You’re always gonna be getting fooled. I hate to say it…. I have put myself through basically everything except meth. Over a 20 year period…. Opiates we’re the only unintended addiction. Been on subs now for almost 5 years. Yes I know too long. Have seizure issues, doc says it’ll help me so I just listen saved my life. Back to being lied to. I don’t know why. But almost ANYONE I’ve known including myself has lied at least once per visit. Even normal people lie to normal doctors. Think about when you go. Do you tell the truth 100% of the time? They’ll not try to do it intentionally to you. Not in anyway. It’s a addiction preservation/comfort mechanism that I try to not let go of. Be glad you’re a normie. But also…. You’re missing out on some amazing feelings. Obviously you see the people who cannot manage their addictions. I’m still into a lot of drugs. I just don’t do them every week. I’d say get to know a patient, pick their brains on what to look for. I’d actually be happy to help you notice what to look for if you’re looking for people and patterns of lying? I can help with any drug except for depression med abuse. Like prozac is crazy, one of my clients just went to the er for running out? I’m a professional Tattooer, and yeah. It’s bananas out there.

People dealing with addictions deserve less judgement & more compassion & care. (And, we would all do well to remember the wise words of Keith Richards-- "addictions are like @$$holes--sverybody has one". Some folks' addictions are easier to notice & judge--but everyone's got one, whether it's meth, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, drama, sex, power, shopping...whatever.) Especially given the (scientifically proven) link between serious trauma & addiction. Further traumatizing the traumatized is not helpful, decent, sane, nor humane. Wishing you freedom, safety, comfort, care, healing, Light, Hope, & peace. Please take good care of you.♥️ You DESERVE healing, safety, freedom, comfort, care, & peace. God bless. ♥️

Checking in for surgery decades ago I get a surgeon's PA who doesn't tell me he's a PA. I think he's a surgeon. But when we get to the "uuuuuhhh... did you say allergic to 'phenothi....something''? How do you spell that?" That's when I knew. Sadly, 3 weeks later I literally assaulted him from my bed in self-defense. I had two chest tubes in. And they'd been leaking for 3 weeks. They finally stopped and a day later the surgeon said "if it still looks good we'll pull those tomorrow". I sneezed that night. BLOOP! I hear the vacuum thing bubble and the tubes are back to bubbling like mad. So the PA comes in at 5am and says "we're pulling those tubes today". I explain why we're not. He says "nothing on this order has any conditions, it just says pull the tubes so that's what I'm doing". I argue more and he finally just reaches up and starts pulling tape off my chest. He didn't expect what came next. I was quite healthy, save for leaky lungs. So I sat up and SHOVED him hard. He fell back two steps and landed in the chair. And he SCREAMED at me insisting I was gonna be in SOOO much trouble and he absolutely was reporting this. It didn't go like he expected. Surgeon came in 4 hours later saying "I heard from him what happened--you did the right thing and I told him so--if he'd pulled the tubes you would have been in deep respiratory distress within about 30 minutes and me or someone would have been doing an emergency chest tube placement. I think it was completely reasonable to answer that question that way. I would have interpreted it like that as well. After all, medications ARE drugs and they SHOULD care which ones you've been taking since you were pregnant. Unless they specified recreational drugs, I would never assume they meant illicit drugs, because if we function under that assumption, they might miss out on getting a lot of relevant medical information that could be crucial to getting the proper care and advice. I had a similar experience back in high school. One day I was sent home from school because I was sick and shaking so my mom picked me up and took me to the hospital. The nurse asked if I was on drugs and I said no so she pulled me aside and asked me again while assuring me that she won’t tell my mother if I just tell her what drugs I took. Thinking really hard I replied “Dextromethorphan and Acetaminophen.” She asked what kind of drugs are those and I said “one’s a cough suppressant and the other is a pain reliever.” The nurse wasn’t very amused with my answer. She said I could have just told her it was cold medicine. Turns out the shaking was just me shivering because I had a cold and didn’t need to go to the hospital. I already knew that but the school didn’t want to take any chances so they told my mom it was an emergency and made a big deal out of nothing.

When I was in school for respiratory therapy, we were supposed to draw an ABG. This was back in the 1970s when we used glass syringes that we’d heparinize with liquid heparin. We were told that our first patient would be a comatose patient. I was a little needle phobic in those days, and somehow avoided drawing an ABG, until the day came, and they told me I’d be drawing an ABG on the young man who was recovering from a drug OD. I was so nervous… When he looked at me as I entered the room, he said, “You’ve never done this before, have you?” I missed, and he said, “Don’t feel bad, even I miss sometimes.” 😅 Nowadays we wouldn’t have been doing an ABG on him, but that was in the days before pulse oximetry and end tidal CO2 monitoring.

I would hear this all the time as a female working in a game store, so I naively said something like, "I'm always happy to help! What were you looking for?" They looked at me in disbelief and said, "you know where to get hash?" "OH! YES! THAT'S MY FAVORITE THING! You need to go to Spyro's!" The two young men got wildly excited and asked where Spryo is. I told them "it's a restaurant just a few miles down, they have the best corned beef hash in the city." Their mood immediately deflated and they left without saying another word to me. My boss pulled me aside and explained how "hash" is another word for "weed". Rofl
