I actually don't hear this very often in American videos - 'I bought a bike I could afford with cash" - sure its conservative, but it really suits your purpose. Great bike - id love to try one.

"It doesn't feel like I'm riding a car" that is one of the best explanations of why I adore light motorcycles. Most modern motorcycles seem to be targeted at SUV owners. You can get a fast SUV, but it's still a giant heavy ass truck. Totally the opposite of what I'm looking for in a motorcycle. Good review.

Yeah, I still feel very self-conscious about it for some reason. Someone needs to make a pill-sized action camera so it's not so obvious.

Good advice! That's exactly what I want to do. Get a TU250 for a couple of years then buy my dream bike (BMW F800GS). I have never ridden a motorcycle before ("manual" scooters though) but it'll be an easy thing to learn with proper training and discipline (to be read: don't do anything stupid). Being 6-2 210lbs, this was the review that made me go for a bigger bike, a 650 Interceptor. When you said if I could change one thing.. an xtra 5hp, maybe 10.. 15.. what the hell, an xtra 25hp might be even better lol. I later bought a 2016 TU for my wife but she decided she'd rather ride on the back of the 650. Too little invested to bother selling the TU.. it's a fun little bike to blast around on. As much as I prefer Fuel injection, I'd rather go with a much classier and more powerful (6hp) carburated Yamaha Vstar 250 over the Honda and Suzuki. That would still be my 'slow cruiser' bike among the stable, but it's enough to not feel too vulnerable on freeway.

Good review of a great starter/every day bike, But given a choice two i’d rather have a ‘Mutt Mongrel’. The Mutt has the exact same Suzuki engine but with what they’ve done with the rest of the bike it’s just so much nicer to ride, plus the fact it looks and sounds amazing helps.
@Sqeptick
@Sqeptick 3 года назад
That is a good looking bike with good specs compared to the TU250X. I'm not even sure that bike existed when I made this review. I would be curious what the fit-and-finish is like on the Mutt given it comes from China. It might be great for all I know, but I'd definitely want to see some honest reviews before I pulled the trigger on it.

I've got news for you: almost ALL of us wish our bikes had just 5 more horsepower. ;) The only bikes I had that I felt like had enough horsepower were missing something that this bike already has: Yamaha FJR1300 - Plenty of power, even two-up with luggage, in the mountains. But it was HOT to ride and a handful at parking lot speeds. Kawasaki KLR700 - Great torque, plush suspension, but top-heavy I did have a '94 Ninja 250 that had enough power, but it needed a LOT of revving and shifting to get it. There's the Yamaha 400, but it has ONLY a kickstarter, which gets old, I hear. Closest to perfection was my 2000 Suzuki SV650, at 69 hp. That was a good bit heavier than your TU, and suffered a few low speed drops during my first few months with it. I may look for one of these second-hand, just to have something different than my Silver Wing 600.
@Sqeptick
@Sqeptick 6 лет назад
+Jeremy D Nice rundown. I've sat on the new SV650 and really liked the feel. The Tracer 700 is intriguing too, but it isn't offered in the US.

Just last week l looked at one just like it, a 2012, same color. I'd rather have it than my Yamaha SV250. Less fork rake, higher seat ht., pegs in a better position. Great review/ update. I took one for a run recently and felt it was underpowered- I am 100kgs tho. My wife is getting her licence and it was for her. I was concerned with the ability to get out of a situation How have you found the apparent lack of power and ability to get out of a situation? Also with that 16 tooth front sprocket. Is the difference that major with speed and performance? Regards.
@Sqeptick
@Sqeptick 7 лет назад
samuraidarryl That was a factor in my buying a larger displacement motorcycle last year--safety on the freeway is improved when you can power around a potentially dangerous situation. The 16 tooth sprocket does make a difference that's quite noticable, especially at highway speeds.

@@Sqeptick My 1994 Honda CG125 has a carb and push-rods and it will do 100 kph (63mph) at 9000rpm with me sitting upright in the normal riding position. Obviously I don't do any long trips because it would be abusing the engine to run it at full power for long periods. Your Suzuki 250 engine has fuel injection and a single overhead cam so I would have expected your Suzuki to effortlessly cruise at 60 mph with easy reserve overtaking power up to 80 mph. For comparison, the Honda scooter SH300 has a 279 cc single cylinder engine at 10.5 compression ratio, which makes 24.3 HP (18.1 KW) at 7500 rpm with torque of 18.8 ft/lbs (26.0 Nm) at 5000 rpm, giving an electronically limited top speed of 80 mph (128 km/h) through an automatic continuously variable V-belt transmission with gear final reduction of 8.56. I'm wondering if your Suzuki engine has been set-up to suit town riding with more torque at lower revs? You should search the internet for people who have experimented with modifying the valve timing, for example, if you advanced the valve timing by advancing the cam chain by one cog, you would get less torque at low revs but engine would be more free-breathing at higher revs which could give you the extra 10hp you are looking for. You have already lengthened the gearing by increasing the primary chain sprocket from 15 to 16 tooth so you could further lengthen the gearing by going up another tooth on the primary sprocket or decreasing the size of the secondary sprocket (on the back wheel). You have said at 6:35 that you "don't want to take what is a mechanically bullet-proof bike and start fiddling with it", but maybe could could experiment with modifications just so you can make a RU-vid video about it? Edit: I've just notice in the video description that you have already replaced the Suzuki with a Honda CB500x.

For all those 'another 5HP' wishers, you might check out the Yamaha VStar 250. Very similar bike but looks more upscale with the look, sound, and power of a chromed-out a V-twin. It's rated at 22HP , 6 more than this Suzuki fire-breather 🤭. I own a 47HP Ninja 300, and thinking of getting a VStar 250 as a second 'cruiser' motorcycle. I took my motorcycle safety course on a TU250, but they had a VStar 250 there and it looked way bigger (engine) and nicer than a 250 cruiser is expected to look. I was wondering what that 'big engine' cruiser was doing there at that safety class, quite deceiving! Only downside to the Yamaha competitor is that it's not fuel-injected (but more modern otherwise), and costs a few bucks more and worth it!
@Sqeptick
@Sqeptick 3 года назад
Good suggestion, Jelad. I can't speak for all TU250X buyers, but for me the fuel injection and the fact that it doesn't look like a cruiser were big selling points. But for people who don't care about those two things, it sounds like the V Star might be a good option.

Sure enough. Still holds the 100 kmh (62mph) on the highway. In The city is fast enough. This bike is not for racing between traffic lights in the city. It is actually 24 hp. you confused Kw with Hp in the specs.I agree with his conclusions. These bikes can go 50-80K miles on the original engine.70 mpg is typical with fast riding. If you ride a bigger bike.. and get on this..you will find yourself overcompensating going into turns.. which is a mark of how precise and light a curve carver this is. I find fault with the seat... look at a Volty.. which is the same frame.. and they had much nicer thicker, deeper seats. A real flat 60;s style seat you could slide back and forth on.. would be a real plus for this bike. Top speed is about 80 with stock gearing.. when the gods are smiling.. so 65 cruise is easy.
