad they helped! Have been a little quieter recently due to non Jimny projects that are nowhere near as interesting but will get back to it soon. Cheers. N
Thank you so much indeed!! I just fitted front and rear speakers on my new Jimny. Without your videos was impossible to select which sponge goes where (just the bigger one). In my opinion, Suzuki can be better than IKEA on instruction paper 😅. Cheers from Italy!
Frank, many thanks! I agree, the Suzuki instructions take a little understanding and working out. Best wishes from a Scot with centuries old Italian blood in his veins!!!
Great videos mate and a great way to help our little Jimny community! These are some well worth and affordable upgrades, that somehow are offered by suzuki oddly enough as an extra and not standard :D
thanks for the detailed instruction! i'm so happy i dont have to remove the rear seat to put sound deadening on rear fender! that water splash driving me crazy ;)
Thanks for your efforts in making this video its much appreciated as i am about to fit rear speakers in my new Jimny. I will make the adapter plates from thin marine ply as the metal ones seem very expensive for what they are. Many thanks
This video is very usefull thanks. Now it's time to get some freken tyres on this little guy :) BTW i'm so jealous you already have yours. Have to wait 7 months for mine
Thanks for the video. I fitted 6.5” speakers in mine. I used 7mm plywood instead of the steel plates. Filled the whole cavity with soundproof wool and it really sounds amazing. Great that Suzuki already supplied the wiring. One comment though, are you aware of the fact that you can I clip the rear safety belts at seat level? Just put the ignition key in the slot and pull it up to where a strap is provided to keep it in place. Very handy when you use the rear space for camping gear. Take care and enjoy your Jimny
Hola muy bien el video. Un pregunta sabras de que tamaño son las de las puertas ? Quiero remplazar las originales por unas de mejor calidad pero no se de que tamaño son. Gracias
gavin, thanks! I don’t think a reversing camera is required as one of the great things about the Jimny is it’s size and the fact you can see and almost touch all 4 corners! Just my opinion of course...
Does the new jomny not come with the 4 speaker wiring loom already fitted. It was on my 2007 jimny its under the seats.i just had to fit the speakers.. now i have a 5ch subbed 1100 watt sound system..
Hi Norman! Thank you so much for sharing all these Jimny videos. The Jimny has become a 4X4XFavourite here in South Africa and I recently bought a JB74 Jimny and have followed all your instalation instructions for upgraded front and new back speakers, etc. Brilliant DIY content! I have just installed a reverse camera and wanted to ask whether you had any advice on where I should take power from to activate the reverse camera while driving forward? I have a camping trailer, and a motorcycle trailer that I'd like to keep an eye on while driving. The intention is to run a power line through a push button switch on the dash, to power the camera at whim.... What should I look at for power source, and should I include a relay?
Michael, many thanks - and greetings from Scotland! There are a couple of things to think about here. Firstly, is it legal in SA to have a live camera feed visible to you when driving? I don’t think it is in the U.K. Assuming it’s not a problem, you’re ideally looking for a switched live somewhere near the camera. The rear cameras I’ve installed take their power feed off the reversing light so only come on when reverse gear is engaged. Were I looking for a switched live to have the camera on all the time I’d probably take it from the 12v accessory socket in the rear. It’s easy to get the panel off and it’s not far from where the camera will be. That’s probably your best option and I don’t believe you’d need a relay - although I probably would put an on line fuse in just in case. If you wanted an additional switch to turn the power on or off you could probably take that off the fuse box to save you running cables from back to front but make sure the fuse only relates to the rear 12v accessory socket. Let me know how you get on! Best wishes. N
great video, excuse me what is the model of the speaker harness?, in Mexico you can't find the kit from big Jimny or Suzuki directly can you let me know just to order from amazon thank you. I already have the wood mounts thank you for your time
Great Video, greetings from Mexico. Could you please let me know what is the model of the rear and front speakers you used, I am about the watch the front speaker upgrade vide.
Greetings Erick - and thanks! I just used the right size of speakers from a local car audio store. Nothing that special I’m afraid. The front speaker upgrade obviously involves using a larger replacement item. Simply having rear speakers makes a big difference. Best wishes from Scotland!
Hi, the stuff I’ve put on my Jimny has been sourced from different places including Suzuki, Front Runner, Escape Gear, DRI Offroad, etc. You’ll get the suppliers details from individual videos. Best Wishes. N
Heya Thanks for the two speaker upgrade videos, just what I was looking for. Would you be able to tell me the total cost of all the components including the speakers and sound deadening foil please. I'm considering this vs a full after market system for my Jimny when it arrives. Thanks again and awesome work :)
Many thanks. Sorry, I don’t have anything to do with management of the Big Jimny site but recognise it as a fantastic resource and would be very happy for them to use any of my stuff. Cheers. N
The brackets come from Suzuki - but it wouldn’t be difficult to make something up from a strip of aluminium or thin steel. You can get the speakers from anywhere. Best wishes. N
In all honesty, I just used speakers from my local supplier. I took the view - and I think my experience has supported this - that rear speakers make a huge difference but the Jimny will always be a pretty noisy and unforgiving metal box from a sound reproduction perspective! In all honesty, I wouldn’t spend too much on audio upgrades! Best Wishes. N
moseslayer Probably could but at the end of the day the Jimny will always be a pretty noisy tin box with poor sound reproduction so not sure it would be worth it?
They were Panasonic’s by believe sized to fit the mounting kit. Nothing expensive as, as I’ve said before, the Jimny will ALWAYS be a tin box from a sound reproduction perspective. Rear speakers hugely improve quality though by adding volume and depth so everything is a lot less tinny!
Time to install the under seat subwoofer to make up for the lack of bass.. I went with Alpines S-S50 front and back and an under seat subwoofer Alpine SWE-1080.. I had to fabricate my front door speakers as the custom OEM brackets were a fraction too small..
storminatwork at Higher Ground Lifestyle At present I have pulled it all out as I’m about to install a pair of component speakers and a slim line subwoofer with an amp behind the drivers seat. The Alpines sounded great, but now, I want to amplify my whole system. I run an iPad Pro 11” as my infotainment system which has unlimited features than what the stock head unit has to offer.. just waiting on a few more parts and tools to arrive to commence the install.. there is an Australian Facebook Suzuki page where Myself and others have posted pics.. I really like how your Jimny is coming along.
@Helgi Esra Pétursson hi, you will need to grind the rear bracket hole out slight bigger for the alpines to fit in comfortably... the rear plastic panel may rest on the tweeter ever so slightly when putting it back together.. also the rear magnet will also be millimetres away from the rear panel.
Hi, What is the part number for the smaller box? I'm from South Africa, and Suzuki here dont have the kits for the front or the rear speaker... Was hoping to get that part number so I can start hunting onlline for them. I am only getting mine (hopefully) towards july august this year, because of the waiting list. Keep up the videos, you're giving me plenty ideas :)
Pretry sure it's not. I can sort of make it out in the video, but you don't actually say the numbers of have it in the description. Never the less..keep the videos coming. Hopefully getting my Jimny after this whole lock down situation
Reality is that the Jimny is one of the few cars you still need to fit speakers in! Not like in my younger day when we were putting them on parcel shelves and cutting holes in door cards! Ahh, those were the days...
Carlos Castrejón. The kits are available directly from Suzuki - just contact your local dealer! In the UK they are also available at: www.bigjimny.com/store/index.php? I don’t have a relationship with any supplier in order to maintain my independence so please don’t take this as a recommendation. Best Wishes. N
@@highergroundlifestyle Thank you very much! I'm planning to get a Jimny for myself soon and I'm looking for useful accesories and upgrades. I will try to contact the dealer. Still I want to have more options to fiddle arround. Best Wishes for you too!
I did put some in but its difficult to get behind the panels and the jimmy will always be a tin box! If you want top quality sound I'd suggest a Bentley...
There is absolutely NO sound deadening or damping in that car!! It must sound like driving in an empty tin can? Are you planning on applying something like Soundskinz or Dynamat at some stage?
Sias Le Roux I did put some sound deadening in but in all honesty the Jimny will always be a tin box from a sound quality perspective! Adding rear speakers and upgrading the front is a cheap and easy way to vastly improve the baseline position only.
Just tried to install the rear speakers in my jimny and got stuck at the end...in my kit I am only able to find screws for securing the metal mount to the car but no screws for securing the speakers to the metal mount is this how it's supposed to be or did I somehow loose the screws? I've tried the screws that came with the pioneer ts-g1330f speakers but they are too large for the holes in the metal mount, do we know what screw size will fit the holes in the metal mount?
Leonard Van Roeyen Hi. As stated in the video, I used screws that came in the speaker kit. Shouldn’t be too difficult to get alternative screws if they’re too large or to drill the holes in the speaker brackets out. You can always use speaker clamps or rivnuts! Cheers. N
Bimbim Kunnang. Speakers installed are 5.25”. That’s the size the installation kit is designed for. If you wanted to go bigger you would have to make a new bracket. The challenge then would be depth with only around 48mm available! Best Wishes. N
@@highergroundlifestyle Thank you Sir for the feedback! For your fronts, was that 5.25's as well or just 5's exactly? I seem to be having trouble finding an exact 5" speaker in my area.
Hi. The song playing in the background is 74,75 by the Connells. Great song - vey melancholic! Watch the video - then watch the remake 20 years later to see how everyone has aged. You will shed a tear!!!
Salut.
No only 2! ...but its 25% of the price of a new defender, 10% of the price of a G Wagon and I haven't had as much fun with any other vehicle for a long time ... and I have a few cars!!!
Andy Bale. Already had a bit of a battle over this! I am calling it what the Japanese call it. Even had a Japanese friend send me a recording of her saying “I would say Jimny”. A previous commentator said the Japanese don’t pronounce their own words right...
