Hey guys! In this video I unbox and review my newest addition to my timepiece collection : the Swatch Clearly Gent Watch!
But first a little bit about Swatch ...
Swatch is a Swiss watchmaker founded in 1983. It is a subsidiary of The Swatch Group. The Swatch product line was developed as a response to the “quartz crisis” of the 70s and 80s. Rumor has it that the name Swatch is a contraction of “second watch”, as the watches were intended as casual, disposable accessories.

I still have my original 1985 Jellyfish Swatch from high school lol.. Granted its highly oxidized (after what 39 years) and doesnt work any longer, I just can not get rid of it. Was the first watch I purchased myself (to go with my Bugle Boy slacks rolled up at the bottom and Coca Cola sweatshirt)...those were the days

It’s on my list. But I wonder how the case and strap is going to react to uv light from the sun. I’m afraid the watch is going to turn yellowish within a year or two.

Nice video, thanks for the review. Risking sounding like a tool, but to hell with it: 3AM WR doesn't really mean you can go 30m deep in the water with it. Producers frequently void warranties in case of water damage for 3AM WR (read the fine print). It does sound like it and it can get confusing, but the WR tests done on watches are done in quite perfect conditions - it can handle 3AM of pressure in those conditions. This is not the same as swimming or snorkeling without a specific time limit - those are chaotic conditions and the watches safety is not guaranteed. This watch is intended for handwashing at best if you expect it to work for some time. Counterpoint: yes, people swim with cheap Swatches, same as cheap Casios, but it's a game of roulette if it will survive and for how long. I guess that's fine since the watches are cheap and easily replaceable, just wanted to clear this up a bit. My statement, unfortunately, is from experiences with Swatches and Casios I tested myself during life - most models can't handle much, if any water, especially for more that 5 minutes.

I'm old enough to remember when they came in. They came in at a point where everyone was wearing digital watches, and everyone went crazy for these colourful plastic analogue watches. I've had at least one classic 34mm Swatch since the 80s to now and I currently have 3 working ones. You made the right choice, the original 34mm size is perfect :) the true Swatch.

30 meters doesn't mean that you can go 30 meters into the water with the watch. It means that you can wear it washing your hand. But DON'T wear it in the water.

yeah its pretty confusing isnt it? think of it like it can handle 30m of water pressure, but if you’re moving your hand forcefully through a pool during a swim stroke, even tho you are nowhere near 30m underwater you may be exerting that pressure

@@sumbohdee2luv My father once bought a watch for swimming in the sea for his vacation. Afterwards he returned the watch to the shop. Full of water. The shopowner had to explain to him what 30 meters actually means. He should have bought one that was at least 100 meters waterproof.

Exactly! At 100m water resistant, there is no problem for a complete water immersion. At 30m, not recommended at all !!!

From a watch person’s perspective, or a watch collector/horologist, they are junk. What determines Swatch to be junk is not the initial price, but Swatch’s own design and intention for the watch. They were designed to be either thrown away (they are not repairable) or simply collected like baseball cards. That was exactly the stated design consideration of the Swatch group upon their creation…basically a trendy fashion statement with not only disposability, but required disposability since they are not constructed to allow repairs, therefore pure JUNK, or bad investment.
