@HeisenbergTheOGIf this is real, here's a genuine piece of advice: don't beg for subs. It looks bad. Just make do with what you have, get on the grind, and do your damnedest. It won't be easy but few things worthwhile are. Good luck.
+ You are supposed to use the bmx bicycle parked in the Phil Collins backstage mission. Dont walk on foot. + You can free aim any weapon, hold the button to lock on somebody and press the dwn button to free aim.
I still remember playing this on my psp at the airport at 4 in the morning. The fact they put Phil Collins in the game till this day still blows my mind
@18:41 : Speaking of the game's music, hearing 'Living On The Ceiling' on a coke bender is just too perfect. I feel bad for never playing this underrated gem, but it will be difficult to come back to as a console/handheld-only game.
@@sedricknoriega5277 NO IT IS NOT. The game simply didn't sell well enough when it released, so R* don't believe it would be worth the cost of porting it, not understanding that the game would do better today than it did back then.
rockstar needs to rerelease these games in a package, but I get it, the radio stuff must be a licensing nightmare and most people won't like the games as much without the tracks they remember. @@JohnDoe-wq5eu
It's kinda happened but it's a mini movie. It's called "San Andreas: The Introduction" events of what happened before the game and setting up for the beginning of the game and it gives us more of a explanation of how CJ's mom died.
What they should have done if it was in that direction was set the game from 1967 to 1969, have it star a young Mike Toreno working for the government, and set up distant plot points for Vice City Stories, Vice City, and San Andreas (for instance, revealing that the Mendez Brothers are cousins with T-Bone Mendez, who would have a much larger role). But Rockstar not only would have never done that, but they also refused to port this game and Liberty City Stories to PC, even though these are still mainline games.
I heard “In the Air Tonight” for the very first time during this game. Immediately went to my GDad and asked him what this beautiful song was and he helped me get it on Limewire. Miss that man very very much.
i remember getting this game as a pirated copy for PS2, i asked the tenant who would do that thinking on getting VC, but me not knowing anything about it said "Vice City Stories" because i heard that name once. What followed is one very beautiful part of my early teen years. I keep a copy of VCS whenever i wanna play it again, despite the pain it makes me endure. And the OST, nothing but good things to say about it, VCS showed me great bands and singers that i follow and listen to this day like Allan Parsons Project, Dio, Autograph, Dokken, Phil Collins, among others.
This is a game i won't forget. I was a kid traveling with my family to Egypt and fortune had it, that another kid on the airplane had this game too, we spent the whole flight playing the multiplayer in the game. Shame we never met afterwards cause weirdly it's the most memorable time from that vacation...
Vice City Stories going for a much darker and gritter story with a more caring and less psycotic playable charecter than the other GTA games really does feel like the devs were getting ready for GTA4
So glad you’re talking about vice city stories, its easily one of my favorites in the series, went through it a couple months ago on a ps2 and it still holds up
technically CJ can use a grapple attack after he learns the martial arts style in Las Venturas gym. but as far as neck snapping goes, thats uniquely a Vic thing i think
@@McGeezle So can neck snaps all GTA games has a protag with a different skill set Vic was in the army argo it makes sense that he'd be effective at killing he's got various cqc moves in GTA 4 Niko johnny and Luis had different fighting style's Luis being the most superior where as GTA5 was just one standard fighting style shared amongst all three characters which was basically just wild Punchs and haymakers. There's a reason why tommy CJ Toni and Vic isn't just a rehash of movements and actions that's built of off Claude otherwise the other characters would have just been a Claude reskin with a voice which would have just been lazy. If you don't like Vic fighting styles simply do not use it dispose of the enemies in other ways but serious question is it just Vic's fighting style you hate or is it Vic himself and your just grasping at straws to try and justify your dislike for the character.
I remember that game. I remember every bit of it because that game is so unique. 1) You start as a corporal in the army. 2) You learned that your protagonist has a brother with asthma & a broken mother. 3) He will be forced to enter illegal work ordered by SGT Jerry Martinez which include bringing a girl on a military base he didn't even back you up & you ended up being removed from the army. My most hated mission as a child was Boomshine Blow out you know the one where you need to save the boomshine from the fire using a forklift truck. Back when me & my cousins where kids we called this game GTA Nigro. I know kinda racist but we didn't really remember the title due to the repetitiveness considering that there's already a game on PC entitled GTA Vice City.
Played VCS by an emulator from my PC. Gotta say, it was Vice City with a lot of improvements. The Empire building mechanic is awesome and it really feels like your earned your place at the food chain. The radios are absolute gems and still are among my all time favorites in gaming in general. The campaign just could have been a little better like giving Sgt Martinez more appearances other than being the classic bad guy that you will kill at the last mission, but still the Scarface feeling was much stronger in this game with the Empire building from scratch and the absolute threat that the Mendez brothers were throughout the story
@@MalikATL I beat it on ps3. Probably a better version than psp in itself, but the framerate was absolutely woeful at times which made car chases very interesting to say the least
Thank you for covering this great game. It is worth mentioning about the stamina system: this is simply a feature implemented to prevent the player easily going to Vice CIty Beach at the start of the game. Later into the game, there is a Beach Patrol side mission that allows you to unlock infinite swimming.
Ah, yes, the game that introduced me to GTA, ever since a friend of mine showed it to me it changed my perspective on videogames for the rest of my life. There was something about a game where you're free to do whatever you want and go wherever you like without being held back by invisible walls or time limits that made me obsessed with the franchise for a very big part of my childhood years.
I loved this one and I definitely felt some of the mechanics from San Andreas in there. Being able to copy your save from PSP to your PS2 and vice-versa was a game-changer back then too.
In terms of the rage-quit missions from each GTA, as bad as the train robbery is in San Andreas, I'd say it doesn't even come close to the awfulness of the remote-controlled plane mission on that rooftop with David Cross yelling in your ear the whole time lol
If you drive the plane on the ground instead of trying to fly it in the air it’s sooo much easier and you can do it first time trying. That’s my tip to anyone that wants to replay the game.
nah, it's only difficult if you fly and not drive the plane. The bombing the multi-story with the helicopter is very easy too if you take your time, which you have plenty of. I think I did it first go on a replay years later. There's ways to exploit most mission or prepare better...I don't remember a hard train robbery mission - riding with Smoke shooting at people on the roof? Just ride well and go the right way - don't panic.
@@goatlps lol all these losers always find the easiest missions difficult, the train on san andreas you basically have to follow a set path and thats it, the plane mission you can literally just fly, it isnt too difficult if you practice a little bit. The hardest mission on San Andreas, the one I struggled the most with, was destroying all those machines in the warehouse towards the end. Or the mission for smoke directly after the train one with the bike chase at the end lol... just getting to the bike chase was a nightmare if you werent prepared.
The only mission I even came close to rage-quitting was in GTA IV. You have to recover a duffel bag from some run-down building, and there's enemies almost around every corner ready to gank you. Had to play it a few times to memorize every possible ambush point. Even then, you inevitably soak up a few bullets trying to make any progress out.
Vice City Stories and Liberty City stories were the first GTA games I personally owned as a kid and I loved them. Like they even had a hostage mechanic in GTA VCS that let you snap their necks afterwards that wasn't in any games since Also buying buildings and turning them into businesses was always awesome
You actually could aim freely with any weapon. While aiming you had to press "D-Pad down" and you'd get a TPP free aim. Also another thing worth mentioning is that VCS had a multiplayer mode where you could play through LAN with your friend. You connected your PSPs and could roam the map together choosing different characters etc. Awesome video btw! Left me very nostalgic.
Can we also consider Chinatown Wars? I mean, it had some mechanics that any other GTA's game never had: the minigames while stealing cars, for searching in trash bins, even talking about the jobs that you can do; creating molotovs, placing bombs, doing tattoos, selling crap and having also trophies for that)
@@voteZDLR yeah ppkemon on gameboy was awesome! I loved that game so much the battle music is my ringtone haha. When other old (im 33 now) people hear my phone go off they Start smiling and instantly recognize it. But yeah, going from experiencing pokemon to gta ona handheld was like woah. I even had tekken on psp
@@cookdislander4372 I am also 33 LOL nice. Yeah so we were playing the game more or less at the same time. My friend had a Super Game Boy so he could play Game Boy games on his Super Nintendo (I think that's what the thing was called, Super Game Boy) and yeah that was dope. We didn't know to train the other pokemon and we picked Charmander first which naturally meant the first gym was Hell for us lol
the amount of hours i spent in this game just flying around and listening to the absolute BANGER soundtrack. Cousin Ed and Lazlow will always hold a special place in my childhood.
100% yes! I was sick a lot the year this came out and had tons of free time, quarantined in my house and/or hospital. So I played the sheeeeit out of this game, as well as Liberty City Stories. I like both of these better than the original games upon which they’re based, because of the improved game mechanics (like swimming!!) . That said, original Vice City changed my life, seriously. I have spent hundreds or thousands of hours since 2003 playing GTA games. I had never experienced anything so immersive. And the soundtrack is what finally opened up my love for 80s music …both of these games have SUPERB soundtracks! They introduced a whole generation to some great diverse music.
I played vice city stories on the psp and it’s the best game I’ve played on my psp, the thing I like is vic vance isn’t like other gta characters that are just doing senseless killing, he’s just trying to help his family
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441if you play GTA games "in character" it's a completely different experience. Recently played GTA 4 again and never did any wild killing. Just played how Niko would live
I remember this game. The Feds were ruthless whenever I got a 5 star wanted level. Not only are they reckless drivers, but they each carry 4 agents equipped with MP5’s that will delete your health bar as fast as an SNK boss.
I thought Trevor was the best protagonist because he’s the only guy that doesn’t suddenly feel like he becomes someone else the second the mission is over. Niko feels guilty about killing someone, meanwhile he ran over 3 people on the drive down.
The only guy? Tommy Vercetti didn't either. He was straight to the point, ruthless, guiltless, and pragmatic. I would like GTA to have a protagonist who is villainous but has a lot more depth and subtly than Trevor or Tommy though. It becomes more obvious you're playing the real and biggest piece of shit all along than a sympathetic "good guy doing bad things". Some films and TV series have done an excellent job with creating protagonists who are deceptively sympathetic but as the layers are unwrapped, you actively loathe every bone in their body. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad come to mind.
Dude, thanks for showcasing the radio talk shows and not just briefly like most youtubers. Still listen to those occasionally at work, laughing abruptly, getting strange looks lol
11:06 You could actually manual aim with any weapons in this game by simply holding down the Aim button and pressing L3 (Dpad down on PSP). It's not as refined as San Andreas' and can be clunky at times, but it still gets the job done in many situations. It's a feature that they've added for both Stories games knowing that they're only Console exclusives.
@@goatlps you can hold triangle button on PSP or PS2 to grab someone, and if you grab them from behind, you can break their neck by pressing triangle button while holding them. It's an insta-kill move
I really loved the fact that you could own business fronts and also recruit people from your gang, i used to get a few guys and do drivebys on the other gangs just to mess around
I remember VCS especially good. I went to do my service in the German Army in 2006. My PSP and that Game in particular made Long Train rides so much better. Loved the Graphics, soundtrack and the new game mechanics. Awesome title 👌🏻
The most interesting thing is Vice city feels absolutely different in GTA Vice city stories, despite on the fact that the map was changed just a bit. I guess it's related to the fact that Rockstar advanced the colors in the game. What I mean is take a look at the sky, at the buildings at night, it's all look way more fancy and beautiful than in GTA Vice city. Also, it's still the best GTA in terms of fighting system, and the game has one of the best soundtrack. Highly recommend to play this wonderful game to people who for some reason didn't play it.
Maybe it was just people who kept playing the ps2 one and not the psp some see it as a down grade . .but their great even better then the og ... thier a ps2 ver so have at it
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 The opportunity was to lift a person by the neck, it was really unique and fun. You could even throw the person away and he would have been hit by a car. In my opinion, this is the best combat system in GTA so far, but this is solely my opinion.
Vice City Stories feels a lot more 80s than OG Vice City tbh, also OG Vice City feels more calm and chill while Vice City Stories feels a lot more crime ridden and dangerous.
This was my first game and first gta I got a psp fro Christmas when I was 5-6 and a sealed vice city stories the memories I have on that game are amazing
What separates you from these other soulless reviewers is your comedic timing. You always make me laugh and keep me hooked the entire time. Thats why im subscribed to you. You make me laugh and keep me focused the entire time...
He must have a team or a really good editor at this point with all of these random clips and stuff unless he just a rainman-like memory for all these little memes.
Drive By "Brace yourself fool" "Killed in seconds before you can even react!.....Wasted!" Seriously enjoy GMan's Comedic Timing and Yeah I played this back on the PSP and I agree when "THAT" happens. It's fucking unfair and I imagine I wasn't the only one looking at my gun downed character still wondering like the Krusty the Clown meme "What the hell was that" once my mind reboots from freezing in shock and horror that I got a game over/wasted out of the blue so easily with no chance to save myself!
Man, this was my first GTA game. There was this garage store that sold copied PS2 games and I picked it up thinking it was the OG Vice City (back then I didn't know there were 2 games, was surprised of playing as another character too), but it turned out to be the better choice over the better graphics, the deeper gameplay and the arguably better soundtrack.
There are several game I could say that would give it more than a run for its money. But the sad thing is it think it’s sound track and also Phil Collins virtual performance is what got this game delisted.
Yeah I'd say Liberty City Stories is less talked about, but even that isn't as obscure as some other GTA games (like when's the last time you heard someone mention Grand Theft Auto: London 1969?)
This was my childhood GTA. Not being able to own consoles or PC the only choice I had was to emulate this on my phone using emulator and not gonna lie being able to make your own checkpoints for missions is really amazing. Thanks you for the nostalgia and a really nice video covering my childhood GTA ❤.
Recently building my PS2 collection back up and I definitely grabbed this again along with Liberty City Stories. I loved these 2 side stories (along with 3, VC and SA).
shwoo couldnt be a worse time for retro collecting with the way prices leaped up in 2020. I havent checked PS2 priced, though, they weren't super high to begin with so maybe they weren't affected as much.
@ataridc Since games are ridiculous so I haven't gone after those. I needed to trade in games when I was younger to manage cost but I really wish now that I didn't need to do that. Either way, I'm enjoying slowly building my small collection again.
In my opinion this game is way better than Vice City, I had a lot of fun playing this, and the missions are really good, I really didn't understand why you don't like them
Tip for when enemy cars are smashing into you: slow down. Believe it or not, this helps. They lose their momentum having to try to slow down with you, and might even get out.
The second PS2 game I ever owned. This game was a real fun experience from start to finish. The only mission that was painful was High wire and the only annoyance I faced when playing is the random tire popping. I believe both the PSP and PS2 version has a manual aim with all weapons, you just can't move around when you use it.
Yeah, they do. It's just the key input for free aiming mode is kinda weird (IIRC you need to hold two buttons at once) and the camera movement is too stiff and mechanical which makes precise aiming difficult unless you're trying to blow up a car right in front of you
Once again Mr. Gman, you pull through whenever I'm having a horrible day, it's like you "know". I'm wistful for the PSP, I had Custom Firmware on mine that would only run backups if you had a UMD in the disctray. I chose Vice City Stories as that UMD, and I loved it. Good times, that PSP was my buddy.
I always wondered If We will see a direct PC Port of this and Liberty City Stories. They're the only GTA Games I've never played. Barring GTAVI, of course, Lol. Really wish RU-vid would recommend Your Videos on My Homepage. Your Channel Is one of My favourites and really has helped Me get through those long days and nights In Hospital. :) Man, I've got a lot of GManLives Videos to catch up on. 24:45 - As Someone still playing through GTAIV and hoping to 100% It on Steam... Oooh boy. Guess I'd better prepare for that.
I'll admit, I had no idea about this or LCS (never owned a PSP) until I bought a new PS2 that came with some games from off line sometime in 2012. GTA VCS was one of the games I received, and man did I have a blast playing it. Took me back to ten years earlier when I was playing Vice City non stop. Vic Vance is now one of my favorite GTA protagonists, and this game here is most definitely an underrated gem within the GTA franchise.
I had VC, 3 and VCS when i was a kid, definitely played VCS the most out of what selection i had, it feels and behaves like a mix between the original Vice City and San Andreas and i just never got bored with it not that the other games don't have the same appeal especially with friends taking turns with the controller pretty much played it till GTA 4 came out coming into the early 2010s and still do today whenever i feel in the mood, gotta love the classics
Actually one of my favorite games - I've sunk dozens of hours into this and thoroughly enjoyed my time. I still listen to the radio stations from time to time!
Great and outstanding games like this shouldn’t be underrated. It’s a gem that won’t let limitations get in the way of an awesome game. The dialogue certainly stands out in this game.
I absolutely loved this game. Side note. Actually insane to think the PS2 was still pumping out games when Elder Scrolls Oblivion came out a year prior and Fallout 3 a year later. While PS2 keep producing consistency until 09 and didn't stop completely until 2013
When I did my chronological playthrough if the PS2 GTA games, returning to Vice City from VCS and seeing the changes to the map really stood out. Seeing the places that played such a big significance now removed, run down or renovated actually had a bit of an impact.
The main problem I always had with this game is that when you start a mission, the game despawns any vehicle not in your garage, making some missions unplayable.
Occasionally I'll remember that Vice City Stories exists and that I played the hell out of it for an entire summer, and honestly it feels like a weird fever dream lol
Vice City Stories is a well made game on the PSP. Next to Liberty City Stories, and watching this makes me want to play this game. Such a shame Rockstar isn’t the same devs we used to know.
Great games, great soundtracks, but come on, GTAV + GTAO is miles better. The driving and gunplay was very basic till IV. No story DLC is the only disgrace, but only IV had that, and it needed it, because story missions was all it had, apart from bowling, obvs LOL - no planes even.
I really loved vice city stories and vice city. To me they are both great games to play. Not everyone is going to like the same thing. Plus I like it because the 80s is one of my favorite decades. Born in 70s and raised in the 80s. Music was awesome and everything about it totally awesome.
two things about this game: 1: You can Free aim, while aiming, tap down on the d-pad and you can start free aiming. works on both PSP & PS2 2: You can recruit your gang members off the street. Lock on them and press up on the d-pad. Depending on what weapons they're holding, they can do drive-bys. It wasn't working during vigilante missions for me at least
I love this game so much, it was the first game I got when I got a PSP for Christmas as a kid. The Stories games are both highly underrated, they need to port them to PS4 & 5. I can't wait until I can afford the PS2 version, it's just so rare that it's insanely expensive.
I didn't know it was so expensive until I looked it up. Some are going for $80 or more. I saw one on Amazon for $59. I have the game. Only played it a few times. Didn't really care for it that much. I bought it when it was released. Don't think it's originally cost a lot.
I disagree. He's one-dimensional, just like Michael and Franklin. He is a total psycho. The parts where he is heartfelt or intelligent always felt hollow.
It’s great to see some attention for this game. Oh and cool part is that if you get wasted or get arrested during a mission, there will be a cab waiting for you outside the hospital/police station and you can proceed with that mission
This game just so happens to have two distinct music tracks both involving song writer and 80s rock star Phil Collins. The first being Genesis’s “Turn it On Again” from their 1980 seminal album Duke. Which happens to be Phil Collin’s final album with Genesis before leaving them to start his solo career. Which happens to be the next song by him from his 1981 debut album Face Value: “In The Air Tonight”. Shame another hit song from Phil Collins isn’t in Vice City Stories; that being the Billboard chart topper “Sussudio”. Also from Face Value. As consolation there’s his duet with Philip Bailey “Easy Lover” from his 1985 album Chinese Wall.
Turn on Tune in Bug Out the antenna mission absolutely fucking haunted me when I was a kid playing this game on the PSP. I could not begin to fathom what kind of sick freak conjured that mission
I used to play this on the PSP back when it came out, I never even finished the game just screwed around for years driving cars and rampaging. Recently I bought a switch and got vice city to relive the hours on hours of fun I had as a kid and was so confused when it didn’t start at the army base. I’m progressing very quickly through the map and the game looks just as good as it ever was. I live in a different continent now and am turning 20 soon, but this game is a portal back into my childhood, a throwback to simpler times.
Dont forget the bmx Holding the analogue forward with x keeps your vance leaning forward and still, yet becomes the fastest vehicle in game within seconds 😂
Playing this Game, on my PsP back in 2008 as a 10 year old is one of the first memories i have of my life. great game i've played through it multiple times until 2012. i'd like to replay it today on my ps vita if possible lol.
