I found a PLCE side pouch will fit nicely on the shelf under the pack and strapped in place by the straps that run under the pack. This gives a little more storage without sewing.

A great idea. I like that. Thanks for watching.

Here in Sweden it's infamous that "Försvarsmaktsliter" (armed forces litres) are bigger than civilian, normal, litres.

You have certainly done a lot of mods to bring the backpack up to functional standards. Well done, but that’s a lot of work and requires your advanced level of craftsmanship to pull it off. You did a very nice job, because the finished product looks very professional. I think I will just buy a pack with the right functionality.

Good sack, very good. In the army we use the frame only to carry 7.62 ammo boxes, 2 of them. and in civilian life i have use the frame to carry an livebait bucket with 20 Roaches:). If you know what the list of gear we was told too put in the sack you will be suprised haha, good video.

Just found your channel. I watched this because I have an LK 35. I knew instantly that you have an LK 50 as soon as I saw it. Both the 35 and 50 have been sold as 35s in England. If you ever take it apart and make a pattern from that pack, I would love to get a copy of that. Thanks for your great videos!

Thankyou again for a wonderful concise and clear video. It seems that some modification is necessary depending on the projected length of trip. What materials did you use and where did you source them? I wonder if you might leave links as you have for clothing. Thankyou again for a great job.

i love the lk35 iave had like 10 of em,the old civilian ruckssacks with aluminum frame from the same era is awesome they look brand new when you find them secondhand,the quality on haglöfs is amazing,irony is the replaced them with a crappy rucksack for the army without frame and they look like crap after a few years,not the same quality.

The thing is Neil, you've been doing this for so long, when you bought that for three quid it was a weeks' wages.( probably a months!) Another cracking video though. Love the mesh 'dump pockets'

Lol. I did the maths the other night on this and its not 8 years at all that I have had this - its actually 14 years! I think that is a reasonable time to assess how good they are. Thanks for following what I do.

Love the mods bud! Would love to find out about how you went about changing the buckles to plastic! I'd personally like to get one and attach molle webbing to attach all the pouches I've amassed.

It's still just a top-loading sack, which makes it difficult to access items anywhere except the top of the bag if you need them in a pinch before you're setting up at the end of the day... If you like Swedish design and quality, just get the Fjallraven Singi Stubben, as 99% of the people eyeing off this bag don't need an external frame backpack anyway, and the great thing about the Stubben is that aside from being able to access items from the front, it can also be used as a stool...

i though about modding my lk35 but then also bought a KSF predator 30 rucksack with scramblekit 11 litre pack extended side pods: so flexible 30-52l rucksack , still might get the militarymart lk35 waist belt so can use it for wood/water carry

Great talk on the LK 35. I have had one and sold it about a year ago but I have another one coming soon. One question on your bushcraft rucksack, where did you source the side pocket zips you put on the side? Like on your 35 that would be a great mod for mine.Nate

Thanks for the video Neil. I ordered an lk35 with the intention of doing your mesh pocket mod. Can you give more details of the mesh fabric you've used please?
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 7 лет назад
Its the same mesh they use on PLCE webbing/vests. Its some sort of nylon. Endicotts (www.endicotts.co.uk)have all the buckles & webbing. You could ask if they know of a source.

Great video Neil, thank you - I've subscribed :) I have been pondering over buying the LK35 for a little while, but you have now made my mind up for me! I have read that there was also an LK 50 in the range, but I don't know how true that is? I have two questions for you: Did you make or scavenge from another rucksack, the replacement straps and waist belt? Did you hand stitch or machine sew the webbing to the rucksack? Many thanks for your time Tony
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 7 лет назад
It was a an LK70 - I had one for a while, sold it to a mate. Very good kit.
@curtisharper01

Benn reading into the LK"s since I posted, and it seems that the 35 is generously sized as you state, which may cause a bit of confusion to sellers :) I've found a set of ALICE straps and a belt that should fit nicely. As for the netting, I'm guessing that hand stitching is an easier option? Going to get stuck in to some more of your videos now. Thanks for the reply

Having watched this video and being introduced to some of the mod options I just ordered an LK35 as my next bushcraft project. It looks a lot more robust than my cheaply made 'tactical molle' backpack that I bought earlier this year. The 'tactical' backpack I bought won't accept MOLLE pouches as the gap in the straps isn't quite wide enough for other pouches. I'm planning on doing the grab handle mod and the mesh pocket for soggy waterproofs/tarp.

what are the straps you used to replace the standard ones that keep the frame off your back

They are just 500mm webbing backed with Velcro, they are easier to tension than the originals.
