Why? He’s swearing allegiance to the Queen of Grenada, no one else. We chose her to become our head of state upon independence, it’s what everyone supported; GULP, GNP, even the communists in the NJM supported the Queen remaining our head of state. The monarchy allows us to have a nonpartisan officer at the top of the government system, who keeps the government of the day in check. A republic would just mean a politician getting the top job, and being a puppet of the government of the day, bending to their every whim. They’d be divisive. Hell, under a future NNP government we’d probably see Dodgy Doc Keith given the presidency. Retaining the monarchy makes us part of an important family of nations

Also remember, in 2016 Grenadians voted against changing the oath of allegiance. It was one of the 7 proposed amendments, together with joining the CCJ
