This song is Un-mistakably associated with Al Jolson. It was written by two Jewish brothers -- George and Ira Gershwin. One wrote the lyrics (words), the other wrote the music. Al Jolson (the World's Greatest Entertainer) introduced it for them. That catapulted the Gershwins to stardom. A lofty position of respect and public acclaim. From which they were able to write many other outstanding popular show tunes.
