I had some free time on my hands and these pencils came in the big brown truck, so I decided to get them out and play! The swatch chart is by MysticSparkleWings, and because they have explicitly asked that I DO NOT redistribute it and I cannot find an email address to ask for that permission, I'm not going to link it here. You can search for this brilliant artist on Google, however, and find it. (Check out the awesome art, too!)

The artist who created the chart is MysticSparkleWings. The hole punch I used cut out the first part of the name. 🤦‍♀️ If you've been looking, that info will likely help. Haha. Sorry!

hi Erin, Jaipur is a place in India which is often called the pink city, because of the colour of many of its buildings :) you were saying it pretty much spot on.

Thanks for Sharing this video. I purchased this set and ended up giving them to my granddaughter they were a bit too scratchy for me and I never used them after coloring a page with them. I actually look back at the pictures that I used them on and think how long it took me to complete it. I really had to work with these pencils. But they are a good budget friendly set to have that offers a lot of shades. I have lots of sets that range from Holbein to crayola brand and I must say the Arteza pencils are really really nice and they lay down nicely. I use them a lot on books with cheap paper so I don’t eat up my $$$ones. I hope to see more videos from you...take care and stay safe!

I agree! They are a bit scratcher than a premium pencil, but for what they are, they're nice. And I also use cheaper pencils on the horrid paper. Twistables work well, I think. There's so much wax that when you lay it down and go over it with some OMS, it looks almost like paint. I'll do a page with them at some point and see how they go. Thank you!

You’re back, yay! I would be very interested in seeing you color a picture with the castle art pencils. I do have them and I find myself not using them as often as I want to because of the concerns you mentioned about not being able to purchase open stock. I did hear that Arteza was seriously considering selling open stock. You are right in predicting that will be a game changer.

Thanks for doing this Erin! I do like listening to swatches as I color haha so hopefully I’m not alone! These pencils are super pretty and I love the pinks and purples they are definitely going on my wish list! I’m with you about moderately priced companies selling open stock I would be much more inclined to purchase if they did that. Thanks again and take care!

I just got these yesterday, and my set came with a swatch chart to fill in. Edit to add: The order they're in the case was so so. Colors together in groups, kind of. But not ALL the colors of a particular color were together. I too had to reorganize them right away, lol.

These look like they could be a nice addition to my Polychromos. I feel like they are missing some of the light shades and I have no interest in getting another expensive set (or the money to, really) and don't want to mix colours. I was thinking about Arteza but they seem to wear down quickly and when you can't buy open stock replacements that is a problem. Plus I just saw these WITH a pencil case for the same price as the ones with the box and trays. I think I might have to go for it.

I have the 120 set before they put the names on. I use them mixed with both the Polychromo and Prisma and they play nice with both of them.

Pretty colors....what am I working on, you ask? Well...my hubby being disabled has had multiple injuries since September....I have had multiple images started and almost, but not quite finished....so.... I am now trying to finish up as many of them as I can....and I did enjoyed your silent coloring video.

I really appreciate this, I have a smaller set and REALLY wanted the 120 set, just have been burned before on large sets. Nice to know what I would be getting, which ones are scratchy, etc. 😊👍👌

I just got these. There is one black called an Ivory Black and it takes many layers to get it dark

Check out Coloring Bliss. com. They have free swatch download of 150 page. Also a variety of swatch books for purchase on media specific paper. Very good you tube channel as well.

That weird mauve is akin to the green black widow pencil being named sapphire. Its a shame about that mauve placement though, as I love that colour.

All the colors are true. I have oil painted for over 50 years so take my word or don't. And then you have Cobalt Purple (true) then "Dioxazine Purple" is the next purple. The Aubergine (eggplant) is an excellent match to eggplant veg. also, don't compare these to the cheap Crayola pencils. Castle uses far superior pigments. I also use Prismacolor but I love having these extra different pencils and colors. Also Alizarin is pronounced "Uh-LIZ-uhrin". You pronounced Jaipur right. It is an Oriental Indian word. The colors are a perfect match to their name.

Hi! Thank you for the review and for your time! You are great! I I'm gonna buy my first professional box of colored pencils and they're really expensive in Brazil ( minimun monthly wage expensive) it's a big dream for me but it may be a long time after I can afford another one... because it's so much money So I'm asking for opinions...Could you help me please? I'm split between prismacolor collen and castle arts( polys are out of the question expensive)... Which ones would you recomend for a first timer? Thank you so much!!

Castle Art are a British company. And that's definitely mauve colour in the UK.

Did any of these pencils come with deformities? I expect that these are the exactbsame pencils as Cool Bank, Orion Star, Norberg & Linden etc. just privately labeled for different companies, and i've gotten some wonky pencils in those brands. Like indents in the wood or bumps, stuff like that.

They are not the same. Castle Arts is a british brand the rest are chinese. The pencils are different.

I just got this set yesterday. I have one flawed pencil. It has a chunk out of the wood near the tip. Not sure what will happen when I sharpen it, but I believe it is still usable.

It's tracing paper with Washi around the edges to keep it from wrinkling up. 💜

How do these pencils compare to Prismacolors?

These aren't as soft as a Prismacolor, but the pigment is definitely there. You won't get as many layers and blending them takes more work, but it's totally doable. I'll be using them to color a page in about a week, so I'll be able to give a better opinion of them at that point. Thanks for watching!

How do you know what order to swatch?

In this case, the little sheet that came with the pencils had all the colors in spectrum order, so that made it easy. Sometimes I gave to separate by color family and just scribble a bit on scrap paper to figure out how to swatch them.
