Sweden, known for its rich history, deep-rooted traditions, and stunning natural beauty, became a member of the European Union (EU) in 1995. In this video, we will explore Sweden's journey through its political shifts, economic evolutions, and significant historical moments. We'll also examine Sweden's role and representation within the EU, understanding how the country collaborates and interacts with the larger European community. Our objective is to shed light on the dynamic relationship between Sweden and the EU, highlighting both the strong ties and the unique challenges they've faced over the years.

You should voice your support for the fight against corruption here in Sweden - Our country is also getting destroyed, but there's not much EU urgency over it. Children and women being kidnapped by cartels, tortured / murdered: mainly shoot or blown to pieces (etc) every week . In small towns also. So far the last wave of crime / systemical terror have cost 11 civilians their lives, eveyone being shot or killed in IED's ripping through peoples homes as they sleep. And 90% of the perps are children recruited via the Child Protective Services, yes you read that right. The killers were recruited in State care, via CPS programs run by criminals. As the police, the security forces, DEA-cpg (and others in particularly active in the region) ALL sit on their ass, demanding more money etc. Literally holding the people of Sweden hostage. But Thank You for your consideration #EU, all roads leads to Bryssel.

9:01: I think part of the reason why Sweden want to join NATO is to be handy for the Baltic countries and for Finland. If they are invaded, then we'll come next. Also if Russia occupies Gotland (which today isn't topical anymore, since the Ukrainians blew the Russian Black Sea fleet to smithereen and the threat of Kaliningrad is probably not real) it would make deep trouble for the Baltic States and Sweden also. So while being a self-preserving attitude in the end, it is probably based on mechanical (and perhaps also a cultural) solidarity with the Baltic states and Finland.

IT's really weird since the support for Nato membership is so low. Most I know believe it's much more likely Sweden is forced into a conflict on Turkey or the US's behalf than War in northern Europe.
@Stenskold
@Stenskold 8 месяцев назад
Another thing that's important to note regarding Sweden's NATO membership is that Sweden is in the way for US assistance to the Baltic and Finland in a war scenario. Sweden has long and strong relations with Finland and don't want Finland to be alone so close to Russia. In a war scenario a lot of NATO assistance to Finland (and the Baltic) would go through Swedish territory, airspace and seas, so having Finland in NATO is to Sweden a good enough reason to join NATO. When Turkey stops Sweden from joining it is not really endangering Sweden, at least not right now, but Turkey is endangering Finland.

Most people are positive about EU, however it's split on how much we are into it. I myself am a bit hesitant since I'm not into this German idea of one EU-nation. I also think we should keep the krona. Overall I like the EU but I think the brits were correct on how bigger nations like Germany easily can bulldoze another country because of the union. The energy shortage has for once proved the flaws on not being completely self sufficient and having to cover for Germany.

Impressive how people still think that Germany holds all the weight when in fact we need to do the dirty work most of the time and are rather under represented in comparison to countries like Luxembourg. As a Swede I think that the EU has helped us grow a lot. Being quite a cold and boring country up north I feel that the world is more open when you can travel throughout Europe without visas, and as mentioned in the video we export a lot of our goods which the EU has facilitated in a very beneficial way. I feel that the sentiment here at home is that Sweden is doomed due to a high number violent shootings. These shootings are terrible and Sweden has issues like any other nation but I believe in my home.

It seemed like a good idea to be able to have independent monetary policies, but in practice we really haven't seen that being used. This tool has not been used once in the last 15 years or so. The former Prime Minister, Carl Bildt of the Moderate Party, has been publicly advocating for joining the Euro recently. Many of the big business people have as well. The Kronor is now 0,08 Euros. It is causing the Swedish economy all sorts of problems. In the past, Swedes were saying that a weak Kronor can be a good thing, because it helps the export side of the economy. But now we are living in a world where even the exporting powers have to import quite a bit to make their products. The Kronor is also very volatile. Small currencies are very unstable in the current world economy. If we are indeed moving further into a world of regional economic blocs, then moving into Euro will make more and more sense.

As a swede I want the EU to act as a force for Europe to retain its global position in the world without the possibility of being bullied around by the US or China. I also see how Sweden gives more than it receives, and I am fine with that as long as my previous quotas are kept. It is my ultimate belief for humanity to unite and an integrated Europe is the first step to that. It is also important to note that Sweden took in a substantial amount of the refugees coming in to Europe together with Germany when some countries decided to do nothing. Is it easy to close of ones borders while your friends take the blow? Once again Sweden demonstrated its helping hand and core beliefs of solidarity and support, a humanitarian Great Power. This has also led to the rise of the conservative right in Europe and in Sweden it really has shaken things up. It is important to remember what made Sweden into the country it is today and not give in to fear.

Apart from this, I am concerned about problems such as demographic problems (you are swedish so I assume that you know what I mean), the energy problem(s), non-renewable resources such as oil, gas, rare metals etc. , perhaps global warming, biodiversity disturbances around the planet. And I observe that even today, national governments have more political powers in their legal authority to combat these problems, than institutions such as the Comission and the EU parliament. @@tomorrowneverdies567 I agree with in some ways. Of course, a federal EU would need to be reformed. Then I would imagine that some policy areas would be exclusive to the institutions, such as foreign, security and defense policy, while others would either be rolled back and the rest would stay the same. The demographic issue is national, so I can't see how a federal EU would change that in any way. Immigration is a huge problem, so I am in favor of basically taking away the possibility for seeing asylum in EU territory. For me the main gain with a federal EU is that we would have a stronger voice abroad and have the muscles to back our policies up. Today, I see how we are played out against one another by all other players. I do believe that Europe is completely unique, and I wish to save our way of life for all generations

We Swedes are generally positive towards the EU. The one thing that usually comes up as a problem is our traditions. We have no minimum-wage by law, as this is negotiated between the unions and employers, something which have been under threat considering that EU wants to present a minimum-wage across the union. Another point is snus, a tobacco-product that we've been exempt from outlawing due to it's role in Swedish society. Thirdly the state monopolised alcohol retail company "Systembolaget" have at times been attacked as it goes directly against the free market, and whilst we're allowed to import alcohol from i.e. Denmark, this have risen the question to whether the monopoly really is a monopoly and whether it is legal to remain as such whilst Sweden remains in the EU. Regardless of these concerns most Swedes see EU as an opportunity and have greatly benefitted the nation.

A lot of us grass root citizens voted in hope that the cost of say...food would get closer to EU levels. But instead they rised by 13% directly after we were accepted. I travel quite a lot and stay pretty long when I'm away, self catering as a pet/house sitter. And for example my food bill in the UK (Pre brexit & c0vid. I know it's changed a lot since then.) was 50% less than at home. And don't get me started on a simple pint of beer. And the Netherlands is 50-30% less. Plus I'm currently ordering all my tech stuff, clothes etc from the continent, simply because even incl shipping, it's cheaper in the end. I do sometimes wonder who benefitted the most? Sweden, but in reality also the other Scandinavian countries, are exactly like America in the films, while in reality real America is completely different from the America of the films. So if you are looking for the American dream it is easier to find it in Sweden than in the USA. 1) In American films it seems that poverty is marginal, while in reality it is widespread; Poverty also exists in Sweden, of course, but to a much lower extent than in the USA. 2) Snow at Christmas is a famous cliché in American films; because naturally there must be an idyllic image of Christmas, in reality in American cities it is more likely to have Christmas without snow than with snow; even in cities like New York. 3) Who wouldn't want to go to an American school after watching many movies? in reality the quality of American schools is quite poor (especially if public), while Swedish public schools are at the level of American private schools. 4) In American films, any family in which only the father works as a laborer can afford a two-story villa with a garden, in reality Homer Simpsons and Peter Griffin could not have the houses they have; even though houses in America often have gardens they are not as big as in the films, low wages can afford houses as large as 2-3 containers, the villas you see in the films are homes for high wages; not even in Sweden it is that simple, but a Swedish prefab is not at risk of being swept away by hurricanes or tornadoes. 5) Healthcare: in American films protagonists rarely go bankrupt for healthcare. 6) kids who go around with their hats on backwards and with skateboards are seen less and less in the USA, and more and more in Scandinavia.

A year ago, Eurobarometer published an EU-wide opinion poll, according to which 75 percent of the Swedes saw the EU-membership as a good thing, compared to the average 65 percent in EU27 as a whole. I know quite a few Swedes who vote for the Sweden Democrats. None of them opposes the EU-membership. Maybe they were suspicious 30 years ago, but not during the last 20 years. (They've become SD-voters much later, but seem to have very stable political views. Almost everyone says that the party they used to prefer has made itself unelectable, one way or another.) Perhaps there is a difference between voters and party-activists - I don't know. But it doesn't matter much. The immigration in Sweden is way to high. The amount of shootings, murders and violence is concerning at the least. People getting murdered every day now is common. Not being able to walk alone at night has become a problem. EU should divide the amount of immigrant equally between the countries and fair.

The problem isn't the immigration per se, but rather, the failed integration. Migration is the fast and easy part, integration is the slow part

EU is essential to swedens place in europe. Although sometimes we agree with it and sometimes disagree with it, like with anything in life it got its ups and downs. Russia showed that they cant be trusted and as a semi independent democratic country that makes us worried. But im sure togheter we will make a show of force and keep russia at a safe distance.

As someone believing in democracy, seeing von der leyens face makes me disgusted. Unelected officials living on taxpayer money. Within the EU the power is so far removed from the people its harrowing.

No one mentions really Brexit. I think we saw how Brexit hit the UK and now we understand that EU is an important ally. Im positive towards the EU but I'm negative towards it because of the aspect that the Frugal four is about. How can some states just want to do a sloppy work when it comes to money and state governance when better examples are out there? The EU is not about charity towards states that does not get it. For Sweden in the EU it was a very sad day when the UK exited the union. They were one of our biggest friends within the union. And EU questions does not really center in swedish peoples minds, for a party to say anything about the EU now, when people are so concerned about crime, welfare, immigration and environment it is bit weird... and the question of NATO is a big one. I think we should keep our krona but remain in the union.

I love EU and now when I found this channel I would definitely subscribe. It's just a shame that swedish journalists don't tell us so much about EU. My parents didn't even know that there is a public election every 5 year. But I follow many EU organisations on social media. However, as a swede living in Skåne (Scania), me personally I want my region to belong to Denmark. Skåne, Blekinge and Halland belonged to Denmark before 1658. And after it became swedish the people protested, they either wanted to have their own republic or belong to Denmark. King Karl XI and later his son Karl XII punished the people for not being loyal, they even burnt down entire villages, raped womens and murdered many people just becuase they didn't want to bow to a swedish king. According to Aftonbladet, a swedish paper, a majority of the scanians wanted to belong to Denmark. This was just some years ago. And I hope Skåne could rejoin Denmark sometime. But this time I hope it would be friendly due to both being in EU.

Well Denmark invaded Sweden unprovoked in 1657 when Sweden was already at war with Poland and Russia but still lost and thus lost Skåne so it was their own making. It's just the way it is, i'm from Gotland and the Danish invaded our island and with an army of mercenaries slaughtered an army of farmers and peasants that defended their home. They didn't want to be Danish either as Scanians didn't want to be Swedish. History is violent and it's the way it is.

ECR Group should have more representation. * Why? Because surveys shows that vast majority of Swedes are against more power centralization toward EU. And the only group that is clearly against this is the ECR Group. * Why isn't ECR the largest? Because political parties chose what EU group they support, and from the citizens perspective they only see their domestic parties as option, not EU groups. * Would EU election change drastically if people vote directly for an EU group and not domestic political parties? Yes

It is up to political parties what group they which to co-oparte with. Witgh the Brexit fiasco leaving the EU is just not realistic at all.
@christer8964

@@PMMagro Yes and that means that the local political party can suddenly switch EU group. I don't see the correlation between the public opinion and the actual representations in the EU groups. You can be for EU but still be against the centralizing of the power. EU has gone from just being an economic union into the some sort of socialist experiment.
