Hej!! I love your content and would love to hear your opinion on the topic of how foreigners moving to Sweden are treated in Sweden. My parents have lived in Sweden for over a decade and have warned me of the feeling of non-natives "never fitting in" and that the culture of Sweden prevents anyone from being "too different." As a non-native Swede, have you experienced this? I don't see many people talking about this and would really appreciate to hear your own experience and thoughts! Much love! ❤

Not talking to strangers i think is more of a city thing. My parents live in a small area about 60 km south of Göteborg and sometimes when the family's there we're out walking. Those who you meet always smiles and says hi and sometimes you can start talking with them as well. Here in Göteborg where i live i usually don't say hi to strangers when out walking so in that way i'm no better than the majority.

I love the calmer lifestyle. I live in north eastern US and everything and everyone is going so fast. My daughter says I have no memory and I get it. I can’t keep up and to be honest I don’t want to! Since I’ve been watching your videos I feel Sweden is where I really belong 😊. Thank you so much for doing these videos it gives me ideas of how I can do things differently in my family!! *Maybe it’s my Swedish ancestry?!

I think the perception depends on our personality and age :) Life is always about the balance. Living in a big and noisy city makes us feel overwhelmed and we want to escape to the countryside to spend our holidays and in the contrary living in a quiet countryside makes us wanting to go for holidays to hectic, big cities :) None of this extreme is perfect but living in one place doesn’t mean we have to be totally closed. The whole world still belong to us and it’s open, we can experience all of it and sometimes feel bored and sometimes take the most of the activities around us :) It’s like the seasons - we don’t have summer all the time but once a year winter is coming to give us some time to rest and to get a perspective but also appreciation when we finally hit spring again ❤

Those of you who think Sweden is boring, stand in front of a mirror and you will have the answer to why Sweden is boring. Now those of you who think so will react that it is not at all down to you, but that Sweden is boring. It is time for you to know the truth: If you are negative about everything, it is because you are negative people and then it does not matter where in the world you go, you will think the same thing there. You have to learn if something is not to be boring you have to use your imagination and everything doesn't have to cost money. BUT the first thing you have to stop is being negative because negative people are energy stealers and people who are positive avoid such negative people because they want to keep their positive energy and not be affected by negative people. Then you also have to learn YOU have to put energy and do something yourself, because nothing comes to you. Because think about when you were in Sweden or are in Sweden, that someone came and called/knocked on your door and came more offers to do something fun. Then why we Swedes stay at home instead of running outside, is that after work or school, we Swedes want to unwind and not be stressed and stress leads to what we in Sweden call "going into the wall", which means: Exhaustion syndrome is a consequence of severe stress combined with too little recovery. It used to be called burnout or exhaustion depression. But not everyone who gets fatigue syndrome gets depression. That's why we take it easy so as not to end up in that situation. Then we Swedes go out from time to time to have fun and not all the time. We Swedes are outdoor people and like I said want to relax, so we go to our cabins to do that, or like up in my city Kiruna, many of us have an ark. (kind of a small house that you drag out onto the ice during the winter, to pimp inside the ark or as others say ice fishing but you do it inside and through holes in the floor inside the ark. Other Swedes have their caravans that are set up somewhere like you get to. As I said that Sweden is boring according to you, it depends on you who say it than that Sweden would be boring. An important piece of advice, stop being a negative person because nobody wants to spend time with negative people, as you drag other people down your negative energy spiral I have had negative people around me and they have stopped hanging out, would never in my life hang out with you when you are so negative but would ask you to go and take your nagative energy.

Har man roligare om bussen är 5 kronor billigare när jag går ut? Har man roligare om folk jag inte känner ler åt mig när jag går ut? Vad skall Sverige göra åt att Hollywood inte gör nya filmer varje vecka för att passa 15 till 25 åringar. Om sverige inte passar så är det bara att åka hem. Mycket enkelt.

It's so interesting that thus idea that people are more chatty in the south is so prevalent, it was originally invented by philosopher Montesquieu, based on observations of Northern and Southern France!

Well, as a Swede living in Solna from Piteå, moved many years ago, I think the northern aspect is not valid. We are equaly boring, or interesting. We do though might need a boost from another to start a conversation.

Great topic and good points! I also previously had thought on the same topic. And I think a big reason that is specific about Sweden, is that it is hard to blame the country for the lack of opportunities to have a fun life. On a level of the country, all the opportunities are there: nature is available for anyone and everywhere, different hobby clubs, any sport is available for the majority for a reasonable price, even like "luxury" types i.e. golf, yachting, horse riding, etc. If you lack social life there are tons of social clubs for different activities, from sport or music, to very specific and rare like building Viking-style boats or restoring American retro cars. Even if you miss something you would like to do you can set up your own club for that and the local municipality will help with that. The main problem - is that you actually should have some interests and take some initiative to explore those interests. There are not that many "fast food" options for entertainment like big shopping-entertainment malls, mass public spas, or entertainment centers that people prefer to spend their spare time at in other countries. And no gigantomania like having "The biggest", "The tallest", "The fastest", or "The most expensive" something in the world, as it might be in some places like USA or Dubai.

I totally agree with everything. As a "boring" swede that has spent alot of time in germany, i can say that germany is the same way wich for me is positive :)

I'll fess up now and admit I won't watch your RU-vid video (I know I should but..) but I do want to remind people what a brilliant idea the "Random Swede" project was 7 years ago, any country able to be so witty and original has my respect and affection.

I don't want to be too negative. But if you compare Germany for example with Sweden, the bar bar culture is so different. In Germany a lot of bars are the second living room. The missing of the so-called third places lead to quite boring social life. What for me is really different to boring time periods after förskolan or on the weekend.

The weather this year hardly makes me happy to live here. But this bad is not common.

Actually boring is good. It keeps the city calm, clean and orderly. I’m fun party cities there’s a more chaotic street scene.

You’re so right. Growing up in Sw. that was something displeasing to me as young, but now Sw and I get along fine. Swedish life is rather ’lagom’ and there is always Arlanda (airport) to remedy this.

You are so right about the chatty Scanians. Not only on the countryside. My gymnasium was in Lund. Later, I moved north, into Sweden proper, for university. And I could never really accept that one is supposed to have a stone face, even when talking with someone. But it was a good preparation for moving to Helsinki. 🙃

Boring. Cold. Dark. PC. Crowded. Apart from that it's awesome! Good music, good car scene, many lakes, and no covid lockdowns. No where is perfect.

I agree with your perspective and the person who wrote the last text about living in Skåne. If you just expect Sweden to entertain you while you do nothing, maybe it can be boring in a bad way for some. But if you yourself make a bit of an effort and have something you create, explore or invest in yourself you will have a lot of possibilities and probably find others to share it with. Why move somewhere and expect everything to be like the place you left? Why did you move? And why didn't you do your "home work" on the place you moved to? If it's boring - than do so something! That attitude is probably whats making your life boring, it's not going to help. Use your own mind and hands and do something about it instead... If you want Las Vegas or New York - don't move here! 😉

Hi🙂 I'm Swedish and an introvert 😐I have no friends😊Poor man 👨some of you might think but i don't have any friends because I want it that way😉I like to do things how i want when I want,you can't do that with so called friends🤨 However,I talk to people now and then but nothing more😑 I don't think Sweden is boring,i love nature,picking mushrooms in the autumn🍂 and some berries to🫐🍓🍒😋I do puzzles,very stimulating for your brain🧠 but that is just to mention a few things that I do😀 Yes i really love Sweden,and i am Swedish of course 😁,however if you are coming from Africa 🌍or another country where people is talking to everybody on the street then i can understand if you think Sweden is boring 🥱but it depends on who you are and you're interests of course Wishes you all a very good day🥳 See ya🖐

Boring is negative.. you are talking about being bored so you can appreciate other things.. but the word boring means boring

Honestly I think if you have only ever lived in the one country your whole life you will find everything negative about it you will only ever see the "Boring"side of things Like I watched this and listened to the comments and thought hell i could say that about Where I live in Australia and its considered the most tourist attractive spot for people all over the world we get people from all different countries come here to visit because to them its exciting but for me its "boring"and to be honest I cant wait to move to Sweden LOL

Not to be mean, but u live in stockholm which is the biggest city in sweden and even then its boring, Lets be honest sweden is veeeeery boring, i ve seen many of your videos and the feeling i get is that u urself is more of a swedish person , dont forget u have a husband and 2 kids and u spend most of ur time taking care of them, so ur vision of sweden isnt the same as single person moving from abroad. And u also repeat many sterotypes about sweden that the weather is always dark and cold, ppl depressed, lonely, not social, u cant make friends, ppl are always home …. So at some point u can tell that they are right, and maybe u should consider they are right and that maybe its u who is just different than regular ppl, which is nothing bad btw, its just that u would give the wrong idea about sweden to your viewers thats all.
