Pushing down on the handle, you should be able to move the grey piece of plastic back and fourth - the one with a lock and unlock symbol on it. The whole plastic piece should move.

There is a lock in the back that you move to the side to open or lock. It’s the plastic on the back in the middle.

Steph F I’m having the same problem, the lock moves but it doesn’t actually lock the slide. I’ve tried forcing it but it just won’t move to lock and I literally bought it yesterday from staples.
