Prokofiev explained that he wanted to make something new with this concerto. It is not an easy to understand score, and I must admit that I was deceived by many renderings. But here, with Maalzel conducting the orchestra and Richter as soloist, all obscure things become clear, and it is indeed a great pleasure than following the imagination of Prokofiev in that concerto !
