Well done! You ate the surströmming and liked it. 🙋♀️ I love surströmming but I only eat it about once a year. On an outside party together with friends and family! And then we eat i the proper way! Not plain as you did! 😋 Cleaned from bones, cut into peaces, rolled into a soft flatbread together with fresh potatoes and buttercooked finely chopped onion. Yummie. And a beer, snaps and songs with it! 😁🎶😎
Most tourists don't know how to eat surströmming. You're not supposed to eat the entire fish, rather, you open it up and remove the meat and eat only the filet. Neither do you ever eat it by itself. Swedes eat surströmming with potatoes, onions, sour cream etc, also often combined with a thin bread. A piece of advice when opening a can is to open it in a bucket of water, since that will absorb the smell, but of course you need to experience the smell the first time. :) It really does taste like very salty fish, and the flavor is much different from the smell.
HOLY SHIT THOSE PRICES OF THE BURGERS! x_x Yes Nordic people love licorice. I hate it. But we also love salt and that I do. Damn just chomps on that surströmming, impressive. But yeah you're suppose to eat it with other stuff.
im a Swed and i have never tried that disgusting fish Surströmming in my entire life and most sweds do not eat it, prolly max 1 % does. just the smell alone makes me puke.
You are brave but you should not just eat surströmming at least eat with some bread. The fish taste good but the smell not, if you can get pass the smell is ok.
