This is my first time with a large triplet. Hard to think my astrophotography has come this far. Scopes like this were only a dream to me five years ago.
Here is the latest product page. With prices.

We used like tons of co-ax cables in the lab and learnt that twisting is really bad for them. Both on a device that moves or taking them on and off into storage. Twisting breaks the fine wires in the shields and the cables become microphonic. Better to follow a lazy curve and to gently fold them for storage rather than coil, "laying" a cable. Running a signal cable alongside a power cable, yeah the shield should work but we get cross talk, better to air gap them.
@TheNarrowbandChannel
@TheNarrowbandChannel Год назад
Never hear of this. The cables are double shelled and foil rapped there will be no cross talk. Twisting is defiantly bad.
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 Год назад
@@TheNarrowbandChannel our radiometry labs did (probably still do but I've retired) deal with small analogue signals. Even well shielded BNC would get 9V supply cross talk when laid together. The PS can induce current in the shield. Once digitised (ADC) not so much of a problem but you still do not want noise added. We would generally star-earth the entire rig. And Faraday cage. Probably well OTT for what you are doing but to be aware of. Strapping cables together is tidy but not always the best plan. Tinfoil hats for camera sensors, no! Electric motors in mounts spit emf in all directions.

Oh boy! This could go way off topic, and deep. I'm a dedicated audiophile, and built/moded lots of tube gear etc. Star grounded (earthed). I made the mistake long time ago to daisychain grounds. That preamp when volume turned down caused hum that blew out $2k in Speakers. Yah cables need to be treated kindly.
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 Год назад
@@mikehardy8247 yeah - some of our tame electronics wizards would hobby valve amps, one wrote books on them. They were the ones that would advise on our electronics and often make up the cables for us.

Most companies sell the ED FPL51 triplet with 115 mm aperture, Svbony is the only one selling it with 122 mm.

From ZWO SPECS: - u need to power the AM5 from an external power source, NOT from the ASIAIR; - u need use the 12v OUT of the AM5 to power the AsiAIR. Try it, the cable management is better.
@TheNarrowbandChannel
@TheNarrowbandChannel Год назад
That is how i set it up. I do wish the am5 power out port had more amps though. The air can take 10amps and with the mount only giving you 3 it limits what you can do with dew straps. Ill be mentioning that in my review.

This seems like a good place to acknowledge cables. How or where do you find, nor only proper length cables, but also ones that stay flexible at low temperatures? I'm in northern USA. Temperatures easily dip into single digits in winter. Some cables ZWO provide with their products are flat, I like these. Some however are way to long. Silicone might be good for flexibility. Power cables of adequate gauge is important to m ad well.
@TheNarrowbandChannel
@TheNarrowbandChannel Год назад
A lot of searching on Ebay. Often though I actually cut them and saucer them back together at proper length. That has surprisingly worked out quite well for me.

@@TheNarrowbandChannel I'm handy with a soldering iron. Just recently clipped my Dewnot RCA jacks off, and shortened the leads, then soldered 5.5 x 2.1 mm barrel connectors on to plug into asiair. Multiconductor USB cables get tricky though. Like I mentioned, would be nice if they didn't get stiff when cold. Thanks for ebay idea. I'm leary of what I'm getting from them.

@TheNarrowbandChannel

Usually Ebay is where I find them. Sometimes it hard to find the right stuff though. I have also often resorted to actually cutting the wires and then soldering them together at exact needed lengths. This has worked surprising well for me.

Looks like they cheaped out by not using a losmandy plate. That vixen bar will be useless on a scope like that

@@anthonygraham6449 I did go down to one weight. Might even try it with nothing. Will test both. The reason for the limit is because the shaft is threaded into aluminum and a lot of weight could shear it off. I'll cover this in my review of the mount.

I am going to start doing affiliated links soon. I would not recommend a scope this large though for a beginner. The 80mm triplet is a better choice. With gear for beginners start with small gear. It is easier to use, less frustrating and don't worry there is plenty to image even at very short focal lengths.
