You kept saying: _"sleep with their guitars"_ and I'm cracking up because one of my guitars is laying on my bed right now. lols But what's amazing to me is that many guitars on stage and they could still hold it together. For those who don't know, it usually takes 4 or even just 3 guitars to make everything fall apart.

So, the very last song that Stevie Ray Vaughan ever played on stage was "Sweet Home Chicago", at the Alpine Valley venue in Wisconsin, hours before the helicopter crash that took his life. Playing with Stevie, in that final song of the night, was Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray. I'm sure they can't help but think of SRV whenever they play this song, and surely when they join the others that were with them that fateful night.

@@DJHolte Seriously that's beyond imagination. I saw Jimmy Vaughan interviewed or read an interview where Jimmy went to identify the body and his wife went to keep him company. Jimmy prayed for a sign. Well as he was leaving some one there ran beside the car and tapped on the window. The man had the Coptic cross Stevie wore almost all the time. they did "Sweet Home Chicago" as the finale... according to Clapton's quote, everyone didn't linger but were all discussing transportation back to Chicago. EC said he'd ride, he wasn't in a hurry. SRV picked up an empty seat in the copter with two of EC's people (who also perished in the crash). The caravan of cars had left the area only minutes before the helicopter took off in the thick fog. It was airborne less that 3 minutes before it hit the side of the mountain. So, time was more compressed than we'd like to think it was. The cars didn't know about the crash until they got to Chicago. EC went with Jimmie Vaughan to the morgue the next morning to identify Stevie's remains.

About the "Crossroads" ... 100 years ago there was a blues guitarist names Robert Johnson. (Charter member of "The 27 Club" - musical artist dying at 27 years old ... it's a long, IMPRESSIVE list!) Anyway - Mr Johnson went down to the crossroads, where he met with the Devil , and sold his soul for musical ability. Many blues artists will sing his songs about going down to the crossroads. And Eric Clapton would gather up and AMAZING line up every few years for his "Crossroads Tours".

There's this kid I have been following for years. He opened for Buddy Guy's show a few times this month. He impressed Buddy. The last night he performed with him, there was another kid, 9 7r old Bay who played. Taj Farrant had him cone up and play his guitar with Taj a few months ago. It was fun watching Taj give more of his playing time and mentoring to Bay. You could see it impressed Buddy as well. Taj is an old soul 15 yrs old. Many people swear he's the reincarnation of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Party because he looks a little like him and also because he has similar style in playing. Funny thing is although even though Taj loves and plays some Stevie songs, he's more into Gary Moore. When Taj plays Gary's Parisienne Walkways you just want to hold on. He also is great playing The Sky is Crying. Taj is coming out with his first album next week. He had 6 original songs from it chart at #1 on the iTunes blues charts. Loved seeing him connect with Buddy!

Back in the days Eric Clapton had some severe alcohol and drug addiction but eventually got clean and sober. Crossroads is originally an old like blues standard written and first recorded by Robert Johnson and when EC was in the band Cream they did a cover version of that song. Nowadays it's a guitar festival hosted by EC and all the benefits of the festival goes to his treatment centre located at the island of Antiqua in the Caribbean.

Half the people on that stage were also on stage with Stevie Ray Vaughan when he played for the last time, when they turned this song into a 20 minute jam. And all of them have said many times that Stevie played his absolute best that night. And then they got on helicopters to head to Chicago. It's so ironic & heartbreaking. But at least Stevie had a heckuva great time, with people he loved playing with, in his last hours. Jamel, please react to one of Stevie's most beloved instrumentals, "Riviera Paradise", the version that's live from Austin "One Night in Austin" on Austin City Limits". He dedicates it to "anyone still suffering" & then spins beauty & magic that's been known to make grown men cry.💙🌿💚

Eric Clapton Hosts this Festival every year, and he invites the great Blues guitarists (that are still living) to his festival, and they all play each other's songs together. The great Johnny Winter is the guy sitting down with the long grey hair and hat. He died shortly after this. Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter are maybe the two best to ever pick up a guitar. I have three guitar heroes , really love them . Two are friends and sure must be jamming their guitar somewhere out there on the universe .Jimi and Johnny Winter, was lucky to see him live still in good shape , Jimi was too young . Eric first time i saw him at Long Beach , was a courtesy from my friend Dennis , had met him for just over a month. We used two have few beers at least three times a week at the garden where i and his girl lived , her apartment was 10 yards from mine . He never told me , and I had no idea until a girlfriend asked How did you meet him ? Looked around point at him saying ,,,you mean Dennis .Yes where? Right where you are standing at this moment. I'm from Brazil , sure I knew who they were but not their faces. She pushed away and told me ,I know his name, and she was really pissed . I said wtf , what's going on are you mad because i'm having a beer with my friend . There she told me , he is the drummer of The Beach Boys Dennis Wilson , Really he never told me , well she went in and I walked back finish my beer told him what .went on . Did not change a thing , was and still am a surfer knew their music but wasn't never a fan . Besides was not Noel Redding , Keith Moon there was just Dennis . Asked why he never told me , my Brazilian friend first The Band is over also i suck playing the drums . We laugh for at least a minute . One day he asked me if i liked Eric Clapton and i told him about my three big idols . His words , great taste my friend., here is for you take your girl and have fun . There are times in life you get presents no money can buy , tried for weeks to get the tickets . Found scalpers charging waay too much . Two days before the concert the tickets were handed to me at my door . Long drive from S Monica to Long Beach, now walking in and looking for our seats a girl came over asked to see the tickets and said , pls follow me . When she turned right and kept walking and the stage getting closer . She stopped on the second row to our seats . Man Long Beach Sports Arena was the same size as the Forum , where the Lakers used to play and big concerts usually were . Capacity around 13.000 and we at the second roll , Eric had a black Rolex on . RIP my good friend , he died drowned at the Marina , Dennis was an alcoholic , and was about to lose his boat also home . He died around two years later , during that time we became good friends . I hate those guys even more his brother Brian, Over that bunch of crap that i wrote the only survivor is Eric , talking about the older guys . You all RIP J and J get Dennis to play the drums once in awhile ; LoL

It is a lot of blues but not only and always. I must say, there is a lot of great John Mayer performances online rom the festival. He belongs up there with those guys because he is there to pick up the torch from them. Clapton stated once "John is a master of his craft." Great stuff from those festivals.

If you're ever in my sweet home, Chicago, you gotta stop by Buddy Guy's Legends club on South Wabash, Buddy still performs there from time to time.

Absolutely my favorite. Cebon Tiger, a guy from my hometown, now lives in Seattle. Local who changed his music journey the first day he heard SRV. Church him out live on his FB or website. Does a set that closes with Sweet Home Home as in the Blues Brothers

I've seen this one before, but never tire of watching/listening. Have tried getting reactors to react to Blues: doesn't go well. Outside of Blues circles, they just don't draw large views. There Is one, teez mc gee, who did a request for Shemekia Copeland & Kenny Wayne Shepherds' collaboration on Hit Em Back; think it got maybe 300 views...smh. Thnx for this, J ✌

Hubert Sumlin was blues royalty. He played with Howlin' Wolf. Also there was Jimmy Vaughn, brother of Stevie Ray, who would listen to his brother's blues albums and mess with his guitar back in the day. Rock would not be the same without people like Hubert, Pinetop Perkins and Johnny Johnson. Hey hey, the Blues are alright.

Crossroads Festival was founded by Eric Clapton and happens every year. But the idea of "The Crossroads" goes back Robert Johnson (or even earlier). The legend is that Johnson met the devil at the crossroads (in Mississippi) and sold his soul to the devil to get his guitar playing skills.

Look up the Blues Counsel and their song " the river is rising" they have like 8 guitarists, bass player, drummer. All the guitarist and the bass player have a solo in the song. The group is made of Christian musicians who play blues style rock. You will only be disappointed if you dont see the live vid of the song. So dont be disappointed, and give it a reaction.
