Thank you for the review of these. I haven't seen the M. Graham acrylics come up on the other channels I watch. I was given a tube of the Indian Yellow at my local art store yesterday and I'm trying to decide whether to start getting into acrylics now or give the tube away. 😅

LOL 🤣 maybe try our acrylics? If you want to get in for a low investment just to try acrylics, I recommend value sets or sample sets ( other brands like golden or liquitex, as MGraham doesn't really have sample sets. ) And try to use coupons or sales where you can. Also, the Winsor Newton galleria acrylics are a great way to try acrylics affordable, they are student grade but reliable quality, and I think a step above the rest in student quality.

Thank you! So interesting! Interesting how the same pigment look different in watercolor and acrylics. However, I was a little bit disappointed and Quin rose. It is my favorite cornrows and watercolors. But in this video, it look more like Quin Red. Not sure if it was just my screen.

Thanks so much for watching. It maybe your screen however I do think acrylic quin rose is more close to quin red. M grahams quin rose is my favorite watercolor rose too !

Nice review - or basic information to start. How specific paint handle is so important to the individual artist. There are many brands out there - especially if you include budget brands. Good information on how specific brands handle - open time, blending, viscosity ...it's critical information for artists - so thanks for this post!👍

Great demo. Thanks a lot. I use M Graham, but your demo showed some colors I haven't sampled. I like their Azo Yello, Ultramarine Blue and Pyrrole Red, because they give you results (because of their pigment load) comparable to more expensive Cadmiums and Cobalts.

I'm so glad that I could help! Thank you for watching. This is why I do swatch videos because I know how difficult it is picking colors through a computer screen. Especially if you don't have access to a local art store.

@@nicolemartinart5819 I'm sure the colors aren't absolutely the same color, but the best thing about your swatching for me is seeing how transparent/opaque the paint is. Thanks again.

The consistency seems similar to OPEN Acrylics by Golden.

I looked at your video again because I want to glaze. Do you recommend any particular glazing medium for acrylic?
@nicolemartinart5819
@nicolemartinart5819 10 месяцев назад
Yes, I prefer the golden gloss glazing liquid. #1 because it has a tiny bit of retarder in it, this enables you to blend your glazed out unlike the liquitex which dries almost immediately and I find i don't have enough open working time to achieve the results i want. #2 make sure you get GLOSS glazing, regardless of what brand because if it's satin, it contains a bit of mattifying powder which will cloud over and milky the glaze. Not only does this render it no longer a true glaze by very definition (glazes are transparent veils)but it looks awful, especially if you like to build up many layers. If you want a satin finish you can always go over with a coat or two of satin varnish at the end to unify everything but never work with satin glazes and never use satin or matte anything over darks because it will easily go chalky and you'll lose your darkest values. In general I only recommend gloss varnish and definitely gloss glazing liquid, this will allow for the widest range of tonal values to be achieved, which is always what you want in good strong artwork. Hope this helped 😊

@@nicolemartinart5819 Of COURSE it helps. It's obvious that you know the tools of your trade better than any acrylic artist I've seen online. I saw on Instagram that it's hard to tell that some of your acrylic paintings aren't oils. Wish I could find.a teacher like you.

For the price of a single 59mL Golden HB tube I can get two of these! It is very modest in pigment load* and pricing. Humble brand yet very capable. I found their acrylics to have a great coverage and suits my style of painting. *Pigment load has maximum saturation per color. If this is reached, adding more pigments is theoretically impossible without compromising paint durability.

I wonder how the M Graham Acrylics compare to Sennelier Acrylics. A lot of people liken the Sennelier to oil paints.
@nicolemartinart5819
@nicolemartinart5819 Год назад
That's a great question. I had considered trying the sennelier acrylics too. Maybe I'll pick up a small trial set for Christmas just so I can review them on the channel

My top favorite are Golden, Matisse structure( I have a review of your interested with swatches) and Winsor Newton.( I have a review coming soon) I do not like liquitex! They are too crumbly like cottage cheese ( some, as the textures are very inconsistent.) But they work well for impasto style or palette knife paintings.

@@nicolemartinart5819I haven’t had problems with Liquitex before but I generally use their soft body acrylics. Are you speaking about their heavy body acrylics? Thanks.
