In this video, I show how to replace the radiator and heater hoses in a 2008 Suzuki SX4. This process is probably the same for all Suzuki models from 2007 to 2009 that use the 2.0-liter engine.
This video was shot in 4K using a Panasonic Lumix GH5 camera and a Comica WS60 wireless mic. It was edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.

Great job! My son-in-law has the same vehicle with a manual transmission and that thing runs like a top...seems to have Toyota quality! For me, I'd just change one hose at a time. Also, ensure the water mixed with the coolant is distilled water only. When burping out the air, turn the heater on hot and blowing and that helps get air out of back there. (If it's not hot air blowing out after it's heated up, you know you still have an air bubble in there.)

Yes, I did have the heater wide open when refilling the coolant. I really expected more burping, but it was an easy re-fill. Thanks for the kind words!

Good job on the video and good advice with keeping up with preventative maintenance. So much better than waiting for a problem to actually occur. One thing you might want to edit in the video information it refers to a 2.4 liter engine but the engine in the Suzuki SX4 is a 2.0 liter also known as the J20A.
@BobKovacs
@BobKovacs 3 года назад
Doh!! You are right! I don't know why I wrote that it has a 2.4-liter engine, as I very well know that it actually has a 2.0-liter engine. Thank you very much for pointing that out... I fixed it.

Ha! Yes, I take really good care of my cars. I even keep a maintenance log of every gas fill-up, every oil change, every new wiper... everything. I hope you found the video useful.

Thanks for the video, I'm in a pickle and this seems way over my skill level lol how many hours do you think it took, so i have an idea on labor costs?
@BobKovacs
@BobKovacs 8 месяцев назад
Assuming you have a way to comfortably lift the car (to get at the radiator hose underneath) and the basic hand tools you need, everything I did can be done in less than 3 hours. Good luck!

I know this video is a few years old now, but do you remember where you purchased the replacement heater hoses? I am having trouble locating an OEM molded replacement in the states. Thanks in advance!

I got them from Rock Auto (rockauto.com), which I recommend as a supplier for auto parts for all vehicles. Good luck!

Yes, I keep my cars clean. And I did do a complete brake fluid flush a few weeks after I made this video. And I made a video about flushing the brakes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G-2v05bBWEk.html

13 3 24, Do you lub' the interna replacelacement hose diameters before pushing into position ? If so what do you use ?
@BobKovacs
@BobKovacs 6 месяцев назад
To be honest, I did not lube the hoses when I made this video. It was not difficult to get the hoses on. If you do need some lube, just spray a little water inside the hose or on the pipe nipples on the engine. Water is the perfect lubricant for this application.

13 3 24, Associated query ; Have 205 65 R16 tyres on my UK 1.6 SX4 due for replacement - Is there a Brand you would recommend Please ? Best Regards !
@BobKovacs
@BobKovacs 6 месяцев назад
I have 205/60-16 Bridgestone tires on my SX4, and they are decent tires. I can recommend them. I believe I got them at Costco... not sure if there is a convenient Costco in the UK, or if it stocks Bridgestone tires. Costco is a major tire retailer in the US, but you generally have to be a member to buy stuff there. I am a Costco member.

13 3 (3), Msny thanks for you advise - ust returned from a local garage. Front suspension on my SX4, now at around 76 000 miles makes an unusual noise from time to time & the tyres scud on hard lock . They road tested it & then put it on their hoist. I now have a Quote for Replcement Track Rod Ends, Lower Front Suspension Arms & an After Geometry check for GBP £543, of which is Labour. It passed its annual MoT last June at around 71000 miles since when UK roads have being allowed to wilfully deteriorate to dangerous levels. I will get another quote & decide wether to trade on, this is our 3rd SX4, or pay up & keep it which is what l favour presently. I'm disappointed but unsurprised since the SX4 is now 12 years old.

Con't . . 51% is Labour costs. I need to think about coolant & hose, steering fluid, & air con checks. Do you favour any Engine Air & Oil filter brands ? Best wishes.

@peterallam6494 My SX4 (2008 with about 100k miles) is in dire need of front struts and strut bearings. The telltale sound is clunking in the front end when going over bumps. I have a couple other minor things to do to it, otherwise we just love the car. It has been so reliable and is such fun to drive. It is ostensibly my wife's car, and she loves it as much as I do. There's no rust and everything works. We bought it new in Oct. 2007, so it is going on 17 years old! No preference for filters... whatever is cheap. I have engine air filter and cabin pollen filter videos for my SX4, but we have different engines and probably different engine filter assemblies. The pollen filter video might be of use to you, although it will probably be on the other side.
