I started swimming last month i can now freestyle but if I stop kicking in deep water I sink like a rock, I can't wait to learn how to float

Congrats on your skill thus far Miebi. I wish you equal speed in learning to be comfortable in the deep end. The next sinkers video should be fun for you as it speaks directly to ‘sinks like a rock’. I believe it’s due in out in the next week.

We were so happy to do this series. It’s something I’d wanted to do for a while. I don’t think sinkers are believed in most beginner classes and many coaches don’t know how to teach sinkers. Stay tuned. We have more sinker info coming across the next couple of months.

Good job coach I'll take a class from you any day. Because of your demonstration. I don't think I'll be scared.

Hi, I have watched all the videos for Swim Lessons for SINKERS and practiced too to learn the differences. What should be my next lesson as a proud sinker😂

Hi @electronicseternity. Apologies for missing your comment. We're about to film the next part of the series, but I'll give you a preview of sorts. The next thing we do is build on the propulsion. We demonstrated pulls in the last videos. Now we use the pulls to pull us down from the surface and then to pull back up to the surface for air. Ideally we do that in a somewhat floating position - think about the pattern a dolphin makes coming up and going down. We also start working on sculling and kicks for additional propulsion and to keep feet higher in the water. There are a lot of good RU-vid videos on both (though most are from a floaters perspective). The kicks and sculling usually take some time. We also use the pulling as we practice 'bobs' in the water - blowing out a little as we go under the water and breathing in at the surface. It's similar to the video in the beginners series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RkMXHicYP4c.html ... once you get the feel for the push upward, then we start sitting on the bottom in shallow water (or floating just below the surface) and pulling up from there, playing with full breath vs. partial breath and noting the differences. Hope to have some new videos out soon.

Hi Renee. If you're ever near Fort Worth, Tx, come see us. We'd be glad to welcome you. If not, there are good teachers across the country. Call around and ask if they teach adults and how many adults they have and ask them to describe their philosophy or process when teaching adult beginners. Teaching adults is different than teaching kids and it's nice to find someone who understands that and can teach accordingly.

😔This is painful to watch. I'm an early 50' year old SINKER and I've failed miserably at some rights of passage.. I cannot ride a bicycle 🚲, I cannot swim, I almost drowned at 8yrs old. I feel so jealous (not envious) when I see others ride a bicycle, and swim. Alas, it's too late in life for me to learn either of those useful life skills 🙄.💐

Hi Junelilyrose, FWIW, We have people in 50s and 60s learning all the time in our classes. We have a few in their 70s. It’s definitely NOT too late to learn to swim. 😊

Hi Junelily rose, I am sure you can. I was also almost drown at 12. I tried learning swimming at 13, then 19 then 30. It was not successful at all because I still had the fear of water. So during Covid and that was at the age of 64, I decided to learn swimming again and of course I did watch a lot of RU-vid and also with a very patient teacher, I am now able to swim. Now I am 66 and I can swim 10 laps without stopping in the deep pool and I did that 3-4 times every week. So I am sure you can if you try.

@@junelilyrose3396. I wish you great success in you endeavour. I recommend you call before you sign up for a class and ask the school if they have a program to work with sinkers. If they don’t have an answer, call around. Also consider Melon Dash’s book, Conquer your Fear of Water. It’s excellent for ‘talking’ scared beginners through the process.
