Our first time to a caravan site as complete newbies to the Swift Base Camp 2 and to caravanning. I commit a multitude of sins!!!! Easy mistakes which I hope is common to all first timers! We had a superb weekend at Plas Farm caravan site near Abergele in North Wales. I hope this video is useful to potential Base Camp owners and newbies alike.

love the honesty. We've all do it. I've done the same with the motor mover. I've also left the break away cable attached to the car, so when I pull the car away from the caravan, I snapped the cable.

I’ve not done the brake cable yet😂

Absolutely love the Basecamp, just too small for us. Regarding trying to move with motor over still attached - hands up, I did the same thing 😆

I’ve forgotten to disconnect the mm too once never again ☺️ and a tip for the toilet open blades and flush once before and once after. Well done 👍🏼 Welcome to the Basecamp team ☺️🙌

Thanks for the tips and for your comment. We’ve owned the base camp for six months now and been away in it seven times so I’ve pretty much mastered it!

We've just taken delivery of our new 2021 BC 2 and our only experience so far is towing it the 12 miles or so home. We're experienced campers - cycle camping, then an old Autosleeper Duetto - but this is our first caravan. I've towed racing dinghies and motorcycle trailers but they're both lighter and narrower than even the BC 2 so I'm a bit nervous and reluctantly avoiding the lanes we love in favour of main(ish) roads. We're both in our 80s so a motor mover has been a godsend - as I fly RC aeroplanes I found its operation quite familiar! It's ideal for us as we were (mostly) using our campervan for cycling or model flying trips, so having the extra space in the car will be great. Hoping to use it through the winter, weather permitting. Thanks for confessing to a few errors we hope to avoid :) I'm just about up to speed on how to 'drive' the accommodation features.

Congratulations on your purchase. You will absolutely love it. The first two or three times you take it out it the Base Camp will feel a lot to do but it soon comes second nature as you get into the routine. From my experience be sure to familiarise yourself with all the manuals. 90% of the issues will be user error as I found out the hard way😂. I’m finding towing the Base Camp a beeeze now and I even reversed it on to the pitch on the last two trips out! Happy adventures.

Good morning. That must have been an awesome trip? I know some viewers are probably hating on that motor mover. But it's the best decision you can make if you're newbie. As a viewer you'reprobably wondering why a motor mover is needed on such a small caravan? Well smaller caravans and trailers are a bigger hassle to do alley docking or reverse!

Nice vid! Similar house to yours... and I motor move my van onto the street - then attach. A lot easier if street busy.

The motor mover is a life saver. Now I’ve pulled that van off the drive and I can see it’s track from the GoPro footage I’m comfy in towing it off, don’t know what I do about getting it back on without the mover!

This caravan looks like a great buy as mainly a solo traveller I would remove the first 3/4 of the seating on the left side ans have the table in place of that or folded up tied up. It would open slot of liveable space on that side.

That was great, only thing that surprised me was the fuel consumption almost doubling, don’t know what i was expecting really, 25% probably
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales 3 года назад
Yes it it surprising but also essential to know. Another way of looking at it is my car on average runs at 11p per mile. With the Base Camp on the back it’s running at 20p per mile. This knowledge really helps me plan my trips.

Easy to make mistakes.... Returning from The Lakes (& it wasn't the 'maiden journey ' either) and the caravan to car hook up cable must have not been fastened up enough allowing it to had drop down onto the M6. Result - it has partly worn through ! I have made a temporary repair with insulation tape to get it into the caravan workshop in a few weeks time...😔

Brillant video, we also have a BC2 and love it!!. Did a similar thing with the Jockey wheel and managed to damage the A frame. OPPS. Can ask were you got your bin?

well done Nick. Lovely gentle video. Makes me want one. How much are they
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales 3 года назад
Thanks Nick! If you go down the brand new route they are eye watering expensive being over £20K and way beyond what we could ever afford. Going down the used route like we did and with a bit of luck you would save a fortune on the new price.

Thanks Dave. The Westfield 200 is my go to awning for hiking trips. I take bigger awnings when my wife is with me. Check out eBay as the Westfield’s can be picked up for around £200. Bargain.

Try to pull off with the motor mover still wound on, Tick done it. Dropped the BC on its A frame? tick done it. Pull off with ]out connecting electrics? nope not done that - You should know because you wont get the "trailer attached" message on the beemer. Some mistakes you will make? You will at some time, fill up your aquaroll, and turn on your pump, and then dump all your water out the bottom because you didnt close the drain cock. You will at some stage unhitch and pull away and break the breakaway cable co you didnt take it off. Tow my BC behind my BMW G31 540i. 18 mpg! Yikes
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales 3 года назад
Thanks for those forthcoming mistakes! Good tips. Very low MPG on your BMW?
