As our team members were busy coping with school work during the semester and some of us are not currently living in Melbourne, we were not able to do any filming for the last couple of months ... We have, however, created an instagram and Facebook account for Kuma bear, and will share what life is like in Melbourne ... or at Swinburne ... for example. The following link should take you to the page about arrival of international student to Melbourne. www.swinburne.edu.au/life-at-swinburne/international-students/return-to-melbourne/ And it will be better if you have sorted out where to stay, and we personally recommend the on campus accommodations ^^ Oh and make sure you enrol into your units on the student portal and register your classes on the timetable page ... yes ... have to register the classes, may want to do that after enrolling into the units so you get to choose when do you want to have certain classes as they may provide the same class on multiple time slot ... Please have a chat with the staffs at the student HQ if there is any problem. (Online chat is available during office hours) The school has a peer mentoring program, and mentors (current students at the school) will help you with transitioning into uni. And we will be posting on Kuma bear's instagram and Facebook account if there are interesting things happening. Great video! What would you guys say about the number of students on campus? A friend tells me that Swinburne has a lot of students relative to the campus size resulting in a lot of students in a small space but I don't think that's quite true. Of course there would be fewer students now due to covid but how was it pre-covid? An insight would be great!
Thank you !! Yeah, we do have lots of students, and we tend to stay in study spaces located in the library or close to where we have classes. And those areas are usually packed with students. You can book a study room in the library via the school website or use other study spaces, such as the one in AGSE building. There are lots of small common area with chairs/sofa scattered around the campus as well. If you are living on campus, you can use the common areas in the on campus residential buildings. So you should always be able to find a place to hang out with friends or to study by yourself, do recommend bringing a headphone tho ... As for the classes (pre-covid), For year 1, which students from the same department or faculty have same units, we have larger size lectures with 100 to 200 students, as for tutorials, we usually have 10 to 30 students, the size of the class may be larger if it involves group project. From year 2 onwards, as students have units that focus on their majors, the size of the lectures and tutorials are way smaller, there will still be lectures, such as maths for engineering students, with many people. The size of the classes sometimes depends on the time as well, like afternoon and evening classes may have more students compared to the early morning one. Hope that answer your question. And Sarawak campus in Malaysia. Certainly, my owner and our friends made the video during the lockdown in Melbourne and students were having online classes, some international students or students from other states cannot travel to Victoria and were not able to join the campus tour before the start of the academic year. The video aims to show them what was it like at school. Glad to know that things are getting back to normal. 🐻🐻
We would have suggested the on campus accommodations as they are so closed to all the teaching spaces and there are activities organised by the RA team. But a two bedroom apartment sounds like a spacious and nice environment to stay in. 🐻🐻
