Yeah, after i used johns jig he told me it was made using his diff, but his diff was bent a little. I figured i better get some pucks and a shaft made to check straightness. Good thing i did! Thanjs for watching man!

So glad you went back and checked the true straight after getting it off the jig. Like I said while you were using it, I think the rod option is the only thing John's jig was missing. Now it's starting to shape up well! - really curious about what route you're going for the truss work. Can't wait for next installment!

Me too man, im not sure what way ill go, but most likely so brackets for a four link can be added at some point....maybe
@gupp22

How about making holes on the end plates of the jig to the same diameter as your alignment rod, that way you can save a bunch of time by having it aligned in the jig before tacking it together.
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
Yes, that would be the perfect set up for sure. I didnt have the rod and pucks at the time though. Thanks for watching!

@@FabbinAdventures that may help alright , but you can't have the center section in while Jigged .I would be tempted to not tighten the center housing in the jig and only use 2 smaller tacs per tube ,as the jig is only for Width & Orientation . Good videos ,getting my diffs prepped for the same treatment .
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
I think a guy could make a jig that did it all, which would be great if i was to build more than one or two axles. I imagine my next logical move would be toyotas, unfortunately we start getting away from the light weight advantage! I have a whole 1980 toyota drive train sitting here for just that occasion. Thanks for commenting and watching!

@@FabbinAdventures & the Toyota's are wider ,that makes a difference some of the places I go hunting
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
Yes for sure, there are limitations to the toyotas, being wider and heavier are a couple of them. I do like being able to get down narrow quad/sxs trails. Most likely i wont go toyota axles, but just in case. Ill have the FJ40 for full size rig trails.

How much of a difference would a cut gasket or layer of rtv between the carrier and axle housing make in the centering of the carrier and alignment tolerances of the axel shaft through the center of the diff gears?
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
I wouldnt worry about that little bit of difference. There is enough play in the whole system that it wont make a difference. I know a guy that has a slightly bent axle tube and he has been running it for years with no trouble. So a few thousanths difference between cut gasket or rtv will not even be noticed. I just use rtv, put a bead on, put the carrier on finger tight bolts till the rtv sets up, then torque it down. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Awesome video, what's the ring size difference between samurai and rear sidekick?
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
Samurai is 6.9, sidekick is 7.5, doesnt seem like much till you see them side by side!
@cswilliams29
@cswilliams29 3 года назад
Nice job! Is there a reason you could not have just used an old set of bearings?
@FabbinAdventures
@FabbinAdventures 3 года назад
I used bigger shaft than the axles are, that way i reduse any flex in the shafting for hopefully a straighter axle! Thanks for watching Craig!
