Timely review, just started getting a 2Ch system together with main priority being music but will get plenty of use with TV too (but by far second priority to music playback). Picked up the Focal Aria 906 and stands for half price, getting the Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 and just deciding on sub now. Stuck between this and the SB-2000 Pro, room is 5.4m X 4.2 so I think the SB-1000 Pro is sufficient (corner placement the only option, so some room gain to be had).
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
soooo, surprisingly the cheaper 1000 pro integrated better for me, you know I have the Aria 906 also, so that was a big surprise. Also the REL HT1205, T5X, and Rythmik F12SE all paired well with Aria 906. Aria is a quick speaker with respect to bass so it needs a quick to respond sub.

Good advice on calling SVS. They have been extremely helpful with room placement, trying to Integrate my old school NSD-12 in a very tricky room full of modes and nulls (as you know I plan to upgrade with Rythmik, REL, or possibly JL). As for a replacement, they recommended the SB-2000 Pro for my room and system (which is commendable, rather than just trying to upsell the biggest sub they make). I do like their products, and I plan to use one in my office system. For my main living room system, I plan to go more SQ.

Just discovered you. You are really a good and informative speaker and are excellent on camera. I just acquired one SVS SB 1000 Pro for my TV room and it is everything you said it is. Blends beautifully with my little, cheap B&W 302’s and 1960 Heathkit 12 WPC integrated tube amp I refurbished. But on my main music system (Bowers and Wilkins 805 D3 speakers and Luxman L-590 AxII integrated) I choose a pair of Martin-Logan Dynamo 800x subwoofers. They are smaller than the SB 1000 and easier to hide and place, has a hidden down firing driver, and are only somewhat more expensive at retail $899 each (though as of this writing they’re 20% off). In comparison, the SB 1000 has maybe a smidge more output in the lowest octave than a single Dynamo, but the Dynamo 800x blends more seamlessly with the 805’s, particularly in the crossover region where they prove to be as agile as the 805’s mid-bass drivers. The system now does cellos properly and the subs do indeed disappear. And by using a pair - and this is true with any pair of subs - I have more grunt and thwack than I will ever need or use. Like the SVS, the M-L sub has full app control but additionally adds the excellent and effective ARC room correction (you can do it with your phone). Just another great choice for you SQ sub folks.

Hey Dan, thank you for the comment, I didn't know ML subs were more SQ focused. I'll reach out to them and see if they're interested in a review! Your two systems sound killer, I've not had a tube amp yet but I'm sure I will one day.

I got the sb 1000 pro and 2 svs satellites as a package and as a noob to hobby I couldn’t be happier. I’m 65/35 streaming shows and movies. The on the fly adjustment makes all the difference. If wasn’t able to switch up settings between movies and music I would either be underwhelmed or annoyed by the volume of the bass. Now I have the eternal (rhetorical) question though. Should I by another sb 1000 pro for dual setup or bump up to a bigger sub? Thank you for yet another fantastic video. I really enjoy your delivery and knowledge.

I picked up an SB-1000 Pro for my office of that size, in a 2.1 system. It replaced a JVC 8" 50watt sub, and the cabinet is the exact same size!! I can't believe how much sound comes out of such a petit form factor. Anyway, I highly recommend for a small room. It's very natural, tight, deep, and punchy. The app features do a great job helping it integrate in my room. I've also brought it home for my theater system, ran it as a single, ran it as duals. It doesn't quite have the authority for a home theater room on it's own (albeit, its sound quality is excellent, especially for its price point). Bottom line, it's a great value, especially for a small room.

I can say, that even without it being calibrated, and coming from a couple of old wharfedale subs, that the difference is night and day. I know it will sound even better calibrated. Tested out a couple of movies, and theres just so much sonic impact, and old scenes become new again. As a PB-1000 owner I can 100% endorse your final comments Nemo. That subwoofer is just brilliant at movies. I recently bought the Bluray movie Cloverfield and almost had a heart attack by the final bass thump at the start of the movie where it goes from silence to a crescendo of bass thumps. I also got the movie Gravity on bluray recently. The sound engineering in that movie is something that your ears just aren't prepared for. About attack versus integration, in my opinion it depends on the amplifier you are using for your speakers. Class D has a very high damping factor and if the subwoofer is class D and the speakers are not, then you are getting the subwoofer to stand out. But if both subwoofer and speakers use class D, then both will have the strong attack and should integrate well.
@NemoPropaganda

I think it's more the MMS & CMS of the drivers, heavy & stiff drivers will pair better with SPL subwoofers that are generally heavy & stiff.

@@NemoPropaganda Interesting thought. In that case a relatively "underpowered" SB1000 Pro should be better to integrate than an SB2000 Pro for example as the lower powered driver needs less mass and coil gauge, but that is not what you observed, so I don't know. :)

I can’t agree at all with your statement. Otherwise no audiophile would get a sub to complement their systems with Class A/B, Class A or vacuum tube amplifiers since the great majority of subs now use Class D amps. If the sub stands out, it’s turned up too loud, poorly placed, or both.

Here is Extra info: SQ (Sound Quality) is about having clarity and fidelity while being able to hear every single frequency of the song nice and clear. SPL (Sound Pressure Levels) on the other hand is about being loud & measuring cabin pressure in dB's (Decibels). In movies SPL is better option

I listen to music all day and not particularly worried about theater stuff. I was looking at klipsch r100sw and the SVS 1000sb and 1000sb pro. I'd like to take some weight off the fives and would love to dial in a smooth laidback feeling (I general listen at relatively low volumes) that can kick when needed. Also would like some ability to correct for the room and not sure if the built in bass management for the fives/klipsch app would make the sb pro a nice but not necessary upgrade. @NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
Good choices :D. Yes! Subwoofers have stiff suspensions that need a bit of time to loosen up. After break in they will usually play louder and have more authority/extension in the lower frequencies. Play a song like bass I love you on repeat for like 2 hours at medium volume. That should get it most of the way there. The rest of the break in will happen over time as you enjoy the subwoofer.

Now this is my type of subwoofer. Having said that if you want to get down to 20 hz this one won't do it without some room gain so you might not achieve it. I read where 25 hz is more realistic before it starts to fall off. I'd get the SB 2000 pro myself, actually 2. Nice review.

Nice review, thanks. I’ve also just watched your review from quite a while ago on the B&W AWS608, which you really rated back then for music based listening. I’m at the decision point for my first sub, to fit in with 5 x B&W M-1 satellite speakers. Room is about 12’ x 15’, open on one side to open plan living area. I rarely listen above 75dB, and focus is more on music and than movies or gaming. Three choices available where I am is SVS SB1000 pro, or B&W 610 or 608. Prices drop by about $100AUD between each one. (about $70US). Unfortunately I don’t have chance to listen to any prior to purchase. With the M-1’s being such small satellites, would you think the SVS could be mismatched, or still the best option. I’m mainly asking because you rated the B&W 608 so highly for matching in with small bookshelf’s, for music. Thanks for your help.

ASW608 should be okay for you but consider REL HT1003 or T5X if the price is close. SB1000 Pro while maybe a bit overkill I think is actually a good option still too. SB1000 Pro integrates pretty good, from all the SVS subs I tried it was actually one of their best integrating models and you should be able to hear one in a showroom so that will help too! My problem with the 608 is it's too expensive in my opinion and is over 12 years old now.

Good video Nemo. What are your thoughts on speaker level vs line level inputs. For my music only system I currently have dual sealed subs driven by speaker level inputs from my amp and they sound great and blend well, but unfortunately one of the sub amps is starting to loudly hiss and is slowly on it's way out. So I'm looking for another pair of subs. I prefer speaker level inputs just as REL endorses, but SVS and Rythmik do not seem to support speaker level inputs on most of their products. REL subs are out of my budget zone. Please advise. ☮
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 4 месяца назад
When REL speaks about high-level they are specifcially talking about their own high-level and not other brands as they are not the same. Most subs will sound better using an rca cable unless your subwoofer output or preoutput has some delay, a weird filter, noise, or some other issue and then in that situation your sub might sound better using high-level because it's getting a cleaner signal. This should not be an issue on most modern gear however. Remember the high-level on the back of most subs simply converts it to low level (RCA) internally and the signal is ultimately received as if you had just plugged in an RCA cable so if your sub sounds better via high-level then your source most likely has one of the issues I mentioned (some delay, a weird filter, noise, or some other issue).

@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate your dedication to your viewers. Everything you stated makes sense, but from my understanding the purpose and main benefit of using speaker level inputs is to allow the tonal characteristics of the main system amp to be shared with the subs. To potentially keep the main speakers and subs drinking from the same well, so to speak. That’s got to be beneficial and somewhat audible. I’m thinking about the SVS SB1000 Pro due to its affordability for two subs but as you say, I’m in the SQ camp and not sure if the SB1000 will meet my expectations. A friend has a pair of the previous gen SB1000 non Pro’s and they hit pretty hard in his non treated living room but he’s really not an audiophile. You mentioned lighter moving mass(like focal) and heavier moving mass speakers. What is the sonic characteristic of each type?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
I can't really answer that question, it's all a balance, the driver should be light but it needs some mass to retain it's stiffness, it's like any other part of the subwoofer. The plate amplifier needs a strong output section to handle dynamic swings, the cabinet needs to be built well and sized appropriately, the filters need to be designed intelligently. No single one of these aspects on their own makes a subwoofer good or bad and their relationship is highly relatable. The whole system has to have the right balance of all these things (and more). Both have their benefits (heavy/light moving mass) but we're getting into a realm I honestly don't enjoy discussing as we'd have to make very broad generalizations to avoid writing a book to answer the question :). If you're really interested in that sort of thing the DIY groups are a great source of info.

@NemoPropaganda

If this was a theater setup I'd say hell yeah brother but generally I feel like light & airy speakers don't do well with heavy handed subwoofers in music only systems but some people do like that kind of contrast. I have not heard the Aria 926 but I have the Aria 906 as part of my permanent collection. Ultimately you have $3k/pair speakers which is not cheap, you're more than welcome to hop in the free discord and we'd be happy to help you find something that fits your room & personal needs. Maybe the SB1000 Pro is the right sub for you but we need chat more to see if that's the case which is impossible to do in the comments section of YT.

Love your channel. I have a 3.5mx4m room and upgraded ny speakers from B&W satellite speakers to KEF Q750 fronts, Q250c centre, Q50a as surrounds and IC200ER for in ceiling. I have a old B&W AS2 sub and looking to upgrade as well, I would like a SQ sub. I am looking at REL HT 1003, 1205 and SVS SB 1000 pro. I can't get hold of Rythmik or RSL subs here down under. I can't have 2 subs due to placement in the room. I don't like boomy bass which one of those should I get? I like the price and size of HT 1003 how do you think will it go with my system or do I need to go 1205?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
Hey Parminder, thank you for the kind words, those are some beautiful looking speakers you have :). So that room is very similar to my room size. A single HT 1003 or SB1000 Pro will for sure be enough for music. For movies you know there is so much bass sometimes so you might sometimes wish you had the larger/more powerful 1205. Since you can only have 1 I think you should get the one that offers the most output like Emotiva RS11, REL HT-1205, SB-2000 Pro, or Arendal 1961. But still based on taste you might still want more, "how much bass is enough" is very personal but I think most people would be happy with one of those 4 I mentioned.

@@NemoPropaganda - really appreciate your prompt response. Yeah without the grills the KEFs look good and they sound great as well, I auditioned B&W 600 series, Dali Oberon series, Polk, Klipsch, Q accoustics, Revel and I liked KEF the most of those. I also heard Dynaudio in a stereo setup the instrument separation on those is just amazing but they were a bit expensive, I found the KEF to be closest to them and I got the KEF deal (pay for Q550 and get the 750) so they ticked all the boxes. Unfortunatly it will be hard for me to grab Emotiva or Arendal sub here in Australia. Most Home Theater Audio stores recommend getting the SVS but in a store I heard two REL subs rocking in a stereo setup and I was impressed with the quality of bass. The guy I bought the KEFs from recomended me the REL HT 1003 but another guy from the same store said HT 1205 which confused me but they were both REL over SVS. I like my B&W sub but I wanted to upgrade to get a better SQ sub not necessarily louder, I use my media room to listen to music, watch tv, movies. I think I tend to like the 10 inch subs as they are faster, though I used to own a JBL soundbar with a 12 inch downfiring sub in the past which was in a small room and it was great and powerful but my ears were not as trained back then as they are now. For example in my car I went from a Rockford 12 inch ported sub to a 10 inch DD audio and I like it more. With the size of my room there will be some room gain as the sub will be placed in a corner near to the wall, will the HT 1003 go low.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
@@parmindersingh-fu8sh I don't think anyone will hear a difference in terms of speed between the 1003 and 1205. The 1205 is a super quick sub but it sounds like you really want the 1003. First off great channel. Love your take on subs. My question is this. I currently have the new Klipsch cinema 1200 HT system with a 12 inch ground firing and ground ported sub. The system is in my great room which is 40 x 40 with 24 foot ceilings. It's massive. No acostic treatments yet. I want a second subwoofer to add to the Klipsch. Should I stick with an SPL sub since that's what I have in the Klipsch sub or can I /should I mix a SQ sub with it. My gut tells me to stick with an SPL sub. What would you recommend from SVS? About 60/40 movies to music. I've been told to stay away from Klipsch for subs.

Hi! For audiophile listening, do you think 2 of these subwoofers will go deep enough at moderate listening volumes? The system is in a 40sqm livingroom and my speakers (Heco Celan Gt 702) although they should go as low as 24hz, they don't. If i push their 6" drivers to the limits which creates a "forced" sound they go maybe to 50 then the base becomes very weak. I was looking to the SB 2000pro, but the price difference is 600$ and i don't know if they bring such big improvement. Thanks in advance.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 2 года назад
Those Heco look very nice, the 24hz spec could be at -10dB, it's kind of uncool that they don't list it in their specs. I think these will go deep enough for most music. Pipe organ probably not but most subwoofers can't play pipe organs anyways... While this is SVS most entry model it's still a 12" driver so it's range of say 25hz to 50hz will be much more effortless than your mains.

@motorhead16 2 года назад
@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for the answer, much apreciated. The final question would be if the SB2000pro would go much deeper in real life than SB1000pro. On paper the difference is that of power (which is enough with 300w), the 1hz difference doesn't seem much from specifications. Thanks again!
@NemoPropaganda

@@motorhead16 The 2000 pro is a better sub, we can't deny that, it's the next model up. But where it's better is most noticeable at the absolute limit of volume and extension. If you're going to push the hell out of the 1000 Pro then it might be better to get the 2000 pro.
