Aluminum oxide is a chemical compound of aluminum and oxygen. It is a white, odorless, crystalline powder with a sand-like consistency.
It is used in polishing and abrasive applications and in the production of ceramics and metals. The majority of aluminum oxide is used in the production of aluminum.
Because of its inert quality, aluminum oxide is often used as a filler in plastics, as well as sunscreen and various make-up products.
There is one characteristic of aluminum oxide powder that makes the screening of it problematic. The powder tends to agglomerate making it difficult to screen at high capacities.
The customer wanted to increase their capacity of a competitor’s system by more than 3,000%. As can be seen on the video, using a Low Profile Separator, the agglomerates will not go through the screen immediately. This negatively effects the throughput of the machine. Even though our process increased the current capacity by over 800%, it wasn’t enough for what the customer requested.
However, there’s more than one way to screen a powder. We switched gears and began testing with a SWECO CS6 Centrifugal Sifter. This screening process was able to increase the customer’s capacity by nearly 4,500%.
SWECO has a wide range of separation equipment. So, if one technology doesn’t produce the desired results, we just keep on trying.
