Today I discovered that we have almost unlimited undo options in #onshape. This is a function that will be very helpful to anyone doing #3dprinting since it will let us go back to an earlier version that was functioning as intended!

One of the best features of Onshape. It's saved me so much time when the boss come by and says "I kind of like what you had 2 days ago"... Ok, click, click, scroll, scroll, click. "You mean this?" "Yeah!" ok, version, branch. Done

I agree John this looks like amazingly useful functionality! And I'm excited to learn more about the branch and merge stuff! That will be video 2.0 😁

They've gone deep on that version / branching functionality. The configurations table (flyout on the right side of the part studio) is also very easy to use. Would take a matter of minutes to set up multiple iterations of that part by tying the dimension in question to a table.

Ohh dang Sammy! Configurations Table? That just made it into my notebook of "things to look out for"- That sounds perfect for batching out a 4-5 different versions of a design for 3D printing and physical testing. So awesome!! Thanks!!!

Sometimes when I go down a rabbit hole and have things I like and things I don't, I'll just look through the timeline for the info of what I used to have instead of having to fully revert. Works great if you break something and can't figure out the fix too. Just rewind to when it wasn't red.

Yeah that was something I was thinking about when I came across this functionality - In complex surfacing I often move 5-10 different splines, just slightly, to see if I can get better results from my curvature. This would make it SO EASY to jump back to one specific point, especially if the whole thing blows up on me (conflicting splines start crossing...etc..)G Great stuff THANKS MICHAEL!! I'm gonna look forward to diving in deeper on this topic!!

The best part is that Restoring is nothing like “Rollback” in PDM, meaning Restore in Onshape does not delete any history. I call it the “Back to the Future” capability. Also you don’t have to Restore, you can create Version on any of those history points an Branch from there 🤯

YEEES!!!!! I am so excited to hear that! I haven't done it myself yet but it was the first thing I thought about when I made the video ("What if I wanted to keep BOTH versions?") -- sounds like branch and merge is the next thing I'm gonna need to dive into - very much looking forward to it!! Thanks for the awesome comment. I'm excited now!!

should have watched this video yesterday. I had to start over from scratch to modify my design. (had I watched your excellent video's I would have save a bunch of time.) THANKS LOVE your style

No need to think about when to save or not save (so you can "close without saving" if needed) or do a "save as" and/or check-in, etc! After some time you take this for granted and have "painted myself into a corner" several times in SW since I've been primarily using Onshape! A couple of extra thoughts on that: there's a compare function right there as well so you can see the difference (volumes and features) between any of these states if the differences aren't obvious! You can also have two browser windows side by side looking at different points in the history. Especially handy as you can roll back and bring up the feature creation dialogue for any of these history points. For example if you have fillet that has lost some of its edges and want to figure out what they "used to be".

Ah good tip. I ran into that recently where I was wondering what edges I was missing in a fillet op.

Wait...a compare function??? Oh man this is gonna be SO USEFUL!! I'm definitely going to look into that one more! Thanks airwick! so helpful!! I love the "2 browsers" trick too - great idea!!

@@Marc_Miller I could totally see that being useful!! Thanks

I knew it was in OS but couldn't find it, now I know. Restore to Main - curious if it deletes the history of what I DON'T want. I will try it.

why onshape in new version can not read solid asm zip?
@servicestechniquesericgauthier
1) If you mean Onshape can't import the latest release of a SW assembly, it is because there is a delay betqween a SW release and the time Onshape can support it. 2) If you mean you can't import an older version of a SW assembly within Onshape, it might be because the zip file must have the same name as the main assembly within the zip file and you can't have any folder within the zip file (place everything i.e. main assembly, subassemblies and all parts directly in the zip file without any structure or folders).
