A 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and long considered the “wild man” of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Artimus Pyle’s powerful and distinctive double bass drumming helped define the legendary Skynyrd sound. Since his departure from Skynyrd in 1991, Artimus Pyle’s career has led him down an amazing path of solo records and projects culminating into one of the finest tributes to southern rock royalty. Catch the classic "Sweet Home Alabama" LIVE on the Huckabee stage!

how is he a real member, he replaced Bob Burns who was the original drummer, truth is, Pyle isn't an original member of the band, the original members were Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Larry Junstrum and Bob Burns.

"Sweet Home Alabama" was mostly written by Ed King... the only member of Lynryd Skyrnyrd that came from California... in fact, as a teenager he wrote the classic psychedelic R&R song, "Incense & Peppermints" done by his then band, The Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Yes that is true - and also Rickey Medlocke replaced Bob Burns - temporarily - before Artimus Pyle did. There's a story there, but I won't go into it here. Just do yourself a favor and buy their Muscle Shoals album and listen to it and read the liner notes. I guarantee you you'll learn something. @@benjones1715

Gary Rossington would disagree with you on that - since he kept Lynyrd Skynyrd going since 1987 with Rickey Medlocke and Johnny Van Zant - and so would Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins - RIP. Ronnie wouldn't short change his brother like that and Allen didn't even like Artimus Pyle. I get it that most folks like the classic line-up - I do too - but I wouldn't put down on Johnny and especially Rickey. Not enough fans realize how important Rickey was to LS going back to 1971.
