woah... she was 48 at the time of this performance! most athletes and performers retire well before that age and here she is incredibly strong and graceful. amazing!
+Fredde jpg She had it ALL - the most beautiful arms (watch her Dying Swan), incredibly long, beautifully extended legs, gorgeous lines, exquisite expressiveness, technical perfection - a ballerina's ballerina! She was one of the Greats.
She embodies Odile so well. There's an unapologetic ruthlessness and boldness to her movements that's extremely unique. Maya Plisetskaya's Odile is gritty, animalistic, fierce, dramatic, and glamorous. She completely pulls you in. All other versions of Odiles I've seen so far seem soft and delicate in comparison. I don't think any other dancer can pull off this kind of "harshness" in this role and still make it look so magnetic & elegant. Her stage presence is simply incandescent. 3:30 - 3:39 Her Odette is so fragile, pure, and vulnerable.
I have met Maya twice in the recent years, once in Germany and once in Armenia attending concerts of compositions by her husband. I felt so humbled and so honored to be in her presence. Over eighty years old but still stunningly gorgeous and a lovely person. One of the strongest presences I had ever felt in my life! Although completely different dancers, for me Plisetskaya and Ulanova are the best dancing artists who ever lived, their artistry (I don't mean technique) unmatched to this day!
The drama is incredible. She is the most alluring Odile I have ever seen -- she pulls him to follow her through sheer force of will. It's extraordinary -- and at age 48! Just incredible! In addition to which -- that center. She hit attitude and BAM -- she doesn't move. Does a pirouette and BAM - she sticks it. I've noticed this in other performances I've seen of her. She is unique among ballerinas - something innately dramatic and extraordinary about her work.
I have actualy no expertise when it comes to ballett, but know a little about how acting, danceplays, acrobatic, what are the chalanges and what to look for . . . I'm totaly stunned, I've just watched odette and now odiele and the contrast in how they move is enormous, a whole diferent kind of energy to it, that woman is magnificent!
So glad you said that! Her hands and arms says so much more than that high leg...bravo! Little girls who saw her dreamed only of being or becoming ballerinas! Very influential dancer. May she RIP! She touched lives!
The most amazing thing about this performance is the way she displays a story with she and Sigfreid. You don't see that to that level any more. The way she looks at him and conveys with her body the toying with him, the authoritative deception, the way they both look at each other and drawing back and then forward, that power dynamic. It's so beautiful. The great Plisetskaya. Kovtun did some wonderful steps.
Even though technique from the waist down has evolved significantly, my god ain’t nobody got those arms. She will forever be the gold standard for the Port des bras of this ballet . She has the most legendary swan arms of legendary swan arms. And I feel bad for the man in this video because he is actually quite wonderful and we are all drooling over Maya but my goodness he is also quite technically proficient for 45 years ago. He actually has quite a modern aesthetic for a male ballet dancer considering it was 1978. Lovely lovely lines and gorgeous feet on him. Beautiful musculature and sound clean technique.
Maya Plisetskaya's skills never turned rusty, thanks to her grueling training regime at Bolshoi! Her sense of aesthetics helped her develop her own style, which was unique!
Здесь Майе Михайловне 48 лет. И как она танцует! Техника само собой выдающаяся, главное у нее всегда в танце характер героини. Восторг!!! И сейчас мало кто к ней подошел близко.
That's mystery of Maya. At the age when most dancers are getting ready for retirement she came into her absolute best form. She is just scorching the stage as Odile here. I still want to see anything close to what she did in that role. There are so many talented dancers, the technique is uniformly so incredibly high these days across the board and yet... That amalgam she possessed of exquisite musicality, elegant sensuality and expressiveness of the utmost sophistication I just have yet to see. Call me names but she is irreplaceable.
I saw them at the Colon theater in Buenos Aires that year, 1973. They set the standard. It is in this manner, and no other, that this ballet ought to be performed.
The first time I saw someone do the dying swan was Maya and that made me want to perform as a professional ballerina and now I'm in love with it!! 14years of ballet and still going strong!! I love and miss you maya
What an extraordinary beautiful performance. Strong, emotional, brilliant - in one word: perfection. She was one of the absolutely best!! May you rest in peace, dear Maya Plisetskaya! You will always be remembered fondly and with great affection!
Необыкновенно красиво, она сливается с музыкой, и кстати нет у неё этого присловутого подьёма, он ей и не нужен. Зато нужен остальным, у которых нет слуха.
People will be mesmerized by Plisetskaya videos long after many of today's supposed stars are long forgotten. There are very good ballet dancers and then, once in an extremely rare while, there is a great, completely unique artist. Maya was one of those. Don't expect another to come along anytime soon.
Had I been at this particular exposition, too late afterwards would I have realized that I should have slashed my wrists and bled to death right there in front of that stage. Watching it, and fully grasping what it was at the exact same moment, well... ...it's the very meaning of epiphany. You only 'see' deeply, afterwards. You're enjoying too much at the time, in the moments.
This film show clips from all parts of Maya Plisetskaya's amazing career. She was a true artist. She tells the story with her technique but also her dramatic sense is impeccable. Bravo to a truly brilliant career. It is true she will be remembered long with true respect for her talent and her artistry.
Many ballerinas play the role as if Odile were merely the pawn of the man who controls her, her power only borrowed and completely under his direction. Plisetskaya, though, is a dominating Odile-she will place herself face down on the ground as if to submit, but it’s only to draw him further in where she can claim his power for her own. Lovely powerful interpretation.
I wish ballet was still like this, I have watched this countless times it never gets old. Now I feel like ballet is too close to gymnastics and not artistic anymore. I met Maya when she was in her 70s, let me tell u blown away by how beautiful she is in person
The best there ever was. The best there ever will be. I saw her live - & younger. She did the adding Swan as an encore - grown men in tears....the was before men could cry. Prima ballerina Assoluta!
