I don’t understand why you care, it absolutely does not diminish Omega, if anything it promotes Omega to people who otherwise wouldn’t have a clue what Omega is, and if you don’t like it don’t buy it move on. It’s marketing genius from a company that arguably saved the Swiss watch industry from oblivion buy selling low quality disposable plastic watches, good on them hope they sell millions and everyone one of them pisses off so call “enthusiasts”.
The thing i dont understand is that we as watch collectors should be happy people are saying in lines for hours outside shops to buy these instead of digital watchs? I dont get the issue? Not everyone can spend 5k+ for a speedmaster ... this seems so petty. The Omega brand is not tarnished by this we all know its not an omega if anything you buy one of these as a young kid or yound adult and then you say " one day ill get a real one "
I would have to check , but I think they are much more than $5,000 USD , they are $13,000 AUD atm . I am guessing they are about $8,000 USD atm . Not cheap. I love the white version but.
@@e28forever30 1. Not sure if sarcasm but here we go. Digital watches are currently the most sold watches on the market. We dont need analogue watches anymore we have phones and digital watches, thus the watch collecting market as well as the luxury watch market is always under the constant threat that at some point people will stop buying these less modern watch as they have not really changed in over 120+ years? Simply put any exposure to coventional time keeping and especially in making young people interested is fantastic but I dont really understand why I'm even having to explain this. 2) No is one making you buy the watch? Because the watch is a " cash grab " means we need to throw shade on a 275 euro watch? A lot of people like them, People that before would have never purchased a watch like this and instead opted for a digital watch. Some of these people will now delve in the rabbit hole that is watch collecting and mechanical watches and its great for the space. These type of comments are also one of the reasons a lot of people dont enter the watch community because of the constant snobery and pedantic way they are talked to if they like somehting considered a " cash grab ". (not saying you did this) It is however one of the reasons a lot of people do not enter the space.
Love or loath them, you can’t deny that the MoonSwatch has helped protect the watch making industry against the threat of the smartwatch long-term. It’s brought a whole new generation of watch enthusiasts to the fore. Anecdotically I’d also suggest it’s helped lead into the increased sales of true mechanical watches.
I wouldn't say long term ... And if there are as many issues, QC, quality, inability to repair etc., with these as has been reported won't that turn people off of these types of mid-range watches? And potentially off of Swatch group products in general? Not saying it will happen but it is a possibility. Don't forget most people are buying these on hype not watch (specs, movement etc.) knowledge
I think most here can agree on a few points: 1) the moonswatches are polarizing. People either love or hate them. 2) Swatch is making a mint on them or else they wouldn't keep making them. 3) Swatch watches were always inexpensive, plasticky, often disposable but fun - which this is. 4) the controversy here is the Omega (part of Swatch group) tie in that has boosted the price and hype and expectations (rightly or wrongly) of what should have been a normal Swatch priced product. 5) if this had been a strictly Swatch watch using this design (same design, material and movement - heck even still calling it a Moonswatch) but without the Omega and Speedmaster name or tie in at a normal Swatch price then there would be little to no controversey ... But also probably less interest in the watch as well.
My progression of interest in the MoonSwatch: - See announcement that there will be a collaboration between Swatch and the Omega Speedmaster - Cool! I need to check these out! - Discover that they are made of plastic - Interest level decreases slightly, but should have known since it is Swatch after all. - $250!!!!! - Are you kidding me?! Okay, I can wait and see if I can pick up one on the grey market for half the price. - See all the hype, mass hysteria and eBay scalper prices on release day - Interest level drops to near zero! - See eventual RU-vid reviews and discover they are only being sold at full retail thru Swatch stores - NOPE! All interest abated! - Bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot - Happy!
Eh. I would never buy one, but I don’t dislike them. I draw the line at counterfeit watches, but other than that, to each their own. It’s their money they are throwing away. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for your passionate thoughts though. 👍🏼
You wanna know who asked for these? I did haha! I wanted a mission on earth, but the original color was ugly to me. Swatch somehow Managed to get me to buy another 2 more watches, and I only really wanted the Lava so they got a bonus! I now have the black and white snoopy, the neptune, the moon, and lava and polar lights
if (or when) Swatch will add their SwatchPay function to any of Moonswatches I'm gonna grab it straight away. Why? Because it will be one of the best value-for-money watches in the world
Just out of curiosity what would you consider the right price? I considered them when the news about them first broke. However, the bad reviews, QC (bleeding colors on some), quality (according to reviewers cheap feel and inability to repair), high price and other issues like lack of online sales have put me off. I got a Bulova Lunar Pilot instead.
@@karlsenula9495 Honestly, probably around $150. That's what my solar Bluetooth Casioak cost, and it has greater functionality. But given the styling and luxury watch association of the MoonSwatch, I think it would balance out at that price point for me. But the value of any commodity is what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm guessing there will be many who would pay the asking price and then some.
If they weren’t selling, there wouldn’t be scalpers. It’s a self correcting problem. The irony is that 99% of the hype these people are complaining about online is literally from people complaining online. Ignore it and it will go away… but then you couldn’t milk it for clicks.
Tell us how you really feel! Ha! My opinion mirrors yours. Overpriced poor quality but they will sell alot of them. Maybe anything rather than an Apple watch is a step in the right direction? Keep up the great work!
I enjoyed that , you didn’t hold back , Omega won’t be sending you anything free now ! When reviewers pan watches occasionally it gives them credibility as too many average watches get good reviews . Thank you .
Olivier I think if younger people who are starting the hobby of watches might want to see the movie Appolo 13 and may have a different perception of the Omega Moonswatch. Honestly I have no issue with an homage watch. This enables more people to enjoy and share our love for watches. The fact that Swatch is making a cheap homage of one it own companies is disappointing. As many people and yourself have already pointed out you can get a Pagani, Seiko and other Chronographs with significantly better quality than a Swatch at a better price.
And that would be wonderful! On my review on the MoonSwatch I stated that according to me this was an awful but important release because it would bring new people into the hobby. But a this point after so many cash grabbing releases the Swatch Group are really shooting themselves in the foot, degrading both brands at this point, especially good old Omega. It's not even the Homage thing that bothers me
@@Horologique 100% agree. It’s a cash grab on the part of Swatch. I think what’s personally disappointing is that as a watch enthusiast you have a parent company capitalizing on the homage of watch of such of notable distinction of being the first watch to the moon. I see the Omega moonwatch as “holy grail” of the watch world due to its storied history.
I'm not a big fan of these Moon Swatch models and a GA 2100 can definitely outperform them for a lesser cost in my opinion. If I ever want a Blancpain, I'll go for the 50 Fathoms itself if I have the budget for it.
The fact that they won't sell them online is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. They could sell double what they have but for some reason they want to be ignorant and stingy. Not everyone lives close to a Swatch store. You can buy any watch online. ANY watch.
All these toys do is create false hype and is in my opinion a publicity stunt for OMEGA who will be the timing sponsor for the Olympic Games swimming events in about 68 days time. No one will be able to buy one except flipper's and any serious horologist will give them a wide berth and see these as arcade toys. That said , however I do like the real new white Dial Speedmaster , but it has an asking price of $13,000 AUD and that would entail spending the kids inheritance as they say here in Australia.....lolol
These watches are cheap looking, they look like cheap plastic that has been sprayed painted with leftover or returned paint from your local hardware store.
Tried them on finally in Tokyo a few months ago and they are truly light, plasticky and cheap feeling. Lost my interest at the store. Agree with "a thousand ways to better spend your money..." on other watches.
Thank you for sharing. These do absolutely nothing for me to be honest. I rather buy any of the Speedy Homages by Pagani Design or now the new Addiesdive. These have much much better specs and are a far better value for money.
Because it's a Swatch. Since the 80's they've always been plastic. Making a steel watch would be seriously out of character for them. Plus, if you want a steel version, just buy Omega.
That assumes the value/hype holds over time, that Swatch don't keep producing them for 10 years and over saturate the market, that enough break that the remaining ones locked up in cases or vaults and never worn will become rarer. A lot of 'ifs' there.
Ugh! All utterly hideous! A Pagani is 100 times the watch for a third of the price.. it isn’t often one can say that, but here we are. And people will still buy these godawful piles of junk. I enjoy your disdain much more than I would ever enjoy one of these monstrosities!
Thanks Olivier, i will never buy moonswatch. I can have much better and durable for the same price... This greedy marketing behaviour will finish to destroy omega excellence reputation and it will be hard to get it back. Real Omega fans and collectors will runaway from this brand!😊
