Dirty contacts on that switch is that a common occurrence with switch contacts when your at sea I think we use to put a little Vaseline on them to stop that. I remember some years back down on west palm beach, Florida a barracuda took a chop out of ankle because she was wearing a shiny ankle bracelet. I wouldn't wear any jewelry while swimming that's for sure. I read barracuda can see shiny objects like rings and necklaces from 2 miles away. No BS. They are quick to hit shiny fishing lures.
That's not ideal. I've since learned that bare feet can be attractive too. There was a bite in a marina recently while someone was cleaning their hull. Apparently the feet were just too tempting.
The whole dive was incredible Derek. We have lots more footage but didn't want to over do it. Maybe we should put out an extra for patrons with the raw footage?

I saw 2 1/2 meter barracuda swimming around our fishing charter boat once. A fellow was realing in a king fish (nice size). the barracuda never broke stride as it bit the king fish in half. One more thing in the ocean to keep me out of it. Love your videos keep up the great work. Tell Ivan a fish going to see him skiiny diving and grab a snack.

And getting himself out of a fix with a $5 magnetic doodaa, or whatever he called it. I need to do some DIY myself and find where my fresh water pipe is leaking into the bilge under pressure. It has eluded me so far!
Your brother may take a dim view or he may be honoured. To find the leak to save time suggest you go directly to the most hard to get to part of the boat where the pipe leads.
great video beautiful waters off of Thailand. I was in Thailand 4 years ago and I noticed a lot of shady marine park officers saying you had to have ticket or pay them when absolutely there was not at all a charge. Luckily one of the friends of a friend on our boat was a Thai Police officer all was sorted. But yeah if they can get money from the tourist who doesn't. know any better that's easy money for them 1500 Baht per person when I was there . Varies I gather depending on location. Safe sail have fun.

The spectra line is because the previous owner used it on a top-down furler. Get yourself the top swivel and bottom continuous line furler and enjoy being able to set and strike the spinnaker singlehanded. Make the tack line at the bow adjustable to flatten or curve the leading edge for wind angle. Love my spanker!
A suggestion for your spinnaker. "Doc or Doctor or The Doctor." Named after one of our fellow NZrs Dr David Lewis. He sailed around the world in his catamaran Rehu Moana. There's various meanings for Rehu as a verb and a noun. Moana of course is ocean. Rehu as a noun...means flute. Dr Lewis also was taught how to navigate using stars and the direction of the waves. Ironically he left "ICEBIRD" down at Palmer Peninsula Antarctica, and hitched a ride to the islands where he learned that skill of navigation. Plus D.R dead reckoning..so he was a very clever fellow. Sorry theres about three different subjects related to one skilled old seadog in that comment. Hopefully "The Doctor " will help you C.Ks navigate your way to further adventures. Cheers guys. But sadly I can't make use of his name for the spinnaker. It doesn't suit. Btw I have seen Sheila 2 in Wellington years ago. Thank you again for the upload.
Glad to see that Rob is a better magnet fisher than a real fisherman. 😉 My thoughts about the new spinnaker: great deal and hope it wil last you for a long time. She may look not be so vibrant and colorful as Miss Robina but it matches the colours of the Bimini, lazy bag and the stripes on the hulls. And it seems very sturdy and well made. Since your autopilot is named Bob(I believe?) I would give it a female name like Miss Bea or Miss Beatrix to keep the balance of hormones between them. Mr. Bob and Miss Bea(trix) doing their job. Haha… Here’s what I found regarding the meaning of that name: “Bea. For girls’ names beginning with B, Bea is a short name that would make a great middle name. Although found throughout Europe, it’s both an English and Hungarian name, short for Beatrix and Beáta, respectively. Beatrix means “voyager, traveler” and Beáta means “blessed”. Very cool episode. I have never been scuba diving but it is something I want to eventually do. Though I live near Boston and our water is a bit cold for that, but maybe one day when I'm on vacation somewhere warm! I was sad you didn't get to swim in that one spot, it looked great. I thought it was odd that they wouldn't sell you a ticket on the spot. But it's their country, so their rules. It was a lovely view though.

Oh yes, get a tube of dielectric grease next time you are in the hardware store, works the trick for keeping those connections from corroding.

@@bernardels92 might have been more concerning for Ivan had barracuda been around as are known to be attracted to dangling objects. We've not experienced that before. Seems to be a thing in this region only.

I loved the clear water! I use to swim with barracuda in the Caribbean all the time but was never molested or bothered by them. This brings a question, do they have a ciguatera problem in Thailand? One had to be very careful in the Caribbean when eating barracuda.
I think shiny objects or dangly bits (Ivan was risking it!) Are a temptation. Fiji seemed to be OK but i think at certain times of the year so maybe the same for Thailand, not sure. The locals do eat it though.
@@TheCruisingKiwis I have attended nude resorts for most of my life, you start to hate wearing clothes after a while. Wearing clothing to swim seems just plain stupid to me at this point.
Nice dive Ivan and yes, no fins was more impressive. That may be why the baracuda left you alone. Baracuda talking: hey ralph, what's that? Well George, it is a human attempting to swim like us. Maybe someone should tell him that even we use a rear fin! Hey, you guys wanna mess him up some? Nah!! He has no fin already, probably got bitten off or something and looks like he is struggling to git back up for air**!!! Just let him through.. Okay guys? Yea..... okay with us...... dopy human, no fin and no scales. Hey, i heard this guy has a fin but for some reason it is not with him. Hydrogen peroxide should never be used to treat wounds as it does more harm than good. In fact, no antiseptic should be used to treat wounds. While highly reactive chemical agents such as hydrogen peroxide do indeed kill some bacteria, they do more damage to healthy cells that are attempting to heal the wound. good antibiotic cream. Followed by Gauze pads. Then use an elastic bandage to wrap and hold the Gauze in place. Sorry the boys have been hurt! Ouch
Yeah they might see us as tucka but in reality sharks etc leave us alone. We've swum with many including Tiger sharks with no problem. Avoid when feeding🙂
When I was about 10 or 11 I had a freak accident caused by an old rickety bicycle I had. I somehow managed to get the tip of my very sensitive private organ pinched between the bike frame and handlebars. At that time I was at the age where I no longer wanted my mother to see me sans clothing. I was raised in a family that was fairly conservative when it came to nudity, but I was in so much pain that I had no choice but to tell her what had happened and let her survey and address the damage. Any shame I had about her seeing me went out the window. It was at that point that I realized that mothers aren’t fazed by that sort of thing. Their kids are always their kids no matter how old they are. All my mother cared about that day was making sure I was okay.

@@talkshitko9234 most, if not all, sailing RU-vidrs will do the same. They then have to wade through the thousands of songs to find what fits. It can be time consuming so I guess some spend less time on it than others.
