FINALLY nikateen has gone back to reviewing wrestling games

I got in touch with one of the designers of the game and he gave me info on it. -The team are massive fans of wrestling. They watched it since the 80s, some dated back to the territory days. -They wanted to be as faithful to wrestling lore as possible such as all the various attires taken from different time periods and wrestling events and the arenas. -They never used the same engine for the series. They created a new one for each game. -The Career Mode was created in the style of being a wrestler during the 80s. -The animations were all combined and reused thanks to Acclaim having a animation software dating back to the Nintendo 64 wrestling games they worked on. Most of the team worked on them so they found it pretty easy to work on the game. -They loved working with the wrestlers. They are big fans. -George "the Animal" Steele came into Acclaim one time and saw what the company were doing with the game. He loved it.

Wrestling games never add Demolition to the roster smh... I think WWE 12 was the last time I seen them

Tbh the best part of this game is the interviews with the wrestlers which still are great especially eddies where you can see how much he’s gotten his life back to together

The Best of the Trilogy. A solid counter system and good roster. Hours of fun for all real wrestling fans.

I thought these games had potential, but at the end of the day it was made by Acclaim, a company not known for innovating... But the story lines about the territories was pretty sick

I wish the blood system was addressed in this review. It was HUGE step up over what was offered in the smackdown series down the line. The fact that you could bust your opponent open, and that they'd progressively bleed more and more all over the ring was so damn cool to me.

Out of the three Legends of Wrestling games, the second one was my favorite because of just how more effort they put into making the game and I enjoyed the career mode as well

Didnt mention one cool thing the game does. Randomly, during a move the game will freeze and do a 360 spin with the camera. It basically shows off the move you’re doing like the matrix. Best move to have this happen is a high cross body off the top rope, it looks so damn cool. This game is awesome, once you get the controls down it’s so easy and fluid to dig into.

They should make a new one in 2020 with updated legends

The reversal system in this game, is it the same for Showdown legends of wrestling or is it a different reversal system???

I used to jam to 5:27 in the menu on loop tbh It's insanelllllyyyyyy catchy Fun fact: they changed some lyrics in the Showdown: Legends of Wrestling version Edit: The change was "Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, Million Dollar Man" to "Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, they call him 'The Brain'"

Legends Of Wrestling: It's decent entry but lack of appeal and missing fan-favorites kinda hurt it. 6/10 Legends Of Wrestling 2: This easily the best out of the bunch, a lot more characters and match type but I will admit the way to unlock things is ridiculous and impossible but ultimately a very decent game. 6.5/10 Showdown Legends Of Wrestling: I do appreciate the roster, arenas and match types it has but it's not enough to save it from it's glitchy gameplay, lack of decent campaign mode and repetitive commentary. 4.5/10

Don't know what people were smoking this game is not it I have this game and it's terrible, also any c chance of seeing reviews for 2k and aew

This could have been one hell of a wrestling franchise if they had the 2K engine or the old THQ engine

I loved this game. I had the PS2 version. I can't recall the coin mode tho?

I miss those days different systems chances got a chance to get a turn I miss those days when a video game like wrestling came out and other systems got to turn like for instance it would come out for the super Nintendo it would come out for Sega come out sometimes for Gameboy advance other systems

Definitely like the 1st game, I always remember doing a springboard move on a guy to the outside of the ring with RVD and it being so satisfying to the point where I did it like 20 more times lol

The first Legends of Wrestling game was absolutely terrible! It’s a shame as the concept was brilliant, especially for the time. Instead of Akklaim, it should’ve been developed by AKI (who made No Mercy on the N64- Yuke’s was contracted to make the SmackDown! games).

I actually like 2nd more than the 3rd game. I think the controls are better with its grappling system. It just needed more wrestling moves on it.

During these dark times, more ppl need to be aware of that Jimmy Hart song. It's "It's still real to me dammit!" stretched out to 2+ minutes and laced with Ritalin.

You should review TNA iMPACT (PS3/360 version). I feel like it gets way too much hate. I find it very enjoyable. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

If I was in charge on how to get red and blue coins, I wouldn't do the gambling thing, I would give it a specific way, if you want to get red coins: just win matches in exhibition mode with a heel on mid-card difficulty and for blue coins: win matches in exhibition mode with a babyface on mid-card difficulty.

These games were good ideas in concept just poorly executed. The gameplay is clunky and feels weird to play. The roster is phenomenal and it’s insane how many people they were able to get for these games. I’d like to see 2K try this again I feel like they could make something decent.

I don't understand why Hiro Natsuume (World Region Promoter) is a heel, nothing about him screams heel other than the fact he's from the far-east.

Legends of Wrestling 2 is a far better wrestling game on GameCube than the terrible bare bones WrestleMania X8. However, the Nu-Metal soundtrack definitely did not match the game at all.

Lol i remember i played an 8 man tag while doing a territory match....and an obese jobber was flip over the rope by one of his partners and squash a super skinny jobber This was the best out of the trillogy @LOW2

That's the only gripe I had with the US AKI games was the exclusion of big name legends. Only one we had was Andre The Giant

That damn coin system I remember being so dumb as a kid but a strict upgrade to mobile and EA games.

I wish they would redo this game for all systems they wouldn't have to do too much I mean add a Royal rumble add a WrestleMania add a survivor and the Summers slam most characters we already did it just put more legends demolition Hercules Hernandez Tito Santana 80's wrestlers in the 90s wrestlers just show them coming down the you got a new game imagine somebody could fix that so do like this for all systems

I legit can't find the hilarious sound effects from this game that I loved as a kid. The chair sound and the squeaky ducky sound from the crotch hit.

I got that Game. It is actually not that Bad, I like it. This Game has a a great Rooster on Wrestling Stars from Past and Present at this time. ;-) Who else got it and likes it???

LOW2 was actually my favorite of the series. I really liked the reversal system and I liked the gameplay better than Showdown

Also I find rather unfair that most of the unlockable wrestlers are heels while the babyfaces roster are available from the start well for the most part.

Svr 2007 had the BEST soundtrack but this game had a great one!

Showdown was my favorite LoW game, by far. I hear a lot of criticism for it but I played the xBox version when it came out and it played smoothly enough, while the negative reviews seem to focus on the PS2 version, perhaps.

I definitely liked Showdown the best of them all. I think mostly for all of the different venues being actual arenas, with entrance stages based off of real life wrestling stages. The venue nerd in me always liked that.😂

This is the only Legends of Wrestling game I've played and in spite of all its flaws I loved it. The only thing that I really, REALLY dislike is seeing Bob Backlund for example doing a Swanton Bomb. I know that maybe people wouldn't like it, but I would have loved to have wrestlers with regular manouvers instead of having whatever moves they have

Seeing a new Nikateen review is like the feeling I get when I see Mr Fuji calling Yokozuna up to the 2nd rope for the big Bonzai Drop!

I always love the concept in the career mode of having " exciting match" to progressed. Made u do more than just get the opponent weak enough to pin. Might need to do a ref bump or use a weapon to get it full when u normally dont play dat way. But it was never fully flush out n the ideal was gone by the next game😥

One of my favorite wrestling games of all time

Me and my brother played Legends of Wrestling 1 and 2 a ton back in the day. We used to have the most brutal hardcore matches with blood covering the ring. They were fun to play and wish they'd make a new one.

The Xbox version is better. Fair game.

I notice you say that Scott Hall is your favorite wrestler. Question. How come he never won the World title? With all those backstage politics going on in WCW and having creative control in their contracts, he could've had a run or two at the WCW world championship.

Loved both 1 and 2. Still have both for my GameCube, too! Never played Showdown. I'll have to find it.
