I love the steel guitar it was as the signature instrument of country music for decades. In my opinion country music lost it's soul when it moved away from the steel guitar. When country music is played on a steel you hear the soul of the song crying out.
A good steel is supposed to make you cry, and yours does EVERY time....love it. wish there were more steel in country music now, but it's all went poppish, hsrdly a steel to be found, such a shame
Glad to hear some great steel playing, My brother in law "Dale Wagner" was a great one, we lost him in 2005, I'm glad I got to play with him for a few years, love the steel.
This was so beautiful I was looking for. Someone to play some music on a steel guitar but I didn't think it was going to be like this beautiful thank you so much you brighten up mine day love it so much
there is something about a crying steel guitar at the hands of a master that no other instrument can duplicate.simply beautiful!!----harold -from ontario canada
K I totally agree the country music today is really lacking Country needs a steel, country style piano and fiddle. All three or at least one of three listed instruments.
Just listened to "One of these days" from Pink Floyd... The potential of Steel Guitar is endless... Thank you sooo much for the music... Sooooo Country !!!
Oh, to be able to slow dance with my sweetie again..but he's been gone 23 yrs..thank you David for bringing back those memories, even if they sometimes hurt. Love you and what you do.
I’m so sorry for your loss. For me, hearing someone play a pedal steel guitar brings back memories of my dad playing his pedal steel guitar back in the late 70s. He could hear a song once and play along with the entire song. It was the most beautiful thing watching and hearing him play. My daddy’s been gone 21 years now, and these songs bring back the memories.
Beautiful. Dont ever take for granted your talent. 6 years ago, My brother a very well known musician that played a steel, electric guitar, bass, hominica, passed away of lue gharigs desease,. he's in Heaven now, but oh what I would give to hear him once again. But on the other hand where he is now, I would not bring him back to this awful world it has become.. Enjoy your gift God gave you while you have it. Always thank God for it. Im Thankful & blessed everyday for the talent I have as well. I play Organ, Piano, bass, accordian. Im #4 musician out of 18 in my family that all play by ear & we all play in church.
Henry Pulley; I'm with you 110% Sir. There's nothing like a fiddle and a steel guitar to make a good country song great. I ❤ me some good ol' steel guitar playing in any song but, especially country music. Thanks for sharing this video. Stan
Two years ago my wife died of brain tumors and one of our favorite songs is Sweet Memories. I clicked on it in RU-vid knowing how it would affect me. I got a box of tissues and made it thru it. Thank you David for recording this song. To Westland Adventures: I'm sure your Mom would understand it takes many years to play steel like David.
I have played this over and over and it never gets old. Simply fantastic. If you don't like old steel guitar music then you ain't country, simple as that! Go get in your pickup with your designer jeans on and your 6 pack of Busch light and just shut up and keep on driving till you find some more yuppies who don't know country from the hole in their asses then go find a place to do what yall do and leave us country folks to the real country music. But sadly that's where we are 2day.
Supposedly the young-uns didn't like the twang which is why we don't hear it much anymore. But I'm with you and wish the Good Lord had blessed me with the talent to play it as well. Guess when the two of us get to Heaven we can ask ol' St. Pete for pedal steels instead of harps.
I certainly agree with everyone's comment about the steel just belongs in TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC. No two ways about it. Thanks for uploading beautiful sounding Country Music.
I wonder what Dave Hartley is doing these days?.. I haven't seen any current videos. The Steel Guitar used to define Country Music. It is what set it apart. What a great thing we can come to RU-vid and enjoy it now. I can listen to Dave's steel guitar for hours.
Sweetest my choice most of the time I listen to steel guitar music which is mostly daily. My steel guitar-playing husband passed away this year and I sure miss them both. Just gorgeous
One of the most evocative pieces from the pedal-steel guitar, that I have heard…. So sensitively played…. No lyrics required!.. the sound says it all. It brings tears to my eyes every time… they’re flowing as I write. Thanks for this gem from your repertoire, David.. I love it.
I love that song. Love listening to Dave Hartley. I loved to listen to the pedal steel since I was a kid. Little did I know that our son would play a steel one day. He's good too. Another son is learning.
I literally ADORE this wonderful music 😊 ... I would listen to it for hours and hours and hours and never get tired ... All my deepest respect and my sincere congratulations, dear Friend, you really play the way only an Angel would ...
@@janicemullins4686 True we are just living. I was remembering the memories of my wife & me while I could not see or be with her since March 13, 2020 and our 49th anniversary was May 22, 2020. I got to see and be with her again on Nov 6, 2020 and she didn't seem to recognize me but on Nov 13, 2020 she did recognize me and for that I am very happy.
That is one gorgeous looking and sounding Sho-Bud, and you really breathe life into it! Keep up the fabulous work, Dave. This is what real music is all about.
One of the prettiest steel tunes I’ve ever heard. His “touch” has so much to do with that Wonderful tone. Thanks for recording this and sharing it with the world.
I can listen to hours of this, with great enjoyment, but only get into a minute of "new country" songs, ANY of them, and shut them OFF. Can't stand today's garbage. Thank you, the steel playing artists of the world!
David, my good friend, if I wasn't absolutely addicted to your steel picken' before, your rendition of this song has removed any doubts there might have been. David, you bring so much joy to so many ears. So much of the "Music" we hear today just leaves our ears bleeding. We owe you so much more than we will ever be able to pay you. You are such a generous man to share your sweet music with us. I believe I speak for everyone when I say thank you so much. Your Number One Fan, Sacramento Chuck
Davey my friend, I just can not get enough of this song. You most definitely hit it out of the park with this song. You truly are a master musician. It just don't get no better than a well played "crying steel guitar." That is when they sound their best. Your Cyber-Buddy, and biggest fan, Sacramento Chuck

As Ive stated before I’m awestruck at how well you know your way around a steel guitar! Something we haven’t seen in 30 years but your honestly one of the best I’ve ever heard never give up this passion of yours
SO BEAUTIFUL ..MY WIFE'S UNCLE, FRIKKIE CRONJE, ALSO WAS A GREAT HAWAIN GHITAAR PLAYER AND WAS FAMOUS AROUND THE WORLD. HE PASSED AWAY QUIT A LONG TIME AGO BUT I STILL CAN HEAR HISRE .CORDINGS. YOU ARE BLESSED MY FRIEND AND KEEP ON PLAYING.
Cerre mis ojos para escuchar esta hermosa melodia que calma el corazon..... a los pocos segundos ya me estaban corriendo lagrimas. Que don tan maravilloso. Dios lo bendiga.
The "cleanest" and one of, if not the finest pedal steel players of all time!! It's been nearly 5 years now... since you "upped and walked away", Dave.... "Where" Are You? I know you're still among the breathing.... would have been nice, if you would have at least put out a short video to "say good-bye" to all your many thousands of fans around the world.
yes sir, thats some buckle polishing music right there, used to hit the VFW on Friday nights and dance the night away was a blast. Sure miss those days.
David, I just keep coming back to this song. You have such a gentle touch on the steel. You have set the bar pretty high for yourself this time. Don't know if you are going to be able to top this one. What a beautiful sound you get out of your Rains. Such beautiful music. Sacramento Chuck
