In the midst of the 1970's emerged the bands now legendary as Glam Rockers. SWEET, not satisfied with being one of the pack, slapped on the paint and went out of their way to become more outrageous.
SWEET had 15 Top 40 hits in the UK alone and went on to sell well over 20 million units worldwide. They achieved 3 Top 40 singles in 1971 with Funny, Funny, Co-Co and Alexander Graham Bell followed by 3 more hits in 1972 with Poppa Joe, Little Willy and Wig Wam Bam and finally the coveted #1 slot in January 1973 with Blockbuster!
This DVD brings together all of SWEET'S Greatest Hits and includes rare performances of their self-penned heavier tracks as well as bonus material from the original 16mm films that SWEET recorded to promote their singles worldwide. Love Is Like Oxygen was, so to speak, the last gasp that Sweet had on the charts before they sadly faded away after Brian left the band. It's a brilliant track.

Alcoholism is a terrible disease if not brought in to recovery. 52 and 54, far too young to go. I never got to see Sweet. I enjoyed their tunes for a very long time. Well hear I am. Checking them out still!! :)

I was introduced to Sweet by my friend in 1986. He handed me a cassette , it was "Desolation Boulevard" . I wore that tape out , it was so good. I grew up in the 80's listening to bands like Motley Crue , RATT , Quiet Riot ect. So I just missed the hey day of Sweet. Thank GOG for RU-vid , I listen to Sweet as often as I can.

I never got to see them live because i was only about 12 when they were famous. I saw Andy's version a few years ago. They were good but without Brian it wasn't the Sweet.

My experience with the Sweet is kind of kooky, I liked several of their songs over the decades, but had no idea they were the same band, because their sound could vary so much. Only the advent of RU-vid allowed me to play the songs and realize, hey, is that the same band? RU-vid, for me, is mostly about the music, and my appreciation of the Sweet really grew with the perspective.

There are a few songs that are legendary and epic almost beyond the ability to appreciate. Stairway to heaven, dream on, stranglehold, Bohemian Rhapsody and love is like oxygen. They are such phenomenal songs that every time you hear them you realize that it is almost impossible to fully appreciate how fantastic they are.

Brian Connelly’s voice was perfect and meant for the songs written by Andy Scott. No one could sound better singing these songs EVER. SO SAD that he couldn’t control his alcohol and it destroyed the band and his life.

At their peak nobody rocked better and harder than The MIGHTY Sweet. They needed proper management and direction because as all musical geniuses they were just too reckless and wild. The best!!

Love this one!. it always seemed to be played on Radio 1 as i was getting ready for school on Dark winter mornings. From that same year i also love what i consider to be a "companion piece" to this track, City Boy's "5705". Can't say that i was a fan of sweet as they were massive in early 70's when i was just a small kid BUT, apart from LILO i have found myself , in the last month or so, overdosing on "Teenage Rampage" here on you tube.

He is as false as Judas, and to say Judas is a compliment. I don't like this man...a tender affection has always linked Steve to Brian, the only truly genuine and honest person. The amateur video shot at Steve's daughter's wedding is beautiful: there you can see the embrace of two old friends, the human warmth, the understanding of pain, the sharing of the joy of a meeting. Brian there is weak, very sick, however he sings Fox on the run, Steve plays bass, Brian hints at a clap, in spite of the fatigue caused by his almost paralysed left hand...a smile prints itself on Steve's face...pure magic, and that was beauty too. Wonderful souls both, now together again with Mick❤

Everyone making fun of Andy's hair should understand that you get "caught up" in a 'look'. I can see it now, 40 years from now 75 yr old rappers wearing their pants halfway down their ass and piercing that are drooping down 5 inches farther than original. Leave the guy alone.

@@chrissea77 Studying it for a while, I believe that is his real hair. I mean yeah, it looks bad on him this way, but pretty sure it's his. The dude is 70 years old, so if I were him, I'd definitely cut it. I'm 59, and back in the 70's I had very long hair too, but cut it far shorter in my 30's because it didn't look right any more. Andy is lucky in that he doesn't apparently suffer from male pattern baldness, and that's great, but he could still perform just fine with short hair. Each to his own though, and I'm just happy he's still alive, and I'd go see him live no matter what his hair looks like.

Those hung up on his hair .. may be also seeing his change with time .. getting older and not in shape both. Age is age, even if you take care of yourself. If a band member can have the hair they had when younger to maintain that rock image, I think its good to keep the rock image in an older version. Short hair and older just seems to be missing something and doesnt fit even more so. Fact is, we must get over it and just enjoy the music they gave us. And yes I enjoy them even more today. Im not sure what occurs in the brain, but its like some kinda high when I hear music from my youth that obviously played on the radio a lot .. most I wasnt in to .. Acid Rock as it was called then is what I was into most. Today, I enjoy nearly all forms of music, except rap or anything that invokes negativity.

I do believe the cardiac arrest story - my old man had 14 in one night before he died. Not every arrest has to be massive and fatal. SOmetimes people have lots of very small ones like a chain reaction. Brian must have already had a weak heart then. So had my father :o(

I would understand that if the biography was primarily about Andy, but it's about them as a band. It just seemed like they were mentioning Steve as an afterthought and that he was no longer part of the music industry, you know?

At the time Steve wasn't part of the music industry anymore. In 2008 he started his own band again but this was recorded before that.

Brian, he found prescribed excess mg diuretics would have a deleterious effect on organs. Kidney,liver, brain, lungs, heart, blood. You'd be in a quandry of why your body was not mysteriously same. And Brian was unaware of the over-prescribing until finally discovered. Damage to heart & kidneys prob. too late. I cracked up lol finishing quote here by Scott. Brian "amiable" around women. Great singles mostly written by Chinn and Chapman Album sales virtually none just came up short for me but they were the first band I ever saw Glasgow Apollo 1973 Seen T.rex same venue 8 months later and they were 10 times better
