Hello, thank you for listening to our music. I hope it gives you some joy and pleasure.
I am pleased that you have discovered our music through this medium. I view this experience as the equivalent of previewing a record in a record store in days of old. However, if you wish to experience the music in its' fullest form, I would strongly encourage you to acquire it in a physical format you can bring into your home. Not only will you then be able to experience the richest version of the music sonically, but you will also be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the tangible artwork, which was conceived in tandem with the music, and serves as a further portal to experiencing the total conceptual and spiritual and emotional content of the work we have labored, lovingly, to bring to you.
I love you,
- Michael Gira / Swans / Young God Records

Fucking wild, this stuff is going to be a decade old soon and it's (of course) classic material. The whole trilogy really, but if we're being conservative, I'd say To Be Kind and The Glowing Man are stone-cold classics and must-listen records for anyone even remotely interested in what pushing the boundary of rock music sounds like, anyone into mind expanding rock, into spiritual rock, krautrock, experimental anything, NEEDS to listen to this. You owe it to yourself. Traces of genius was already present back in 2010 with "My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky", then "The Seer" blew the lid off the whole operation. 2014 was continuous mind-blowing listens and relistens of "To Be Kind". 2016, doing it all again to even more intense levels, with "The Glowing Man". The next year "Deliquesence and one of the best live albums ever, the fact that it's debatably top 2 just in Swans' discography is crazy". And I'm still listening ~10 years on and it's still just as mind-blowing as it was the first time around. I'll be listening to these pieces of art 10 years from now, 20 years, 30 years. Guaranteed.

The atmosphere and experimentation I think. Its hard to explain, I had the exact same thoughts about it when I first heard it. It wasn't until I got really into other experimental band before I could appreciate their music. You kinda need to take in Swans songs in a different way for you to really get into it, nothing sounds quite like them and to like how dark and foreboding their melodies are in contrast with the sometimes crazy rhythms. Just approach it with an open mind and get the feel of the album. Great if you like it, but not for everyone.
@CaptainResident
@CaptainResident 4 года назад
Buildup, for me. It's got a lot of seething intensity before it just bursts into noise. The length of how things drag on is neat for me too, it's like having a favorite part of a song playing on for longer without having to go back to it. That, and it makes the aforementioned noise eruptions more satisfying.
@ExtremeTG
@ExtremeTG 4 года назад
It’s the build up. For the first 3 entire minutes it’s slowly building up to something, we know something coming but we don’t know what it is and we are patiently waiting. It’s like calm before the storm. And then when the drumming solo finally come, the the entire track flips on its head and now it’s intense as fuck. Girl humming, then it gets darker, and darker. I don’t really like the later part to where the guys going yayaya. But yea, slowly build up to intense as Fuk.

Stephen Barlow dude trust me it’s a slow build but it is life changing when you focus on it. When the final song hits you experience a new level of sonic potential. Think about it like this. The album is 2 hours and 1 minute long. You can split the album into three sections. The first hour, the second hour, and the final one minute. That final one minute, because of the 2 hours before it, is one of the most insane musical moments I’ve ever heard.
