That's strange Nadine. I have just checked on Jackson's website and can't find them either? A few people have mentioned experiencing similar separation issues that I had with the yellow and orange tubes so maybe that has something to do with their disappearance?
I love the idea of making a granulating mixing palette, that was actually my first thought when I saw Schminckes new single pigment super granulating PY159 and PR108. I immediately planed out a mixing palette but chickened out from buying the components. I don't paint much yet so I couldn't justify the expense. I was thinking of putting together PV49 (and cheating by adding some PV19/PR122), PV16, PR233, PR108, PBr33, PY159, PB29, PB74, PG50/28, PG18 and maybe sodalite/PBk11 a cobalt green or Cerulean blue or manganese blue from ProdigalSons...maybe try out buff titanium. I can't wait to see what you may put together :)
Hi Linda! I have roughed out a few ideas for a mixing palette but am still thinking about it at the moment as like you say, it could be quite expensive! Love your ideas though and I've not heard of ProdigalSons before so will have a look at them too! Take care 😊
I have the exact same problem with the yellow and orange. I was so disappointed because I was especially exited to get a granulating yellow. I never had this problem with any Schmincke paints.
It's interesting that you've had the same issue .. I think I'll try squeezing some of the tube paint into half pans and stirring it with a cocktail stick. Hopefully it should mix better that way 😊
Although this set is super pretty I do think it is not a main pallete and is for people who want more paint since it lacks a good primary blue. Your vid was amazing like always.
Wonderful video! You have a true knack for creating lovely videos! I have experienced paint separation from binder in the tube, I have found limited success rolling the crimp on the bottom and massaging the tube mixing the contents inside the tube. If you have to squeeze out the entire tube onto a sheet of glass or porcelain palette using a palette knife to mix it up is your other choice. TMI Warning: I hope you do mix your own granulated palette! I started with mixing commercial brands with each other for my own “custom color” It was not enough for me, so I purchased pigment, gum Arabic a plate and mall. I caution you that I rather stopped painting pictures for about a year trying to create the perfect paints! It is a completely different artistic endeavor and no real artwork for your efforts in the end. You still have to apply your paint to paper to have a product you can sell! Now Etsy and online selling did not exist when I got involved with paint making. So I have seen sellers of handmade paints but I think I have had enough of them for myself. Using the triple milled paints from DaVinci or Schmincke or any other professionally made paints are good enough for me. I will say that this separation issue is one of the reasons why I will NEVER BUY DANIEL SMITH paint ever again! I kept getting the runaround, the seller said not our fault contact manufacturer, DS said no contact reseller for refund or replacement! I never got satisfaction for defective paint. The Dan Smith corporation was arrogant and rude, dismissive and not even a little helpful! I hope nobody else has been treated like that but I have heard other stories and it was not an isolated event. Sorry for going on this rant. I hope you do create your own granulating palette and mix up your own versions and show us your results! Please take care and ignore me if you want to enjoy your day!
So glad you liked the video! I might try massaging the tube as you suggested or failing that, squeezing the separated paints into half pans and stirring with a cocktail stick to remix them. I have thought about trying to make my own paints before too and even got as far as researching pigments and equipment but it looked like a lot of work and there are already so many people on Etsy already doing it that I decided against it in the end. All I really want to do is paint anyway so I'll leave it to the experts -for now at least. Take care and have a great weekend! 😊
@@SarahNewburyArt It is a TON of work! I had the best luck squeezing out the whole tube using the palette knife to mix it up again and put into pans. 1 tube would not remix and that is what started my troubles with DS.
After having a Winsor & Newton Raw Sienna with huge binder separation issues, I now shake all the tubes vigorously, if a new tube, or massage it if it's already been used a bit so there is more room to squish the paint around. If a new tube, I'll add a step of using a cake tester with a long metal spine to stir the paint in the tube after I uncap it. I only paint from pans that have been poured from tubes, so this isn't too much trouble for me. After doing these steps, I've no longer had separation issues, including all my Daniel Smith colors.
I’m also planning to put together a palette with granulating colours. I’ll probably buy the Volcano Yellow and Red for that and use other colours I’ve already got. It might not give the same mixes but is a bit more versatile in the long run, in my opinion.
That's good to hear Brigitte. I think it will be extremely versatile too -and more economical in the long run? I have a feeling that Schmincke may well take this approach of using a couple of single pigment colours to mix a whole new series of colours in future releases? It could get very expensive!
@@SarahNewburyArt Yes, they seem to be moving on from the trend of single pigment colours to great mixes. Too much for our wallets I think so we have to (try to) be sensible 😁
Great video, thanks Sarah. The separation in the tubes was disappointing, especially when considering how expensive these paints are, I’ve got shire and tundra and have not found this, perhaps an email to manufacturer would be an idea. Your palette is exactly what I’ve been looking for to put gouache in, can you remember where you got it please
Thank you Lesley, that's a good idea. Interestingly, the volcano set is not now listed on Jackson's website either? The palette was from Amazon and I'll put a link below 😊 : www.amazon.co.uk/MEEDEN-Porcelain-Palette-Painting-Watercolor/dp/B0914PLC7L/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2DJLH3EDF7GOM&keywords=porcelain+palette+with+lid&qid=1647352828&sprefix=porcelain+palette+with+lid%2Caps%2C62&sr=8-12
Hi Gill! The little porcelain palette was from Amazon.. I'll try and put a link: 😊💜 www.amazon.co.uk/MEEDEN-Porcelain-Palette-Painting-Watercolor/dp/B0914PLC7L/ref=sr_1_11?crid=2T1AI5IEDCUIR&keywords=porcelain+palette+with+lid&qid=1647030133&sprefix=porcelain+palette%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-11
