In this video we will be harvesting sweet potatoes for the very first time! I am so very excited to do this harvest because you never know what you're gonna get when you harvest a root crop- It's like opening a Christmas present!
I really hope that this video motivates you to GET UP AND GET GROWING. Anyone can grow sweet potatoes like this no matter where you live.
If you know someone who would be interested in growing more organic, healthy food for themselves and their family you can share this video with them.

WOW!!!!! Can't believe you get that much sweet potatoes from such a small space. Great idea using the old fridge👍. I have never seen a gardener make planting & harvesting look very simple a lot of fun instead of work lol.

The sweet potatoes are ready by the end of 3 months. I leave them closer to 4-5 months until I see the leaves turning yellow because they get bigger. You have to be careful however, once it's 5 months and over there can be worms trying to eat the sweet potatoes if the land is too moist.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. How did you know it was harvesting time? I planted some in August and I'm not sure when I should go on my own treasure hunt 🤔
@thetrinigardener4712
@thetrinigardener4712 2 года назад
Sounds like you are ready to go hunting! The traditional rule is to look for lower leaves to start drying up and dying. This can be kinda tricky however because the top canopy with newer leaves always looks green so you have to poke through to see what's going on at soil level. My recommendation is just give it 4 months! 120 days and you are gonna be good to go! Tag us on IG when you get your harvest we would love to see! Keep growing! 🌱

Hey thank you for sharing. Where can I get sweet potato vine?
@thetrinigardener4712
@thetrinigardener4712 2 года назад
Hi you can ask your local sweet potato vendor and they would usually help you out. Or you can ask at an agro shop and they may help as well. You just need a small amount and you'll have an endless supply.

Using loose soil would have made harvesting much easier oooh! so much digging.
@thetrinigardener4712
@thetrinigardener4712 2 года назад
You are very correct! This was the leftover soil I had available. I used all the 'loose' soil for my more 'high maintenance' crops (peppers, tomatoes etc.).

Great harvest but you need to improve how to use the fork. You could go with gloves and you could have made less damage.

I a lot of things I tried to grow was failures, well all were. Tomato, squash, cucumbers, bulbing onion, lettuce, bell peppers all started from seed died early never germinated or died right be for I could pick the produce or pest infected, I know a lot more now I saw someone from my country doing in on a small scale so I trying again still all from seed cause it is what I have. The only success I have is with seasoning

The sweet potato I bought in d grocery was on my counter forever...I saw it started sprouting....so I rooted it and stuck it in a pot ro see what happens.....how long do I have to leave it? 120days?
@thetrinigardener4712
@thetrinigardener4712 2 года назад
Yes that's a good time to leave it but as it grows into the container you can cut off pieces of the stem and stick in anywhere around your house that has soil, even if it is not the best soil and it will grow and keep sprouting and it will all give you sweet potatoes in 4-5 months!
