Its honestly amazing how much of an instinct Hikaru has for the position - its like his brain is the eval bar lol

I was at about 1200 (for like 10 years), then I started watching Mr. Hikaru, doing puzzles and occasionally playing games against bots. I rarely I play but watch chess a lot and do puzzles a lot (highest ever puzzle rating of 2600). In about a year or two I went from 1200 to beating bots up to 1900 rating. The key is not necessarily playing tons of chess, it’s playing/watching good chess. Doesn’t help to practice being bad, but it does help practicing and observing and understanding good play.

Been playing less then a year only have like 1 hour a day to play if that and I went from 100 to 1330 and still going. Obviously 1330 isn’t anything to write home about but from where I was when I started I think it’s okay

I feel like Magnus not taking the title Tuesday seriously, with a cash prize and no real implications on chess skills, is okay. He is the best player in the world. He treats title Tuesday like a brain exercise. I do not see that as an issue. The only messed up thing is that he may be taking away from someone else winning but he is playing in a way that allows for him to lose if other players can contest him. Also he has been known to be a troll his whole career, when you are as good as he is you get to be. IG he could stay humble out of respect to the game and tournament but if he actually tried it would just make it harder for other players that could use the money to benefit. However, $1000 is not changing these players lives anyways. Nice for some of the kids that participate though.
