Here from 1923 is "Swingin' Down the Lane" (Lyrics by Gus Kahn & Music by Isham Jones), sung by William West (Bill Jones) on an original Cameo Record. The Talking Machine is a Victor Type II with a black & brass horn. Also in use here, is a Victor Fiber Needle, which gives this selection a more mellow, less overpowering tone. The Cameo Record Company began record production in 1922. It was the store label for Macy's Dept. Store in New York. Macy's dropped the label in 1925. In 1928 Cameo merged with the Pathe Record Co.and a year later this new firm was one of the founding partners of the American Record Corporation.
