Your RU-vid channel is wayyyyyy better than any TV show you ever did... You can tell you are so much more in your game then back in those Biker Build Off days. Love your work Brother!!!
Pretty cool! Wish I knew how you lined everything up on the frame using the table. I guess that would take up a whole video. Always liked the old Harley flat head engines.
Billy, I was in Europe in the 80s, we went on a ride to Holland. Met some guys at a bike meet there, told me they have hundreds of American military WL’s left there after Ww2, some still in the crates! Wonder if you could get in touch with someone in Holland who knows where they are…they are for sale…I was in Germany and the German government wouldn’t allow me to import one to Germany! I wanted a 45 flathead so bad! I’m gonna do some research!
Don't MOVE TO WISCONSIN Billy! You'll HATE IT! We're FINALLY Getting decent riding weather this last week into this 2023 Mother's Day weekend! May 14th 2023 still a little cool up here. I HATE SNOW ESPECIALLY IN APRIL OR MAY!
I had the privilege of flying from Cincinnati to Florida and sitting beside Billy Lane in the early 2000's. I had seen him on the biker build off's and admired his work. He was crashed out (asleep) when I got on the plane. The flight attendant woke him up to put his seat belt on and I worked up the courage to ask, "Hey are you Billy Lane?" He smiled and looked at me through all those dreds and quietly said yes. We talked all the way to Florida. Honestly one of the most down to earth people I've ever met. He ask me if I rode or if I built bikes, I guess because I knew who he was and I told him I didn't ride, that I was an electrician, but I admired craftsmanship and that's why I watched the biker build off's. He just grinned, so humble. My wife and I were going on a cruise and had to meet a bus to go to the boat when we landed. He invited us to his shop and I always regretted not being able to go see it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the cruise, but often think about the missed opportunity. Straight up genuine good person. Best wishes to him!!
I have always appreciated your immense ability to create and teach, you resurrect vintage treasures and make them new again. I can’t wait to see part 2!
Thank you for taking the time to teach us your craftsmanship!! Please keep em coming! Your videos are very insightful and helpful to garage hobbyists like myself!!
Damn Billy glad to see you again ! IMHO you have always slayed in every bike build off. I dont own a bike right now but its on the bucket list. Getting 3 kids through college and then we plan to hit the road on a bike and see everything I possibly can while able. I love your style of explaining and showing your work and progress. No need for fancy music and extra shit this is perfect. Thank you for the years of entertainment and knowledge.
I was a big fan of yours is the 90s, Im so glad you are doing these you tube tutorials, the conversational nature of your videos along with your explanations is awesome Billy, you are an encyclopedia of Motorcycle knowledge and history. Thank you for sharing your craft skill and knowledge with us. I for one really appreciate it!
Damn Billy, you are a true craftsman....I thought Keenan Tatro was good. The bike is gonna be amazing...tanks are incredible buy so far its the wheels man, love that your using modern wheels for weight relief...makes perfect sense. Can't wait for part 2!
I'm so glad that your back in front of the camera teaching like you do. You take the time to go into the details of how to properly build a machine that is rideable and safe. I wish the best for you and your family. Just keep doing what you do brother. God bless you.
Hey Billy, very happy to see you doing your thing brother. Looking good. Next time your up in Massachusetts reach out. Your welcome in my shop anytime. I'm in Mansfield, ma. Phoenix Motorcycle Works. Peace and love bro.
I would love to have the intelligence, knowledge that Billy has. This guy's phenomenal! What's really cool! He's not or doesn't seem to be the least bit arrogant. I hope I get a chance to meet him someday, he's genuine.
Badass,as always 🤘 My first car was VW beetle, back when you could get a running bug for $500,lol. Hell,I paid $300 for a '64 Impala I got running in the guy's driveway and drove home. You were ahead of the curve stashing away all this cool shit 🤘
Super stoked to see you building bikes again!! You, jesse, denver, and larry are the original seeds. Of all the builders you guys were the real deal…everybody else were just parts changers! GODSPEED BROTHER!!
I haven't seen this guy since the BS on the Discovery Channel . He's way more intelligent , interesting, and humble than they portrayed him. This is an awesome channel.
I'm 43 now, this guy was a huge inspiration for me 20 years ago when Billy's name was one of the biggest around next to Larry and Russell during the Chopper era, fucking legend and icon 🤘⚡. I also now appreciate the older FH's, especially the "R's". 20 years later, still a huge influence on me and a level of talent I want to someday achieve.
I’m betting you recorded this on April 09, 2022. The reason I say that is it just randomly started snowing the same way over here in Knoxville on that day. I know you aren’t too far away there in middle Tennessee. It was very weird, but cool to see! 🌨️💪🏻🤙🏼
Billy your the shit my guy you and Jesse both I’ve learnt so much from you both the last ten fifteen years I couldn’t believe thank you guys 🤘🏻💯🤘🏻the last of real men
I liked them brass bar clamps, looked the Era. The brazing finished much cleaner. The fittment brings rigidity. Them low hung bars are one of a kind. Clean. Whoever stamped them tanks out,got it working flawless.
Yo! Bill I'm a full time single dad Work! pick her up from rugby practice make her dinner, then her lunch for the next day than bed! lol I have Saturdays to myself but!! '' THESE DAMN! YUPPIES! AN PART HOARDERS! (an what I mean about part hoarders, not a guy getting a good deal on parts an he gets them to help him or his buddies bikes out or the local Indian club out!, NOPE!! he buys it all just to sit on it for 5 years for the money not the love of these kinetic art pieces!) an this straight piece of gooch! cheese!. Prices me an the other normal guys who love this stuff!!. Completely out of sons of speed era bikes! an the ability to get into those races!(to be honest a pickle sand which in this economy prices me out also! lol). So somethings got to be done maybe a single cylinder ERA!! race for guys like us. doesn't matter what make as long as its under a certain cc an it looks like a period correct. like stretching an lowering some beach cruisers an put a 250cc single cylinder honda in it but it has to look like a 30s bike an no electronics etc. Something like that I'm just spit balling talking out loud but winters are long an if I loose out one more bid on parts to a P.O.S. yuppie bragging he's gonna sit on these for 4-5 years to re-sell. I'm gonna Bonk him in the head. an THE DAY HE WAKES UP FROM HIS COMA!!! Hopefully that's the day I'm getting released an guess what? I'll sneak into the hospital!, an CRACK HIM IN THE HEAD AGAIN! because I'm stupid an I WONNA BUILD A BIKE!. (on a side note maybe don't advertise the third time he will be waking up again!.). lol rant over!!.But I'm serious we got to figure something out I live way! up North here in CANADA there's only 4 single women in my tiny town! seriously. One's My daughters mom!, ones her best friend, 3rd ones gay!, an the fourth ones my cousin! (hasn't got that bad! YET!) Oh yeah the 2nd one whos my ex best friend she don't like me because I wouldn't leave my ex for her! .l.o.l. an their still best friends hehe!. But yeah help a brother out billy!!. lol
Well long-lost brother, my unpredictable pitbull hates bikes so I wasn't able to try to talk to you. Not that it even WAS you, just some cool dude in Nor*Cal with an understatedly cool scoot (and you're outta FL I guess,). So I'll keep dreaming celebrities want to meet me, hahaha! Hope everything is cool, I really appreciate you working on a 45 for all use other low-rent losers!
Another rad video explaining everything clearly your experience shines through as you do these various subtle changes on these bikes . I’m officially hooked on this channel man love it ! Thanks Billy !
I would love to watch more of your brazing techniques. Unfortunately my days of MiG, TiG and ARC welding are over due to a defibrillator installed in my chest. Now I would love to teach my oldest to weld but can only resort to the good old oxyacetylene days. Especially with the restoration of the Plymouth Duster he will eventually receive after he gets his license.
Snow in April? Are you in Buffalo NY? I drove truck at night and saw it snow-May 22nd! I was screaming at my windshield. I spent a good portion of the night outside. That was in Mt Jewett PA. I moved to Arizona. Much better.
Nice job on the frame probably in 1983 I bought a VL frame for $60 at a swap meet and I put a 93 inch shovel head and it me and my brother I still have the Bike
One Lane to another we use to buy knuckles in baskets that ole boy took apart to have never start. Lanes fix broken its in our DNA .. Keep the imagination and seeing junk as what it will be. Will is a Irish word for never quit... But you knew that I'm Burlow Lane...
Soothing to see old Bridgeport and other Jewel's being used. Before computers it was a Art Vertical and Horizontal great machines still producing great content and history.
Just for reference I am hoping that you used non chlorinated brake clean before you welded, if you use chlorinated brake clean and weld you have the possibility of creating phosgene gas (friendly observation from a welder)
It's so good to see you again last time I saw you you was on the biker Build-Off show you and Indian Larry was my favorite two people that I like to see on that show I'm glad I found you on RU-vid sometimes life won't let me watch everything I'd like to but I'll try to make sure I see every one of your things you put up take care good seeing you again
I wanna thank you for this i have servicar frame /rear was gonna do c cab but now going diff way was looking at the frame and was like i can htail this im sure....i looked all over internet couldnt find anyninfo then was just chilling out the other night and blam this video pops up ty only prob is i wanna four speed so was looking at the paughco 45 frame
Hey Billy, been watching and enjoying your builds for years, this might be something you need to check out- I've seen some dudes on RU-vid saying that there is some kind of nasty chemical reaction when you use brake cleaner for tig weld prep, might be worth looking into, Me and a lot of other bros want to see you around for a long time and a lot more builds.
I might get beat up on the comments for this but i don't care billy larry and jessy have the cleanest bikes i know they're others or there but i like there style
Who makes those tanks? CCI? I got a set from them for my '36 Knuck, so I could run a tank shift. Im building a rigid frame Evo Sportster using a mill out of a Buell. And I think the tanks from a 45" flattie will work out best ( gas & oil in the tanks) and I can use a dummy oil tank to enclose my electric's, breakers etc. Wish you had the Sons of Speed races going when I lived in Fl. I woulda done that in a min! My '36 EL WAS SET UP FOR RACING! Lightning gear set, modified linkert, no led valves etc.
I’ve always enjoyed watching you build bikes from the ground up and now enjoying watching you resurrect bikes from the pass. Glad to see your still totally involved in your trade. Keep ‘em coming!!!
