So, I decided to try something different for this vid and have no music, just the sounds of the bush. Let me know what you thought of it or if you prefer a bit of music. Thanks legends and hope you all have a good one!

Great video mate. With the Situation on keeping warm I would rap your body in Newspaper over an old shirt and then covered by your jumper and trackies as the tight fibres in the paper will trap the heat and keep you toasty. Trust me..ex Army and works in really cold temperatures. GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY Scotty👍👍🍺🍻

I actually prefer just the sounds of the bush - the gorgeous bubbling, burbling sounds of the creek, the birds, the crackling of the fire...so relaxing.

Traditionally, a swagman doesn't run a second strap over the shoulder, they run a thin bit of rope around the bottom strap of the swag and run it around the tucker bag. This keeps the tucker bag secure and close to the body. Using a leather strap over the body hurts after a short period of time, and sweat results in the leather dye staining your shirt. But otherwise well done. 🙂

@Owl566 Год назад
In the army, if it was very cold we would shove every other piece of clothing we could into the bag around us, not wear it, stuff it. Even kit, like webbing etc to create a warm air bubble. It would trap warm body heat and insulate you. It would take a few minutes but it would work. It had the added benefit of pre warming the clothes you would put on after you got out of your sack in the morning. If you just wore all your clothes in bed and then got out, you were essentially removing a layer (sleeping bag) and it made you colder. Try that when it’s cold 👍🏻

Just found something different as bedroll. Bought a 80-82 inch "Waterproof Dog Blanket" on Amazon, folded it lengthwise in thirds so I have two layers on top, one on bottom, then added 5 stitches at foot end to keep it together. Stuck a torso size pad inside it for ground insulation and inflatable pillow. This makes a minimalist bedroll that I can lay on wet ground, could even get rained on but I would use a tarp or poncho for rain cover.

Not sure if i am alone here, but you have built up some awesome content over the years Scotty. Have you ever thought of doing a Highlights video of all the Australian scenery you have filmed. There are a lot of great videos on RU-vid that try to show a location and set it to music, but I think i would not be alone here when i say that Scotty has put together over the years some of the best video footage of Australia and the Aussie bush, with various views, canoe trips, pack rafting trips, campsites and campfire set ups which combined together would create one of the best long play scenic videos of the best of Australia.

nice little outing Scotty, in spite of the last minute change of plans. and may i say -- no offence intended -- i'm a fan of the "no music" approach. music is for when you're sitting back at home or the pub being nostalgic about your great adventures. the bush don't have music and don't need it, imho. 👍✌🖖

So relaxing and chill without any music. The music in the vids works well too. I knew of a swagman that once came across some lambchops and mint jelly. 3 coppers tried to grab him just as he was stashing it in his tucker bag. Poor bloke hightailed it into the nearest backwater in an attempt to escape and he unfortunately drowned. Some people say you can still hear his ghost if you pass by that billabong.

I don't mind no music, just the sound of nature/bird song/running water etc. but I also like the music you use in your videos for intro/outro. I bet a trap over the swag would solve the condensation problems common to single-wall shelters/swags/bivvys/tents.

I think the old swagmen would have laughed all right, but secretly they would have envied your lamb and beer. Sometimes, the most basic equipment forces you to get pretty inventive, and you have that aptitude to make it all turn out just right. Cheers from Canada, eh.

Another nice bit of bush time, it’s getting cool out there. Boil up some water in your SS bottle, wrap in some clothes and pop under the back of your knees, bonus in the morning you have water to drink or reboil. It got down to 4 when I was out 2 weeks back, glad I had my top quilt. Bugga your first location was gated, I’ve noticed Nat Parks is slow at site updates. Cheers

Let you into a little fishing secret to try. Take some Tip Top 9 grains original ( must be this brand and tyoe) and form a tight dough ball around your hook. Fish can't resist the stuff and it's light and easy to carry some slices in a press seal bag. Let us know at Aussie Homestead how you go. We've been using It for years.
