I'm 13 years old and I stay so sad when I think that the 70's/80's never go back... Everything was better, the music, the culture, and the people too. Sometimes I cry watching videos of Sweet and other bands that I love. I will never go for a concert by The Beatles, Ramones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd... and this make me really sad. I was born at the wrong time!
It.s 2024 now and you;re an adult now m maybe married with children as well. How much has changed since you wrote this. I for one am now 61 years old. I was about 13 when this song came out and I never dreamed the world could go so wrong. I hope you are well and the world has been kind to you. All the best for the future and God bless.
This song is a masterpiece from the beginning to the end. Thank you so much Andy, Brian, Steve and Mick for all the good music and for being in my life. 💫
No song ever sounded quite like this. This is classy classic rock. Will love this tune till the day I die. The entire album "Level Headed" is legendary. Every track is imbedded in my soul. It's like a time machine to me. It will always be 1978.
@@peterburry3553 I get what he means though. It was the time of Glam Rock, they played the part but not their true selves. Much like bands like Slade, a very popular band that were not taken seriously after the era ended. They were both much better than they are given credit for.
I remember my father playing this at home. This song sounds similar to something ELO would create but yet different. It is truly an incredible composition with great, yet simple lyrics, that hit home.
I thought i was the only one that believed this was ELO…nice to know there’s another crazy lunatic out there…😂 i’m in good company…i wish there was a time machine, so i can go back to the ‘70’s and stay there…
This is, without a doubt, the best pop song ever recorded: exceptionally great lyrics, incredibly great riffs, progressive interlude and heavy metal...these guys were so far ahead of the time, it's incredible! Way way before these were genres! WTF; this is the best pop song ever!
THIS SONG IS one of the best songs with a hook that grabs you deep down inside. I did not think too muchy about it till I walked into the Providence Civic Center when Sweet was in the middle of this song and they had the whole audience by the tips of their fingers. Deep Purple followed them and could not match them. That was huge. Because Deep Purple can make most bands sound like there music is coming through a transister radio. I'm a big Purple fan and Sweet showed them the way at this partiicular show. Sweet rocked the arena this night.
That’s cool cause I loved both bands but Sweet was my first. As innocent as that sounds you still would have thought Deep Purple would have blown them away just because they were bigger. But like Lynyrd Skynyrd with The Who or The Stones it’s who really puts their all into a show.
These guys were way ahead of the curve. Hate that they encountered so much difficulty and division late in their run, especially Brian. What a talented, mysterious, cool, and unique group.
Dr.Ilja Lasaroff.Bulgarien, das Land des Sweet Vine, sweet Roses and sweet Musik.
This long version is the absolute best! Reminds me of my childhood and I always jammed out to this! My brother played this all the time when he was a teen in the '70's!!
lynchie137 grenoch, are you sure. I've always heard Sweet guitarist Andy Scott wrote this and was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the composition. It lost to "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty. What ELO album did it appear on, because I have all of those too?
Sweet was quiet for a few years with not many hits from years before. It came out in 79 and sounded totally different but really good. Such a shame that most of the original band members are no longer with us.
What a great song. I love the extended version with the breakdown in the middle. Rest in Peace Brian, Mick, and Steve. Long live Andy and the music of Sweet.
Andy Scott wrote a song that stands the test of time. Such an epic song!!Sad that it was really a farewell song. They still sounded and looked great. I love that classical guitar part.
great to hear someone of todays generation having a love for a great period in music, youtubing allows you to see and live this time so don't get sad, I'd love to be 13 again keep enjoying we all pass on some time. CHEERS
This is a great classic rock song. It is raw, it is expressive, it is melodic with great lyrics and great harmonies, and it tells a great story. I approve this video.
One hit wonders? Not even. Can it get any better than this? I thought I was a rock-n-roller when I was 17 in 1980 and I was washing dishes at a golf resort restaurant. I was into AC/DC, VH, Nuge, Rush, Queen, Sabbath, Eagles, America, (yes, America), Disco (yes, Disco), KISS, and then a waiter told me about SWEET. What a band! Just does not get any better!
EXCELENTEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! EXCELENTE! Gracias !!!
I love sweet. They were a great Band. -MultiSmiley5- I think a lot of the young crowd love our music. My kids tell me all the time how lucky we were that we were teens in the 70's. I have to agree...our music is timeless!!
THE SWEET are simply one of the best groups ever! Especially in their Brian Connolly days, their music didn't put a foot wrong. Marvellous albums, excellent A-Sides and brilliant B-Sides. These are songs that stay with you for life! WE WANT SWEET!
Totally agree with Ken I`m 53 I`ve been listening to Sweet since Funny Funny in 1970 I grew up with them they must be the most under rated band of all time. Their music sounds as good today as it did all those years ago. SWEET rockin days until the day I die
Amazing how this and other music from this era brings you back to a much simpler time, perhaps the last simpler time. It would be nice to go back knowing what I know now.
Gracias.
What is tremendous in this song is that you find the strength of glam rock, the beginning of prog rock, prefacing the disco craze. That's the way artists should be : aware of what's changing and what must remains the same. I'm definetely fond of Sweet.
I lived those days also. I enjoyed all the bands you named and many more. I think living through that era has made me appreciate all the great music that came along with it even more today. Wouldn't trade those days for anything in the world.
I had a small transister radio y I was in the wooden outhouse when I first heard this song. It was the type of song to stay in your head. I was never into lyrics, just the music. Good music. Enjoyable y motivating. Still think Andy Scott is the band's most intriguing member, y now soul survivor. God bless you Andy.
I have been in 80s bands metal Bands hard rock been playing 50 years and friends are always shocked when I say sweet is my favorite band the were ahead of everyone.
can u believed that it played on one of Kuala Lumpur's radio station and brought back so many memories. This song still rocks after 30 over years..........hope they will remaster Sweet's Greatest Hits.
This version of this great song is on the "Level Headed" album. and it's still as much a favorite of mine as it was when it first came out. and the album cover is a treasure itself. and showed some of this really AWESOME album cover. towards the end of this video, like the guitar with the cassette player between the pick-ups, that's on the inset of the album cover. and right at the end of the video they showed the front of the album cover. definitely one my all time favorites for sure.
A truly great track. The Sweet were very innovative in their sound and in many ways, way ahead of their time. This melody changes in this track are fantastic, as is the tempo and pitch. Thumbs up for a memorable and brilliant sound.
1978, junior in high school. I asked a friend to take me to the mall. Bought this album, went back to school, put in on the turntable in the gym, and cranked it. She thought I was nuts. "Nobody gets into music like you do!!" Damn right.
Very underated progressive rock group one of the greatest songs of all time the interlude will be played at my funeral I'm 67 years old now they don't make music like this anymore what a shame. 5:14
Saludos. Gracias por compartir!!!
Crazy how just a song can bring back so many great and emotional memories!!!! Wished I cherished those moments more at the time………never thought they would end I guess
I'm 55 I always thought I was born 10 years too late I missed all the great cars and all the great songs but no no it's been a tough ride don't ever regret ❤🤟🤟💪💪💪
