It's almost scary how Russia has been able to convince all its supporters that willingly joining an alliance is "imperialism", but that invading another country with one of your several justifications being that it used to be part of your empire is not imperialism. What's more ironic is that if you look at Western politics, it's those who are more lenient on past colonialism that are more likely to support Russia.

Russia didn’t invade Ukraine just for it to be a part of our “empire” considering all the easily predictable sanctions and negative reaction from the world, that would be just stupid. Putin ain’t a fool, and he (not only himself, but the majority of Russian people) has more actual purposes when you might think: The root of the conflict is that Ukraine has two different sides : On the East, it’s mostly Russians, who speak Russian, have the same religion, etc. On the West there are actual Ukrainians, who never wanted to be a part of Russia and still don’t. The problem is that the western Ukrainians have been really radical and very racist towards the ones in the East. The destructive anti-Russian process inside the country, sponsored by CIA and co., eventually led to the bloody revolution in Kyiv in 2014. Also that year a dozen of pro-Russian Protestants were brutally killed (burned alive in a building) by rye western Ukrainian radicals in Odessa. As a reply, in 2014 Russian population of Crimea (the majority of it aren’t Ukrainians) voted a referendum to join Russia. “Annexation” is just a down fucking bad lie of NATO’s propaganda. Also in 2014 Eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Lugansk declared independence from the “new” Ukraine - the Ukraine ruled by radicals. As a result, Kyiv started a war against its own people, with brutal bombings of civilians and unbelievable war crimes. Ain’t blame you, your media just never tell the truth. Then in 2022 the bombings of D. and L. started again, and our intelligence found out that they plan to invade D. and L. and end the pro-Russian states once and for all. This, together with Ukraine’s increasing military cooperation with NATO (our enemies) was the trigger for Putin to start the war. 2. Now onto why NATO is an enemy in the 1st place. Sure we could be friends, right? No - says NATO. I recommend you to watch the Putin interview. So many times we tried to cooperate with NATO, build security bases tougher, came up with ideas, etc. And what did we get in return. Your government sponsored terrorist in Caucasia on our territory, expanded NATO all the way to our boarders, but didn’t want us ourselves to join. Why? Because all u do to us - is lie. NATO always was against us, even when they pretended they didn’t. They say they want Russia to be “freed” from Putin’s “regime” (he’s the leader we elected democratically), bring us “democracy”. Don’t you know the “democracy” and “freedom” memes yourself? Yes, that’s true - NATO always wanted to destroy Russia, makes us poor like u did with Iraq, and the shamelessly steal our oil and gas. Well Gotland is not far from Kaliningrad so we have a border to Russia, and that island has been russias target for decades. If we still had the military we had in the 70's and 80's we maybe could have stayed neutral but today russia could have taking Gotland in a day. Armenia wouldn’t be allowed to join since it still has disputes with Azerbaijan. Plus it’s not in the north Atlantic it’s majority in Asia and doesn’t have a coastline with the North Atlantic not even through the black sea or Mediterranean see Moldova could possibly join in the future because once Ukraine kicks Russia out Russia will likely be forced to leave Transnistria thus ending the dispute, and Moldova will likely re-join Romania this would also likely allow Georgia to join as well since Russia would likely be forced to pull out of there, too Bosnia still has disputes with Serbia so until Serbia is dealt with they will not be able to join
